Vessels leaving port Storyline A young entrepreneur from Taiwan, running her own business in east China's Sanming City, Fujian Province, has called on more youth from the island to carve out their futures in the mainland where more preferential policies and supportive platforms have been rolled out. Cheng I-yun, who started her workshop in Yanqian Village in Sanming, graduated from a university in Taipei. Her workshop in Yanqian Village is often packed with young colleagues and drafts, with their discussions usually focusing on designing plans for revitalizing local rural areas. Cheng said her bonds with the mainland started from a summer holiday training camp held two years ago in Sanming. As one of the beneficiaries of local supportive policies, Cheng called on more youth from Taiwan to experience the mainland for themselves. "What I want to say to youth from Taiwan is that if you have the chance, do come and visit the mainland, because there are a lot of preferential policies and supportive platforms. Whether you come to start a business, seek employment or travel, you will discover a lot of new things. If you choose to work here, you'll find more opportunities and room for development across a wide range of fields. This could become a 'blue ocean' for you," said Cheng. Official data showed that Fujian received 1.042 million visits by compatriots from Taiwan in 2025, a significant rise from 573,000 in 2023. In April this year, the mainland rolled out a package of 10 policies and measures to boost exchanges and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait, covering areas such as economic and trade cooperation, transportation and tourism, people's livelihood and infrastructure development, culture, film and television, as well as youth exchanges. "Going forward, Fujian will collaborate with relevant authorities to incorporate issues concerning the livelihoods, economy, and exchanges that matter to compatriots and enterprises in Taiwan into the development framework of the cross-Strait integrated development demonstration zone. The province will ensure seamless follow-up and coordination, continue to advance pilot policies, and steadily enhance the sense of gain for compatriots and enterprises in Taiwan," said Chen Zhiyong, deputy director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of Fujian.
