Welcome to all things mobile and our live coverage of made by Google
0:10
I'm Ayaz Akhtar with PCMag and I'll be joined by my colleagues Andrew Gebhardt and Nabar Al-Heady
0:18
But this is one unusual situation. Google's officially launched the Pixel 11 series, but tonight the company is holding a live event hosted by Trevor Noah
0:27
Now, we're all hoping there's something Google held back to justify such an event, but we'll
0:32
see, right? I also want to introduce our producer running all the things behind the scenes, Steven Beacham
0:36
Let him know what's going on. Hey guys. Thank you for watching
0:40
We are live across brands. We're live on CNET, PCMag, Mashable, ZDNet, and Lifehacker
0:47
But we want to know what you're thinking about this event. If you have any questions or comments, please leave it in our YouTube chat and our producer
0:54
Vidisha will get it on the show. And that's about it. I'm here producing the show. Back to you guys. I'm excited for Google, made by Google
1:04
Yeah, we also have live blogs at CNET and PCMag. And here's the deal. You're watching our pre-show
1:10
We're going to discuss our opinions and all the stuff that was announced, the pixels, the Pixel Watch, the Google Pixel Tag
1:16
and of course, the most important device, the Olive Google Buds Pro 2
1:20
Then we'll run Google's show right here. You don't need to go anywhere. You can just keep that tab open
1:24
And after that, we'll be back to break down everything Google and Trevor Noah presented
1:29
So we've got Andrew Gebhardt. I've got to ask him some questions
1:34
I've got a Brar. Elhidi, I've got to ask him some questions. Let's start with a Brar because you've gotten to play with the Google Pixel 11 series already
1:41
And there's plenty of videos about that. What is your impression of the Pixel 11 series
1:46
And what do you think Google's trying to do with them? So I casually have all the phones laid out in front of me just for fun
1:52
I first want to start out with how beautiful this pink color is. I just think this is the most important thing we are going to talk about today
1:59
Sorry, hibiscus. Exactly. That's what Barbie would call it. So it's very fluorescent
2:04
I think I didn't expect how pink it would be, but it's gorgeous. But I'm a foldables person
2:10
I really like foldables. And so I'm excited to play with the 11 Pro Fold and see how different it may or may not
2:18
be from the 10. I mean, all of these phones just look pretty similar to last year's phones
2:23
There's nothing particularly startling about the design. It's what's on the inside that counts, right
2:29
That's what they always say. So we're going to find out as we continue to test all of these phones how that all goes
2:35
But, you know, they're always going to tout the AI features these days
2:39
And so I got to play with some of the AI features. Magic Capture was a really fun one
2:44
Basically, holding up your phone, it records everything and then decides when to take a snapshot
2:48
so you don't have to be like should I take a picture now should I take a video you just roll
2:52
and it'll find the best moments um so I look forward to playing with that rambler if you
2:56
like voice to text but you feel like you ramble too much it'll fix that problem for you all those
3:00
little things but the creepiest thing and honestly you should go back and watch this video of mine
3:04
just to hear what I sound like if I were a fluent Spanish speaker which I am not but I wish I were
3:09
um you can translate any YouTube video in real time you'll get those real-time dubbed
3:14
translations and it's amusing if nothing else. Yeah, I did watch that. You do speak very quickly in Spanish
3:21
I don't think you speak that quickly in English. But thank you. I had an existential crisis. Yeah
3:28
Andrew, you use a Pixel daily like you're a person who has chosen to have a pixel
3:33
as your daily driver. OK, with all the Pixel 11 news, what do you think of these phones
3:38
Are you like just jumping to upgrade or are you just like, hey, big whoop
3:44
I think some of these features seem genuinely cool. The fact that you can get those stills out of the magic capture in there, the Rambler feature that you can talk and stumble and it'll magically translate that and make it seem coherent
4:05
I also want to note just how much Abrar struggled to actually stumble
4:15
She's so coherent all the time that when she was using Rambler, it was terrific because it was like, wait, how exactly do I stumble here
4:25
And Abrar, if you need lessons on stumbling, I am always ready to help
4:31
You know, and just because you said that, I will probably stumble many times during this live stream because I think you might have just jinxed me
4:37
So we're going to find out. Yeah. But thank you. I'm going to ask
4:42
Sorry, go ahead. I wanted to ask Beach to get the magic capture footage up because we should talk about this and explain exactly what it is, because it's Google's attempt to destroy blurry photos
4:54
Just gone. So basically, here we go. This is magic capture in action
4:58
It's a feature that's in the camera app next to the camera button. There's a little magic icon. You click that
5:05
Then you hit the shutter and what's happening is the phone will essentially take a video
5:09
It's going to take a look at what's happening in this case There's a fellow with a soccer ball and trying to get a shot
5:15
That's not blurry is super hard when something like this is happening Google's magic capture will yze all those shots you just took and you can also tell it when to stop and you'll end up with photos like this
5:27
clear as day pictures of people that are moving around and it's super still. Now
5:33
it's probably done with a combination of hardware and software to make this happen
5:37
And if you don't like the images Google pulls out, you can just scrub through and do it yourself
5:43
Abra, what did you think of Magic Capture when you got to try it? You know, I love the idea of it taking video. Like you mentioned, you will always have that
5:51
video so you can go back and grab any stills if you don't like what it chose. But I think
5:56
I was thinking about this in terms of concerts, for example, where you're like, should I take a video
6:00
Should I take a photo? And you can take photos while you're taking a video. I get that. But sometimes you just want to be in the moment
6:05
You don't want to be looking through your phone the entire time. So I think this is great for those moments
6:10
I'm really excited to kind of take this out into the real world even more and see how often I actually opt to use this
6:17
Because I feel like old habits die hard and I'll still be like, well, I can take a good photo. So I think this involves killing my ego a little bit, which is probably necessary
6:24
But, yeah, I think it can be a huge help for folks who really do just want to, like, actually look at something in real time versus looking through their viewfinder
6:36
And just there, we were seeing Google Circle to Search, which is now in the camera app
6:40
So you don't need to snap a photo and then use Circle to Search
6:43
This seems like an obvious thing that should have been changed. And I'm very happy that exists
6:48
But I want to go back to Magic Capture because, Andrew, this is available on every Pixel 11, the cheapest one to the most expensive one
6:54
It seems like Google really wants people to enjoy this feature. Now, I want to make sure that everyone knows this because Google, I was like, hey, look
7:02
couldn't I just take screenshots from my 4K video and just have that
7:06
I was told that the frames that get pulled out are approximately 12 megapixels
7:11
which is a little bit higher than you would have gotten with the 4K screen grabs
7:15
and you don't have motion blur. So, Andrew, why do you think Google's putting so much effort into Magic Capture
7:21
I mean they trying to compete on the camera front and on all of that software aspect and just make it more seamless to capture action
