Storyline Smart technology transforms cattle farming in China As part of its current 15th Five-Year Plan for national development, China is working to stabilize its beef cattle production capacity with smart technology. This is a digital 5G ranch in east China's Shandong Province that uses an AI-based system to manage its cattle. Sun Binghui, head, cattle farm: "Now the cattle wear electric ear tags and smart collars to monitor their health in real time. We have fully automated cattle feeding system. There are more than 5,000 cattle on the farm but only three staff members." Experts say that the upcoming National Day and fourth quarter, typically peak beef consumption seasons, are expected to push up demand, as well as prices. Shao Qiaoqiao, analyst: "During the peak consumption season, demand for beef typically increases by about 5 percent. Beef prices are expected to remain high until 2027." Data shows that in the first half of the year, China's total beef production was around 3.3 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of about 40,000 tons. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
