Storyline China's economy remains stable as new growth drivers gain momentum China’s National Bureau of Statistics says the country’s economy remained generally stable in August, with new growth drivers gaining momentum and the economic structure continuing to improve. Officials told the media on Tuesday that industrial production grew at a faster pace, with equipment and high-tech manufacturing expanding rapidly. They also highlighted rapid growth in foreign trade, stable employment and a moderate rise in consumer prices. Fu Linghui, Chief Economist, Spokesperson, National Bureau of Statistics: "China’s economy in August was marked by stability in production, employment and prices, along with rapid growth in emerging industries and foreign trade. Consumer prices rose by 0.8 percent year on year, while industrial producer prices increased by 3.8 percent. Output in high-tech manufacturing and digital product manufacturing grew by 16.7 percent and 15.7 percent respectively. Overall, new growth drivers accounted for more than 60 percent of the growth in industrial output. China’s total goods imports and exports rose by 19.8 percent. Exports of green products, including new energy vehicles and lithium batteries, grew rapidly, while imports from developing economies across ASEAN, Africa and Latin America also increased sharply."