7:35
Because I mean, Google's big advantage is software and it's AI and it's processing
7:40
And so I think they want to do as much with that
7:43
as they can to make you get pretty pictures. And Abra, I wanted to ask you on the magic capture
7:50
So two things on that event. One, from the time you were taking the actual pictures, how long did it take the phone to actually pull those out and process them until they were pristine
8:05
How long did that take? Yeah, that's a great question. So initially, right after you finish recording, it'll pull maybe like a couple, like two photos, for example, immediately
8:15
And then I say give it like a few minutes. Probably, I didn't time it exactly because you were running around shooting
8:21
I would say about three minutes, three to five minutes to get a series of photos that are more kind of like polished, like what you're kind of seeing in that video
8:29
That was after a couple of minutes of letting it do its thing. But, yeah, it's really neat that you'll have, you know, the video saved as well
8:35
But it doesn't take too long for it to pull the photos. OK, nice. Did you also get to hop on the skateboard there after
8:42
Like I noticed your soccer skills. I was wondering if there was also like secret footage of a bra on a skateboard that we could
8:49
I wish. Oh, my God. You know, honestly, if I could skateboard, I would be skateboarding in every single phone review video ever
8:57
I wish. But someday I'll work up to it. I'll work up to it. That was a video of Andrew Langston going around with the cameras of the Pixel 11 Pro
9:07
Now, Google's made like the sensors for almost every phone. Not better. Sorry, they've improved the cameras on every device
9:15
I want to hit this point because this confuses me a little bit. and maybe you guys have a better understanding of this
9:21
The Google Pixel 11 and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold have the same main camera
9:27
same sensor, same everything. One is the cheap one, and one is $2,000
9:34
Andrew, what do you make of this? Because this Pro Fold thing doesn't use Pro cameras
9:40
It has the regular cameras, which are good. We haven't tried these out yet, any review yet
9:46
If you want the reviews, they're coming soon. but why kind of hamstring the Fold
9:53
Google's doing me a solid, you know, I'm not all that eager to go get the Fold
9:58
So they're like, here you go, Andrew, this camera's just as good. And I'm like, thanks, Google
10:03
So I appreciate them looking out for me like that. And I think they're probably just also packing
10:12
so much stuff into the Fold with the bigger screen and everything like that
10:15
that at some point in order to keep the price as expensive as it is, they had to make cuts somewhere
10:22
But yeah, the fact that it's called the Pro Fold and it has the regular camera
10:29
feels like a little bit of a clash, but hopefully for everyday photographers like myself
10:36
that camera is still just fine in terms of taking shots that I'd actually wanna look at
10:42
Now, Andrew, that music wasn't there to play you off because what it is, is our colleague
10:48
Michael Sorrentino at the event right now. And Mike set the scene, what's it like pre-Trevor Noah
10:57
Hey everybody. So we are at a TV studio right now for sure
11:01
It is a DJ in the background getting us ready for the Pixel 11 event
11:06
And funnily enough, I have the Pixel 11 right here. It's a very strange review launch experience
11:13
where everything about the Pixel weapon is already known. But we are here to watch this live screen unveiling
11:19
and it's kind of like Trevor Noah too. Do you think this is gonna get people to like maybe
11:26
relate to the Pixel? Because Trevor Noah might be good, because last year was Jimmy Fallon
11:31
And I don't know if that helped the Pixel or hurt it. Oh my God
11:35
I suspect that, I was reading this actually in an article, I don't know, it's a story that he
11:43
A lot of people who follow technology reviews have been following the Pixel phones all day long
11:47
There's a decent chance that tonight's event is about making the Pixel be part of a lifestyle
11:55
showing it off with celebrities, showing it off in different, maybe there's fun ways
11:59
that Gemini will be used to show you how to buy a movie ticket or something
12:03
And I suspect people probably aren't going to be watching this live in mass with Google
12:08
But Google wants to be able to make scripts from this event and show it off for the next month
12:13
to come, especially as we lead into the iPhone event this fall, which is Google's biggest
12:18
obstacle, is getting through to audiences who are very used to buying iPhones in America
12:23
Yeah, Google's trying a lot of different things. They have Creator Studio that's going to be on every Pixel as well
12:27
It gives you the option of having a teleprompter. Mike, are you using the teleprompter feature of your Pixel 11 right now
12:34
No, because I am definitely making up everything I'm saying right now off the top of my head. But when I was here on Monday, one of the people that Google had showed off the teleprompter
12:42
feature because of exactly that that'll be good for people who want to do
12:45
content creation uh one of them was an actor so they said that'd be great for their audition reels as well
12:52
so i look forward to you taking tons of magic captured images
12:56
from the pixel 11 event is there anything else we should know about
13:00
the scenario you're at um it's a little bit not as i said in the background there
13:07
is the dj going but otherwise i'm expecting i'm I'm actually looking forward to seeing it
13:13
Last year when I was at the Pixel 10 event, so Jimmy Fallon, I'm looking forward to seeing teleprompters going, seeing how much of this
13:19
is going to be rehearsed versus off the cuff. At the same time, it's still going
13:24
to be fine to watch a phone event different done in more
13:28
of a talk show style again, as opposed to the stage PowerPoint presentations
13:32
we often see for other presentations. OK, before I let you go, I just want to know what the energy is like in there
13:37
Are people excited, or are they just kind of like, ah, six o'clock on a Wednesday
13:41
Or how does it feel? I think it's pretty fun. It is definitely a very media heavy crowd
13:48
We have a lot of reporters, a lot of public radio here. And so I think a lot of us are here because it is in a way
13:54
our job. But also it is still refreshing to be in a
14:00
there's like multiple cameras all over the place. There is the flashing lights in the background
14:06
same the day and 11 over and over again. So it's a good refresh
14:14
I don't know what that was, but thanks, Mike, for that. We're going to let you know how our first
14:19
poll, we had polls up on our YouTube channel. And what was that? Okay. Anyway, we have polls up
14:26
right now. And let's see how we did. Beach, can we get this poll up? So we had a question was
14:31
which Pixel has you the most excited? Pixel 11 Pro and XL, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, the Pixel 11 and
14:37
the Pixel Watch 5. After 153 votes, 50% of you are excited about the 11 Pro and XL, 20% of you
14:46
excited about the Pro Fold, 18% about the 11, and 12% of you are just jazzed about the Pixel Watch 5
14:53
Now I got to talk to Andrew about this because what the difference between the Pixel Watch 5 They look almost identical If they not identical I would be surprised Same size same look same dome You cover this
15:06
stuff. Educate us. Yeah, looks can be deceiving. We got to get more people excited about the Pixel
15:13
Watch 5. I think it could be good. It's their first watch to launch since they rolled out their
15:19
health coach, which is, yeah, that's a premium thing. But it's really cool. It has helpful
15:24
fitness advice. It helps you plan your workouts. It helps you log workouts and meals. It takes all
15:30
