Storyline Fourth China International Supply Chain Expo opens in Beijing Guests from 85 countries, regions and international organizations are attending this years’ China International Supply Chain Expo, and one message stood out from the opening ceremony-- the importance of having global cooperation for stable supply chains. Ding Xuexiang, Chinese Vice Premier: "Global supply chains, industrial chains and value chains are closely interconnected. Every country is a link in the chain of cooperation. Keeping global industrial and supply chains stable and unimpeded requires the joint efforts of all parties." Paul Mashatile, Deputy President of South Africa: "As we shape the future of global supply chains, we must ensure that our partnership remain inclusive and sustainable." According to a report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, global trade has remained resilient this year. But the report also warns that escalating geopolitical tensions continue to test that momentum. Against this backdrop, Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang says China will continue be the protector and constructor of global supply chains. Ding Xuexiang, Chinese Vice Premier: "On the supply side, we provide high-quality products made and created in China. In promoting cooperation, we have steadily advanced high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. And in the face of external challenges, regardless of how the international landscape evolves, we remain committed to connectivity rather than decoupling or disrupting industrial and supply chains." Over 600 companies and institutions are taking part in this year’s Expo in Beijing. Some are not only seeking new business opportunities, but also looking to deepen long-term ties with China. Among them are companies from Japan-at a time when political relations between the two countries grow increasingly complex. Masayoshi Matsumoto, Chairman, Kansai Economic Federation/Chairman and CEO, Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd.: "The Kansai business community and China are closely connected and cannot be separated. Given the scale of business between us, I feel the current situation is somewhat concerning. That is why I wanted to use the Supply Chain Expo to convey the message that we should continue strengthening business ties between Kansai and China. There have been many problems between China and Japan in the past. Yet the two countries have always managed to overcome them." [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
