The Genoa G8 summit is globally notorious as one of the darkest chapters in European democratic history. The reputation stems from a massive and violent crackdown on protesters by law enforcement. During the historical clashes, officers beat people, committed acts of abuse and torture, and shot activist Carlo Giuliani dead after a Carabinieri officer fired the fatal shot.