that into account. It's the best AI fitness coach I've tested. And the Pixel Watch is going to have
15:36
that. The Pixel Watch 4 has that too. So, I mean, there's a lot of stuff that the Pixel Watch 4 has
15:41
that the Pixel Watch 5 also has. But difference is it has a new processor that should be faster
15:47
It has more memory. It has more storage. It has a new refined GPS. So this will be handy for me
15:57
because I live in a big city. Supposedly this new GPS, like if I'm doing a run through the streets
16:03
of Chicago, it can take the distortion that normally happens off of the tall buildings out
16:09
to more precisely pinpoint my location. And supposedly the accuracy there is just as good
16:17
as some of these higher end sport watches. So that's what Google is saying. We need to test that
16:21
That sounds really cool. And then obviously there's new upgraded software, the Gemini intelligence to proactively pull up airport info, health guardians, pretty cool
16:34
which blood pressure, it'll tell you about, it'll tell you about insulin resistance meant to like
16:41
keep an eye on your holistic health for hypertension, for diabetes, even though Google
16:47
doesn't say anything about those exact words in their materials because they want to keep it as
16:53
just like an informative feature and not an actual medical feature. It is still a lot of stuff that
17:00
is being rolled out alongside the Pixel Watch 5 in addition to a big price bump
17:06
But, you know, who cares about that, right? It's just money. Just money
17:12
Yeah, let's talk about these price changes because we're currently living in a world
17:17
where things are kind of screwy, if you haven't noticed. So because of all of the massive interest in AI, there's a ton of RAM being used by all
17:25
these server farms. The problem with that is we use RAM in everything, all these phones and our computers
17:30
and stuff and so uh google a giant four trillion dollar company has trouble getting their supply
17:37
thereby making the prices higher for their devices the uh pixel 11 now starts at 899 now in all
17:44
fairness it has 256 gigabytes of storage so that's twice as much as the 10 started with so that's
17:50
good it's 12 gigabytes of ram has that new camera i think the 11 got like the best upgrade but the
17:56
pros also have some more expensive pricing. Abra, do you think that these pricing issues will stop
18:07
adoption of the Pixel or could Google actually make people think, yes, I must spend my money on
18:14
the $3,000 fold? I think it would only stop people if everyone wasn't raising their prices. I think
18:23
this is something that everyone is kind of begrudgingly having to accept of if you want
18:28
to upgrade if you even if you if you already have a pixel phone and you want to get the newer one
18:32
you're going to pay more money or if you wanted to join the pixel universe for the first time no
18:37
matter what direction you go whether you're going to buy a galaxy phone or a pixel phone or the next iphone chances are you're going to be spending more money so it's just a sad reality of where
18:45
we're at and i think people like what they like and if they're going to buy a premium phone um
18:49
As awful as it sounds, I think if you have to pay $100 more to still have the newest premium phone, a lot of people will find a way to make it happen
18:59
And, you know, this is a good time to, you know, name drop sites like CNET.com where we have carrier deals listed
19:05
If you want to try to find a way to save money, there are possibilities out there for how to hopefully not spend too much money
19:11
Yeah, there's a lot of similarity between the Pixel 11 series and the 10 series
19:16
So if you see a better deal out there, maybe you don't jump yet, but we've got to see the reviews for the Pixel 11 before we can really give you any buying advice
19:24
There's some comments over on our YouTube page. At Uno Nice said, disappointed at prices and trade-in
19:31
Smack my head. Might skip it this year. Not happy. Another person says, I hope they release the new Google book and tell us more about aluminum OS
19:41
I'm going to disappoint you because if that happens, it'd be a big surprise because this is called Made by Google
19:45
and Google doesn't make Google Books. Andrew, it's Lenovo, HP, and I think Dell
19:53
are the first partners. So you don't expect a new Google Book, do you
19:59
I'm guessing not. I think, again, Google was kind of looking out for me here
20:05
because I hate surprises. And I'm guessing this event is just a nice form
20:12
So this is made by Google for Andrew, by the way. I don't know if you saw the fine print under the title
20:17
It says for Andrew Gebhardt and nobody else. Right. Make the base level phone as appealing as possible
20:24
Let's limit all surprises so that we can just like comfortably sit in our chairs and watch Trevor Noah
20:32
So I would guess if there is going to be a surprise and I had to make a bet, I would bet it's something to do with glasses
20:41
Right. I would not bet it has to do with Google Books or anything like that
20:46
So that would be the way I would wean. But but my but my guess is no
20:52
My guess is they're just going to use this event to do funny stuff with Trevor Noah to make it seem relatable, to try to make everybody forget the Jimmy Fallon year
21:02
You know, these are the goals. We got some. We're all apparently Jimmy Fallon haters on this on this
21:08
I want to hear. Look, I just don't think we. Critics? I think a lot of us don't find him genuine, okay
21:15
Like, you know when I'm saying some sarcastic stuff, you know I mean it. Jimmy Fallon, who knows
21:21
Who knows? I want to talk about this because the Pixel's been around for a decade, okay
21:26
When Apple had 10 years of iPhone, they came out with something nuts, right
21:31
Like, okay, we got a notch now, and the shape is different. And look at all of these different, it's got an X, it's not even a 10
21:37
now google 11 pixel 11 uh look it's it's kind of the same the biggest physical change is on the
21:46
fold and on the 11 because the 11 has a reduced bump that big camera bar on the back is 40 percent
21:54
thinner now which is tiny doesn't sound like a lot but once you put a case on this device
21:59
the bump is gone it's like pixel 10a flat which is really unusual uh yeah but are these
22:07
enough to get people like jazzed about like why didn't Google do a bigger splash
22:12
unless unless Trevor Noah's got something and he's got like oh this is
22:16
the the pixel ultra here it is why not go bigger bro what do you think I think the main missed opportunity and I only say this because I typed this accidentally many times but every time I type pixel 11 I accidentally add a second L so that it looks like an 11 I feel like they could have played with that a little bit more That just my little
22:36
note for the marketing team. I think Google knows who they are, right? Google does a lot of things
22:46
Phones is just one of the many things that they do, and they do pretty well. Apple also knows who they are, and they know that they can get away with doing a super flashy
22:56
campaign where they skip the iPhone 9 and jump to the iPhone 10 and make it an X to be all fancy
23:01
right? I think we would have made fun of Google if they did too much, if I'm going to be honest
23:06
I think they know to be like, let's just let the phones talk for themselves. Let's release these
23:10
devices. We like what we've done here. And let's let other people be the judge of whether this is
23:15
you know, something that's really worth shouting about. But yeah, I mean, it is interesting that they don't really lean into that
23:20
as much as someone like Apple. I fully disagree with you saying that Google knows who they are
23:27
I do not think they know who they are. Okay, fair enough. Because they're like an advertising company, they make hardware
23:33
There's Waymo, which is under Alphabet. They've got a ton of different like fingers and pies
23:38
