The plane carrying the pope landed in the Spanish capital, where Spanish and Vatican flags were displayed as preparations were made for an official welcome. Pope Leo XIV was welcomed at the airport by Spain’s King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia before greeting officials on the tarmac. The visit, which runs through June 12, will include stops in Madrid, Barcelona, and the Canary Islands, where the pope is scheduled to meet migrants and organizations working on migration and integration issues.
