Aerial shots of city view Storyline China aims to achieve steady growth in the scale of its new-type battery industry by 2030, according to a development plan jointly issued by seven government departments on Monday. The newly released plan outlines key targets for the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030). By 2030, the plan aims to significantly strengthen innovation capacity across the entire industry chain. Breakthroughs are expected in advanced electrode materials and new electrolytes, while research on next-generation battery systems will make major progress. All-solid-state batteries will begin large-scale application, and long-life lithium batteries will achieve a cycle life of 15,000 cycles. The plan also calls for deeper integration of new-type battery technologies with clean energy and end-use applications. These batteries will support upgrades to smart devices and accelerate electrification in automobiles, ships, aviation, and intelligent robots, contributing to green and low-carbon development worldwide. New-type batteries refer to high-efficiency energy storage and conversion devices or systems built on innovations in mechanisms, materials, structures and manufacturing processes. Represented by lithium batteries, sodium-ion batteries and flow batteries, they feature rapid technological iteration, broad applications and strong industry-wide impact.
