Storyline China ramps up auto testing to back carmakers' overseas push China is accelerating its auto testing and validation systems to support its global expansion and meet rigorous international standards. At the China Automotive Technology and Research Center, emission labs now cover the Euro 7 tests-the European Union's emission standards. The CATARC has built an overseas technical service platform that covers standards in Europe, the United States, Japan, and many other markets. Li Haibin, general manager of CATARC Tianjin Automotive Test Center: "We study auto regulations and certification systems in key markets such as Europe, North America, South America, Japan, South Korea, and the Middle East. We help export models meet strict overseas environmental standards and support high-quality Chinese cars going global." At the China Merchants Testing Vehicle Technology Research Institute in Chongqing, meanwhile, tests on smart cockpits are carried out around the clock. Wang Zhijie, director of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology: "Smart cars need more than large models and computing power. We must also strengthen testing, standards, and safety. We are linking these parts so automotive AI is verifiable, practical, and safer." And regarding auto safety, the CATARC is localizing some of its core test equipment, like, crash test dummies. The global auto market has long been dominated by foreign made dummies based on European and American body types, while the CATARC’s new crash test dummies are based on Chinese body data.