And I don't know if they know what they are. Heck, they're in iOS
23:42
They're Siri now. They're everything. Andrew, do you think there could have been a bigger splash
23:51
Yeah, but it's not this phone's fault, right? This is the Pixel 11
23:55
If anything, we should be blaming last year as the big one that missed the opportunity
24:01
So, yeah, no, they could have done something more. They could have done something more on the watch, too
24:05
I mean, so this is more similar to, so Apple had their big software event over the summer
24:15
And they really focused on their AI capabilities across the platform. And I mean, I think that's the way that Google's going
24:23
That's the way that Samsung's going. We saw the same thing when Samsung rolled out their new watches and phones three weeks ago
24:32
It's AI features. That's the thing. And making the phones conduits to the AIs that they want to deliver into your home
24:42
and then trying as hard as they can to make that AI relatable and usable in a way that even casual
24:52
phone users will find helpful. So to me, that's the whole crux of the matter is they want to make
25:01
this AI indispensable. And thus a Trevor Noah event, right? To make jokes about it, to make it
25:11
relatable, and thus, you know, the hardware side, you look at it and you're like, that's it
25:18
All while under the hood trying to do the magic cues and everything, because they're just like
25:24
our AI is great. Use it, dang it. That's the whole game for them, I think
25:31
Okay. So technically, I'm going to get you here, Andrew, because they introduced the first
25:35
generation in 2016. It's 2026. It's 10 years. So there, maybe don't call it the 11, call it the
25:42
X, call it whatever you want, but they didn't. Let's go to a poll. We have a second poll
25:46
What was that? Sorry, I said call it the on-say. I was trying to come up with other names for 11
25:53
that we could do. And really all I did was just say 11 in a different language. So I don't even
25:58
think that counts as creative. I'm so sorry we have wasted your time with that. Okay
26:04
So we had a second poll. I'm not sorry. We had a second poll
26:09
So we're just like off the rails, which is great because in four minutes, Google should be on the rails
26:13
But we had a poll. We asked you what feature would get you to upgrade
26:16
A, a better camera, B, a brighter screen, and C, faster wireless charging
26:22
With 122 votes, better camera won 55% of your votes, faster wireless charging, 26%, and
26:29
brighter screen, actually way more important to people than I thought, and 19%. We didn't mention that the entire Pixel 11 line now charges at 25 watts wirelessly
26:40
Now, I know that doesn't sound like an exciting stat, but it's faster charging wirelessly
26:45
Abra, what did you think of the Qi 2.2 standard being adopted
26:51
Well, I'm thrilled. And I also, my biggest beef with the Galaxy phones is their lack of built-in magnets on those phones
26:59
And so, you know, we got to get with the times. We got to, we got to, I think it's interesting how strongly people feel about wireless charging
27:06
though. Cause some people are super into it and some people are like, I really don't understand
27:09
why you guys do this. It's just, we should be able to, you know, charge whatever way we want
27:15
to charge. And I will also say last year when Google announced the pixel snap charging stand
27:19
I think that's one of my favorite accessories ever because the puck, you can remove it from
27:23
the stance. You can have it like lay flat on the table or you can have it as a stand. So if you're
27:27
looking for a wireless charger, that's the one that I personally would recommend, but yeah
27:30
It's good to see this progress. Folks, keep those questions coming, the comments coming
27:36
because we're going to throw to the show pretty soon. We'll be back right after it to say, what
27:41
What happened? Andrew, any final thoughts before we go to Trevor Noah
27:45
and probably Rick Osterloh? Yeah, I'm hopeful for the Pixel Watch 5
27:50
I know it didn't get a big, you know, flashy upgrade, but it should be really smart
27:55
And I would dig it if it is using AI in a way that's helpful
28:00
and approachable. And goodness, I hope that the battery is still as good as last gen
28:05
and the fast charging is still working and all of that good stuff
28:09
because, yeah, we need like a runaway great model on the Android side
28:14
after the Galaxy Watch 9 was not as cool. So I'm hopeful that the Pixel Watch 5 is amazing
28:22
and fireworks and great things. Good luck with that. Optimism! Optimism is something I have, but I've seen, the thing is we saw the products already
28:33
They're out already. It doesn't make sense unless Google says, oh, by the way, the watch comes in six sizes
28:39
Now here's an ultra watch because for some reason, Google does not go ahead again to
28:44
go to that market. Oh boy. Abar, any final thoughts about the 11 before we go to Trevor? Pink
28:52
That's my only thought. That's all I've got. It's not hibiscus. I've decided
28:57
When I saw that, I thought it was a T-Mobile thing. It looked like magenta, and I'm like, okay
29:01
It looked like a T-Mobile collab. It screens T-Mobile. Fluorescent. Yeah. Yeah
29:07
I like that went with colors. Okay, nice colors on the Google Pixel devices, because why not? Definitely
29:13
Yeah. So I've got time to kill, so I'm just going to keep talking about stuff. The Pixel Pro Fold with the longest name, okay
29:20
This is thinner now. It's lighter now. It's got a larger screen on the front, but they didn't increase the DPI, which annoyed me
29:27
Barbara, you're a foldable person. I'm a foldable person until I broke mine
29:32
Oh, no. Yeah. I didn't know that. That's a long story for another time
29:37
But anyway, when you try not to fold compared to the 10, what did you think
29:43
Okay, so what I thought was they're very, very similar. The bezels are thinner, so that's good
29:50
But it's obviously going to be an incremental change. And my thing that I'll add right now is, yes, I can see the crease
29:56
So if that's your question. when I open the phone, that's all I can say at the moment
29:59
in terms of my impressions, but I'll leave it at that. And I look forward to seeing what's on the inside
30:06
How is this powering all those features and how does the camera perform
30:10
And the battery is the biggest thing. Actually, the battery capacity dropped this year a little bit
30:14
So will it still last a certain amount or longer? I know Andrew's psyched because we saw Steph Curry
30:20
Go ahead. That's my optimism, is that the insides can really shine once we get it into practice
30:27
That's the optimism. Is it unfounded? Even if we don't get a crazy new hardware
30:33
I think Andrew and I as are the perfect balance of each other. We really love each other
30:39
Let's go to Trevor Noah, who is joining us live. And we'll be back after the wrap up
30:44
Hello, everyone. And welcome to Made by Google 2026 coming to you live from New York
30:50
What's up, everyone? How you doing? How you feeling? Welcome to everyone joining us from all over the world
30:56
This is the day where Google finally reveals everything they've been working on for the past year
31:01
Today, we're gonna be getting new phones, new wearables, new processors, and even a new feature called Search Roulette
31:09
where your device randomly picks something from your search history to share with all of your colleagues and friends
31:14
It's actually a feature I pitched to Google, and they declined it for some reason
31:18
My name is Trevor Noah. I'll be your host for today, which wasn't actually the plan
31:22
What happened is Google got so sick of me commenting on all the YouTube videos every time they launch something
31:27
they're like, why don't you just come do it in person? So, you know, I did. Started in the comments, and now I'm here
31:32
We have an amazing show for you today because we're not just gonna be launching the latest Google has to offer
