Demonstrators gathered in the city center and covered themselves in red paint to symbolize the blood of the animals killed during the traditional festivities. The participants held large banners reading "Enough torture, no more bullfighting" to demand an immediate end to the annual running of the bulls and subsequent arena fights. In a separate demonstration near the city's bullring, a group of Spanish journalists gathered to honor media workers killed during Israeli attacks in Gaza. The journalists placed symbolic press badges and photographs of their deceased colleagues at the base of the Ernest Hemingway Monument. The crowd chanted slogans demanding protection for the press and called for an end to the violence against journalists in conflict zones.
