Meloni said the current friendship agreement between the two countries dates to 1991, after a meeting at the Palazzo Chigi. She said Rome and Warsaw would begin consultations on updating cooperation between the two countries. The talks focused on cooperation within the EU, competitiveness and migration, she said. “Poland is on the front line in defending the European Union’s external borders against illegal immigration,” said Meloni. “In this case, we can also say immigration is being used instrumentally.” She also thanked Warsaw for its role in protecting the EU’s eastern frontier and for showing solidarity with refugees from Ukraine.