31:37
We've also got your favorite people to help us do it, and we're also gonna be getting a special live performance
31:41
from the one and only Pink Panthers, everybody. That's gonna be fun. Now, look, if you're anything like me
31:48
the only thing that you love more than a tech reveal is the person hosting it, not wasting your time
31:52
before revealing the tech. So, let's get the show rolling. by meeting one of the people who is helping
31:56
bring all of this tech to life. This is the man who builds the future
32:02
shrinks it down, and then puts it in your pocket. Please help me welcome the one and only Rick Astolo
32:17
How are you, John? Oh, what's going on, Rick? I love how someone's doing it. Let's go, Rick
32:23
Google Rick! I'm glad my mom's here. Thanks for being here. Thank you so much for having me here
32:29
I appreciate you being here. I'm a huge fan. No, man, I'm a fan of tech. Normally I'm at home watching these
32:34
so to be in it, this is great because you're the head of devices at Google
32:39
I'm the head of devices in my family. And so what that means is, like
32:44
I set up the Wi-Fi, you know, I'll Vibe code with my agentic AI to create, like, a vector database
32:48
and I reset the clock on the microwave. But for those who don't know, what do you do
32:53
Very similar. I lead the team that creates Android and Chrome and Google hardware products like Nest, Fitbit, and Pixel
33:01
and a bunch of the amazing things you're going to see today. Okay. So you're the perfect person to answer this question then
33:07
What does the future hold? Well, I think the future is incredibly exciting
33:12
Real leaps forward, like what we're seeing right now, doesn't happen that often, where your relationship with tech totally changes. Right
33:19
You know, if you think about, like, phones and laptops, they haven't really changed that much over the last 10 to 15 years
33:24
But we're in one of those rare leaps forward right now. And we're making technology a lot more helpful
33:30
At the same time, it's getting a lot more simple. And tech like Gemini, Android, and Pixel, it works harder to try to make your life easier
33:40
And I think we'll look back in a few years and say, oh my gosh, I can't believe how difficult it was to use my phone in the old dark ages
33:47
Yeah, I mean, it feels like for a moment in time it was like, okay, the phone is just a phone. And then it's a messaging device
33:52
and then it browses the internet, takes pictures. You know, those were like the jumps
33:57
And then it just improved. It was iterative year on year. But now we're experiencing something completely different
34:02
And to be honest with you, I don't know about you here, but I have a complicated relationship with technology
34:08
Like, I love it, but I wish I could use it less. But I can't live without it at the same time
34:13
Yeah, I know what you mean. I mean, I honestly get caught up in it all the time, and I build this stuff for a living
34:18
Like, you know, oh, I just accidentally clicked on a notification. now I'm watching 15 dog videos in a row
34:23
Man, those dog videos. You're like, why did I just do that? So, I mean, the thing is your phones can do so much
34:29
Yeah. But getting all that done today requires you to do all the work
34:33
all the tapping, the scrolling, the dings. It can be pretty overwhelming sometimes
34:37
And the real problems we all want technology to solve for us have been pretty consistent
34:42
Like, I don't have enough time in my day. Where's that information I need? I want a perfect photo
34:46
I want to stay in better touch with my friends and family. I wish I could relax more
34:51
Technology should help us with all of that. It should do a lot of that for us instead of demanding that we do the work
34:58
And so that's why I'm so excited about what's coming. You asked about the future. I think that's the future
35:03
Okay, so holistically, like how are you approaching all of this complexity
35:08
You know, a lot of people want to know, like, are you keeping it simple? How do you know when to expand
35:12
Where does AI fit into all of it? How do you make those decisions? Well, for us, AI means Gemini
35:19
And you might have seen the news yesterday. There are now more than a billion people using the Gemini app
35:24
and that makes it the fastest growing product in Google history. Wow
35:29
And if we look past the numbers, we see it as a path to simpler, more helpful technology
35:39
It's reshaping the kind of help that people can expect from their tech and their lives every day
35:44
Yeah, but how does it work? You know, like how do you take the potential of what you can do, like the potential of all this tech and actually make it work in people's lives, like real people's lives
35:54
Well, you've always been able to ask Gemini for information. Yeah. But now you can actually ask it to get things done for you
36:00
So not many people are using this kind of technology yet, but I think it's a real game changer and everyone will
36:06
Like I use it for many things right now. One of them is I, you know, it's just a small thing, but I organize a weekly basketball game
36:13
And so Gemini drafts an email to everyone, to the group, sends the location and the times, and then it checks the RSVPs
36:20
And so it just handles all that in the background for me. And it takes one thing off my plate
36:24
And you can get that many times. I like that. So it's kind of like a GLP-1 of technology
36:30
Yeah, it takes things off your plate. That's basically what it's doing. But let's talk about the phones
36:35
I mean, it's one of the biggest reasons everyone tunes in for this event, right? I can think of a few examples in my head
36:41
But from your experience, what are some of the biggest advantages and benefits to having something like Gemini built into your phone
36:48
Well, I think that is the big question that we'll answer today. But I think the most simple answer is Google is here to help
36:54
We help everybody. We help people across every device. And with Android, we can push the state-of-the-art forward in software, in AI, and hardware like in smartphones
37:05
Okay. And as you'll see today, this is the combination where all the magic happens
37:09
That's why we're bringing the very best of Gemini right to the heart of our Pixel 11
37:14
phones and the new Pixel Watch 5. And we call it Gemini Intelligence
37:19
And the reason we call it that is we think it's no longer an operating system that helps
37:24
you use your phone It an intelligent system that gets things done for you Your Pixel knows you It knows what you need when you need it So when you texting a friend it can book a table at
37:36
that new restaurant and even help organize a ride to get there, all without leaving the check
37:41
So your phone can now do all of that for you, so you can get a lot more done in a lot less time
37:47
And you have full visibility. You can jump in at any time, and you can stop the task whenever you
37:52
want. I like the sound of that. I mean, I think everybody would, right? Because we want our phones
37:57
to do more, but we actually want to use the phone less, which is a paradox. Yeah. I mean
38:02
this is a huge change in how we use phones and watches every day right now. And we're also using
38:08
Gemini to reimagine devices that people have taken for granted for years, things like laptops
38:13
smart speakers, TVs, and in cars. And you'll even see some interesting new devices like
38:19
intelligent eyewear later this year. Intelligent eyewear. I'm thinking of what that actually means
38:26
Sounds like your team is busy, Rick. Like, really, really busy. They're very busy
38:31
And like I said, this is a super interesting time. And I can't wait to show you what we've built today
38:36
You'll get a look at the whole Pixel 11 family. Okay. All right. You'll get live demos of Gemini Intelligence at work
38:42
And we'll check out some incredible new health and wellness features. The big idea today is that we're building a future where you can ask more of your phone
