Storyline Zero-tariff policy drives China-Africa trade Since the zero-tariff trade deal between China and 53 African nations started on May first, dozens of shipments of fresh produce have been received at the Beijing Capital Airport. Items like fresh rock lobsters from South Africa. The general manager of a Beijing-based supply chain management company says imports have gone up sharply since the trade policy was enacted. Dai Yunyun, general manager, Beijing-based supply chain management firm: "Since May 1, our company has imported roughly 15 tons, an increase of about 50 percent compared with the same period last year." To support the zero-tariff policy, customs authorities have worked to introduce more streamlined clearance services. Tong Shubo, deputy director, inspection division, Beijing Capital Airport Customs: "Our recent inspections of African imports are mainly fresh products, flowers, and other perishable goods. To lock in freshness, we operate on an inspect-upon-arrival, examine-and-release model, ensuring smooth processing and fast clearance for preferential products." According to the General Administration of Customs, two-way trade between China and its 53 African diplomatic partners reached an all-time high last year of more than 348 billion U.S. dollars.
