VARIOUS OF SHOES ON GROUNDTHE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS - AUG. 1, 2026: Thousands of pairs of children's shoes were placed on Scheveningen Beach in The Hague on Saturday, Aug. 1, to commemorate children killed in Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip. The installation, staged near the Kurhaus building, aimed to highlight the humanitarian impact of the war by covering part of the beach with shoes symbolizing the lives lost. Participants gathered throughout the day to pay tribute to the victims and express solidarity with the Palestinian people. Israeli violations of the ceasefire since last October have killed 1,222 Palestinians and injured another 4,053, according to figures from Gaza’s Health Ministry. Since Israel launched its war on Gaza in October 2023, it has killed more than 73,000 Palestinians and injured over 174,000. The offensive has also destroyed around 90% of the enclave’s civilian infrastructure.