38:52
It's all about the technology that helps you stay more in the moment instead of taking you out of it
38:57
And isn't that what we all want? I mean, that's what we all want, yeah. You want the device to work
39:03
You want it to work for you, not feel like you're working for it, which is what it feels like most of the time
39:08
It sounds like music to my ears. Ladies and gentlemen, Rick Oslo, let's do this
39:12
This is great. Thank you so much, Rick. Appreciate it. All right. So, uh, how do you take all those lofty goals
39:19
and actually incorporate them into the hardware of the phone itself? Well, we're gonna find out
39:24
And I'm not gonna lie, this is my favorite part of tech reveals. I love this because I've never thought
39:29
I would be inside the video. But this is the part where we go and we meet people who work with the products
39:34
in different departments, and then they tell us about the product, right? And then I'm the person who's supposed
39:39
to make sure nothing goes wrong. But, I mean, it's live. I'll make sure everything goes wrong
39:43
But she won't. Ladies and gentlemen, please say hi to a very special person
39:47
This is Isabel, everybody, from the Pixel Design team. Hey, Isabel, how are you
39:53
It's great to see you, Trevor. It's great to see you. You know why Isabel is so special? Because Isabel is one of the first person
39:59
in fact, one of the first people ever to work on design hardware at Google
40:05
Like, we're looking like an OG here right now. So you're the perfect person
40:09
to walk us through this year's lineup. Thanks, Trevor. Yeah, I've been designing Google hardware since the very, very beginning
40:16
And I think my job is all about figuring out what it means to experience Google in your hand
40:22
Right. And since a phone is something you carry with you every day, it should be designed for you
40:26
It needs to feel great to use and it to be a true representation of you
40:31
The Trevaphone by Google. That's what you said now, right? You said you are making a phone
40:37
We'll talk about it later. Okay, I'll take that as a yes. I like that. But we brought this design philosophy to life across the entire Pixel lineup, like the brilliant Pixel 11, our Pro and our Pro XL, and the new Pixel 11 Pro Fold
40:51
Okay, I hear all of that. But this, I'm glad this came up because I have questions I've always wanted to ask
40:57
You always say like, oh, we've come up with the colors. How? How do you pick the colors
41:03
Like, does nobody else wonder this? Like, every year there's like the new colors
41:07
Like, how do you pick it? Is there an art person? Do you have, like, a color scientist
41:11
Or do you just have, like, the judgiest person in the office who's just like, ah, that's the one, those ones suck
41:16
Like, how do you do it? Unfortunately, sometimes that's me. But I will say we don't really pick the colors
41:23
We create them. And it's an art and a science. Okay. You lost me
41:30
What does that mean? Okay, so we're thinking about what will resonate with people
41:34
like, many years in advance. And it's all about that exploration. So we look at trends, cultures, we look at fashion, and we look at nature for inspiration
41:44
And one cool thing that my team and I do, we collect objects from all over the world
41:49
It doesn't matter really what it is, as long as it intrigues us. So it could be a Japanese candy, a butterfly's wing, a bar of soap from Italy
41:57
Like, we have really weird stuff in our studio. Yeah, it sounds like it
42:01
I like that. Just like the idea that somebody out there is walking around the world just picking things up and like
42:05
what are you doing? I work at Google. Leave me alone. I work at Google
42:10
Okay, so basically you live with the colors. You see how they blend into people's lives
42:14
Japanese candy, butterfly wing. I can see that. All right. Yeah, and I think this year you'll see some bold, fun colors on Pixel 11 phones
42:24
In my opinion, I think we have the coolest colors that we've ever had this year
42:28
Although I say that every year. But super excited about bringing that to life
42:34
And then we also have our Canyon Pixel 11 Pro, which has this combination of a sun-baked sandy color and a polished gold that just is designed to draw you in
42:46
I definitely feel drawn into the canyon. Well, we have also the new Fog and Olive, which feel organic and sophisticated
42:55
And then to my personal favorite this year, it's Obsidian. It has this quietly luxurious all matte finish
43:02
So across everything we make, we make options that stand out while complementing each other
43:09
I'm not going to lie. That new Canyon color is stunning. So I saw the devices beforehand
43:14
Canyon color is beautiful. Like, it has a nice pop to it. The olive is great. My favorite is the obsidian
43:19
Like, I just like the matte, right? It's just got a nice vibe. Yeah, it's got that, like, you know what I mean
43:24
One thing that, sorry, it's stuck in my head is earlier on you said we create the colors
43:28
and if I'm honest, you didn't invent black. I mean, the other ones you can say you made, but you didn't invent black
43:33
I mean, you can't be like, we created black. I'm from Africa. I would know whether or not you did
43:38
Uh, let's talk about the camera. The camera. Sorry, before I throw you off. Is there something different there
43:42
Yes, Trevor. Pixel is famous for its camera and for the design of its camera bar
43:47
It's so iconic that people are starting to copy us a little bit there. So this year, we made the Pixel 11 camera bar much slimmer
43:55
even with a new main camera. So it slides right into your pocket. And with our most advanced camera tech ever on Pro
44:02
we've wrapped the camera bar in sleek metal with a stunning edge-to-edge glass design
44:07
that just balances perfectly on a table. Yeah, I saw that, and I saw, like, when you play with the covers as well
44:12
like, the camera doesn't pop out, so it's just, like, flush, and it's really cool
44:16
The display, tell us about the new display. Yeah, so we put so much care into our displays, Trevor
44:22
Pixel 11 Pro has the brightest display on a smartphone, So everything looks incredible, even on the sunniest day
44:29
And then the two displays on the Fold are just gorgeous. The outer screen has ultra-thin borders, and it feels so much more immersive
44:38
And then when you open it up, you have double the display for watching videos
44:42
reviewing and docs, or multitasking on the go, whatever you want. The thing I like about the Fold is for all the people who couldn't get IMAX 70-millimeter tickets
44:51
you can just unfold the device and then you see all the parts of the Odyssey you missed You be like oh he has one eye Oh I get it now I get it So that the phones I see a watch Can you tell us about the new watch Yeah so this is my Pixel Watch 5
45:06
and it's designed to be a timepiece. It has this beautiful dome body
45:10
with a display that goes all the way to the edge. But it's the band and the watch face
45:15
that makes the watch yours. And the bands are just really stunning. And you have these endless combinations here
45:21
so you can completely transform your look for a date or a gym or, you know, Pixel Watch can really stand out or fit in
45:29
And did I hear that, uh, Steph Curry designed one of these bands
45:33
You mean four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry? That's exactly who I meant
45:39
Yeah, it would be weird if I was like, no, Steph Curry, the guy from the bodega. Yes, that's Steph Curry. That's exactly who I meant
45:45
Fair enough, but he's been working with us for over a year as our Google Health performance
45:50
advisor. And he collaborated hand-in-hand with our design team on his own special edition band for Pixel
45:56
Watch 5. Now, there's so much more happening with Pixel Watch 5 this year, including
46:02
some breakthrough health and wellness features. And you're going to want to check
46:06
that out later. That really looks good. Now, take a look at this
46:11
Wow. I don't know what that is. I just... I think you're supposed to say
46:14
wow when you work at these things. You just go like, wow! But I don't know. Yeah
46:18
It is the new Pixel tag. And It does look much bigger on the screen than in real life
46:24
I've been told that before, yeah. I take pictures of tags all the time
46:30
What do you mean? Okay. Moving on. This is this incredible thin smart tag for Android
46:41
that is coming out later this year. So you can track its precise location
46:46
and it's slim enough to slip into your wallet or clip to your keys, so you know exactly where in your house you left them
46:51
Can I just say, I am so glad you made this because so many people on Android forums
46:57
so many people with Pixel phones, so many people have been asking, like, when are we gonna get, like, a findable tag
47:02
And for it to come out is amazing. You can finally find your keys
47:06
They're probably under the couch because they're always under the couch, but now we know for sure. And, yeah, I think this is really cool
47:11
A lot of people like it when they see the tech come out that's gonna work for them
47:15
And looking at, you know, looking at all these devices, it feels like there's a cohesiveness to all of it now
47:22
It really feels like it speaks a language. Well, thank you for noticing that, because that is the intention
47:28
But I will say a lot of the most important design elements are things you might never know about or notice
47:32
So, for instance, the entire Pixel lineup is designed for durability. And we have this cool reliability lab
47:39
where we really put our devices through absolute torture so we know that they can stand up to everyday life
47:46
Yeah. I mean, that's the most important thing, standing up to everyday life. It's difficult for the best of us
47:51
They should also make one where you just, like, get out of your car and then the phone drops
47:55
You need to put that in the factory as well. It's like, get out the car and then the phone
47:59
It's amazing how much damage your phone can take just from... I'm just helping to improve things here, people
48:05
That's what I'm doing. We're really grateful for you advising on our reliability lab
48:10
And good news is that this year, our pro displays have a new coating
48:14
that is twice the scratch resistance. for that use case. So you can throw your phone in your bag
48:18
or in between your seats, I guess, with your keys and not worry about it
48:22
And the new Pro Fold is three times more durable, and the new back cover is designed
48:28
to be nearly impossible to crack. Wow. And not only that, we re-engineered the hinge
48:34
to make sure it holds up. The reliability lab opened and closed it
48:38
Check this out. 83,552,000 times. Damn. That's, what, like three days? That's amazing
48:51
I like that. 83 million? I would have done 84 million. That's good feedback, too
48:57
I mean, it's just me. I'm a thorough guy, you know? It's kind of got to be like 84 million, but next year, next year
49:03
Got it. Okay. Well, foldable phones are notoriously hard to protect against the elements
49:10
but ours is still one of the only foldables that is protected against both dust and water
49:17
So the foldable also has an IP rating. Like, this is the foldable
49:23
This is the foldable. Okay, so a little rain doesn't slow you down. Not at all
49:27
Pixel are designed to last. But, you know, sometimes accidents happen, and they require help from a repair pro
49:34
so we design for them, too. And you'll probably never see these details
49:38
but we use these green screws and guides inside the phone to make repairs easier
49:44
And it might seem like a small thing, but it could also save you from having to replace your phone
49:48
It is not a small thing at all. That's the only thing I'll shout out. Come on, repairability, people. What are we talking about
49:54
Yeah, you can fix the phone. That's huge. And the last design element I wanted to touch on is one of the ones that I'm most proud of
50:04
So we've always worked to make Pixels more sustainable without compromising that premium feel
50:10
So for five years, every Pixel phone has been built with 100% recycled aluminum frames
50:17
And the Pixel 11 series is crafted with 10 recycled materials inside and out, like lithium and rare earth elements
50:25
So Trevor, it's a phone you can feel really good about using
50:30
That's amazing. Thank you very much for that. That's beautiful. Well, thank you so much for the pixel design tour, Isabel
50:37
Thank you, and thank you for tolerating me. This seems like a perfect time to get a pixel fit check
50:43
with actress, model, and fashion icon Ayami Nakajo. I feel like everything is cooler in Japan
51:27
You guys should have seen me when I was in Japan. Totally different guy. All right, Edward is here from the Pixel product team
51:33
and he has some exciting news to share for Google fans in Japan
51:38
Yeah, a warm ohayo gozaimasu, and shout-out to Ayami and everyone else
51:43
at our new Google store in Tokyo, which opens today in Omotesando
51:48
Hey, good morning, Tokyo! What are we talking about? All right. All right, Edward, we've seen the outside of the new Pixel
51:56
and like my therapist would say, now it is time to go deeper. I want to know about the processor
52:01
Everyone wants to know about the cameras. And most importantly, we want to know about the battery
52:05
All right. Let me take you under the hood for a little bit. Pixel 11 is powered by Google's next-gen Tensor G6 processor
52:12
It's designed specifically to power Gemini intelligence, and it makes sure Pixel's award-winning camera takes it to the next level this year
52:20
Pro's new main camera makes everyday photos look extraordinary. And there an all telephoto camera with up to 120x zoom What does 120x zoom mean Like how far is it Can we zoom all the way from here to New Jersey
52:38
so I can see why I don't live there? Basically, you can get crisp, clear photos of this landmark
52:46
even from way back here. Wow. Wow, that's impressive. I live in that building
52:53
That's wild. Wait, really? No, I don't. I'll keep joking. It would be great if I did, but no
52:57
Okay, I was going to say, I think we can get a pretty good view of Jersey from there. That's insane, though
53:02
120x, that's what we were looking at. That's insane. Yeah. And it's great not just from far away
53:07
Yeah. You can use pixel camera for close-ups, like beautiful high-res portrait shots of your friends
53:13
On top of that, you're going to get gorgeous shots in the dark, too. The new instant night sight is four times faster, so pixel camera can capture an evening scene
53:21
without that obnoxious flash or without having to hold still for that low-light shot
53:26
That's what everyone wants. And that's something, I guess, cameras... Like, in the camera world and phones
53:32
you know, Pixel has always been lauded for having one of the best low-light cameras
53:36
and also a camera that's really good at discerning between different skin tones, which comes in clutch
53:41
The question is, though, what does all of this cost us in terms of battery life? Right. I'm glad you asked
53:47
because battery life is one of those things that we care about the most in our phones
53:51
So I'm happy to say right out the gate, Pro gives you 30 hours of battery life
53:57
On top of that, yeah, on top of that, you're going to get faster wired and wireless charging, too
54:04
So if you're like me, rushing this morning, and you forget to plug in your phone last night, no problem
54:09
Just plug it in for 15 minutes before walking out the door, and you're going to get 15 hours of battery
54:15
Wow. Yeah. And that's also true for the watch, by the way
54:20
15 minutes on the charger gives you almost a full day of battery. 15 minutes on the charger for the watch gets you almost..
54:26
That's really clutch, I think, because a lot of people will wear the watch for their sleep tracking
54:31
And then it becomes the ultimate gift. It's like, if you wear it while you're sleeping, it doesn't have battery
54:35
And then you've got to go with the watch when you leave. And then now charging it. So 15 hours for 15 minutes on the phone
54:40
you get on the watch you said it was? 15 minutes, almost a full day. 15 minutes, almost a full day. Yeah
54:45
Okay, tell us about privacy and security. our lives on these devices
54:50
We've got our photos, we've got our texts to our friends, credit card numbers, AI chat history
54:54
How safe is most of the sensitive stuff? Yeah, I hear you
54:59
And I know that's a question on a lot of people's minds these days. So let me start by saying your AI experience on Pixel
55:05
has the most privacy protection on any phone. Yeah, but what is AI privacy
55:11
What does that mean? So some specifics, Pixel has more tools built in
55:15
to lock down your data and more transparency whenever you're using AI
55:19
So your phone's going to show you what AI is doing, and it never shows your information unless you choose to
55:25
On top of that, you'll have comprehensive controls for how your data is used
55:29
You can turn AI features on or off whenever you want. That makes sense, and everybody wants control, all right
55:36
I'm right there with you with control. So at the same time, everything on your Pixel works together
55:41
the software, the hardware, the processor, and the AI to give you real-world protections
55:47
So let me share three protections with you that hopefully after this you shouldn't have to think
55:51
about. First, your phone automatically blocks those annoying spam texts and phone calls for you
55:57
and it's going to warn you if a phone call or message might look a little fishy and be scammed
56:03
Second, you shouldn't ever have to think about security updates. So Pixel will stay secure
56:08
against future threats with seven years of automatic security updates. And lastly, Pixel 11's upgraded security chip
56:16
help keeps personal information protected. So you have that peace of mind
56:20
that your sensitive stuff is safe. I love that. That's an upgrade from the feature I invented for spam
56:27
What I do is I'll look at a number and say, this is probably spam. And then I answer it
56:32
Yeah. Oh, no, Trevor. Don't do that. And with Pixel, hopefully it won't get to that point
56:38
All right. What about the Pixel Buds? This is something that blew the tech world away
56:43
You know, Google made a splash. And if you're in the tech world, you know what I'm talking about. They made a splash when they dropped some of the best earbuds the industry have seen
56:50
What's up with the new ones this year? Right. These are the Pixel Buds Pro 2
56:56
And like all Pixel devices, they're always getting better with powerful new features and software updates
57:01
For instance, the noise cancellation just got a huge upgrade. So normally, when you're out living life
57:08
it can sometimes be a little bit hard to get that perfect seal. When you're, say, running, dancing, or if you're like me
57:15
doing your lymphatic drainage exercises, yeah? All right, well, now software in your Pixel Buds will adjust to compensate
57:23
so you'll still get powerful noise cancellation regardless of what you're doing
57:28
And there's one more cool thing that I think you'll appreciate, Trevor. Later this year, your buds will automatically pause your audio
57:34
if your Pixel watch senses that you're asleep. So if you're actually able to sleep
57:39
on that next red-eye flight from the West Coast to the East Coast, you won't miss a thing from your favorite podcast
57:46
Oh, my favorite podcast? Which could that be? Could it be the one that I'm on
57:50
Shameless plug! No, I really love that. I do love it. Exactly, exactly
57:55
Well, thank you so much. Edward, this has been amazing. Thank you for the showcase. I appreciate it
58:02
Okay, everyone. Uh, now that we've been introduced to the Pixel family
58:07
let's get into what the devices can actually do for us. No phone will ever capture sunrise in 576 megapixels
58:19
like your eyes can. They can connect you to the world through your fingertips
58:29
But it can't understand what it feels like to get goosebumps from a single touch
58:35
Your phone can guide you through every street in Mumbai, but it'll never know the beauty of being totally lost
58:43
It can help you order any food in almost any language, but it'll never get how pad thai just hits in the wee hours
58:53
A phone could hold on to a moment, but it could never hold a hand when that's all we need
58:59
and with all due respect nothing will ever replace real actual FaceTime
59:09
it used to be the best phone was one you couldn't put down
59:14
until we built one you actually could Well, that's a strong claim
59:37
That's a big one. A company that wants you to put your phone down
59:41
and only pick it up when you want to. To show us how that's possible
59:46
please welcome Tony, everybody. Hey, Tony. How you doing? How you doing
59:53
Good to see you again. Good to see you again. All right, Tony, so tell us a little bit about yourself
59:58
What do you do at Google? Well, I work on pixel sensors inside and out, so when your phone is face down, you see my handiwork
1:00:06
Okay, okay. And if you're like most people, your phone is face down a lot
1:00:10
It helps us to disconnect and be more present when our phones are constantly trying to get our attention with pings and notifications
1:00:18
But when I can't see my screen, I find myself worrying that I'm missing something important
1:00:23
And so I pick up my phone again to see if my babysitter called
1:00:26
or if the friend I've been playing phone tag with rang me back. Things I don't want to ignore
1:00:32
I'm so glad you brought it up because it feels like we'll be going in circles with our phones, right
1:00:36
Obviously, they started off ringing. Then it was too loud. Then we made them silent. But then we missed the call
1:00:41
So then we introduced vibration, which worked until you put it on a table. And now the whole table is vibrating
1:00:46
So it feels like we're just, like, going around in a loop. So this is a new feature to address that, essentially
1:00:51
Exactly. Exactly. That's why we came up with a simple solution called Highlight
1:00:56
You can assign your favorite people or groups one of five colors
1:01:01
When the back of the phone gently glows with their color, you'll know they're trying to reach you even when your phone is face down
1:01:07
And it's not just for calls. When you're talking to Gemini, you now get a subtle visual cue
1:01:11
letting you know that Gemini is active. So go on and keep your phone face down
1:01:18
You can be in the moment without worrying that you're missing something important
1:01:21
And I'm not gonna lie, Tony, I feel like you've changed my life. No, like, this is..
1:01:27
Okay, you all know what I'm talking about, because you've got always on display. So now you're looking at the phone
1:01:31
and the phone's notifying you, but you don't want to look at the phone, but you don't want to miss anything. But now you can do it with the colors
1:01:36
and in my head I was thinking, I've already got the colors planned out. I figured, yeah, I'll go with purple for my friends
1:01:41
I'll go with white for my dad's side of the family. And then red, I'll go with red for all the red flags in my life
1:01:48
You know, I shouldn't answer, but I stay in contact with people, even though I shouldn't, so that's what I'll do
1:01:52
I like that. Well, Trevor, red isn't actually one of the colors
1:01:56
Okay. You know what? That's probably for the best. I probably should move on. You're right. Thank you, Tonya
1:02:00
Thank you. You know, I only highlight the people I love. My closest friends are pink, purple highlight for mom
1:02:08
and teal for international music sensations. How many international music sensations are calling you
1:02:13
Trevor, I have a pretty cool job. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage
1:02:19
superstar DJ Peggy Goo. Hello, everybody
1:02:31
What's going on, Peggy? Welcome, welcome. We were just chatting about Pixel's new highlight feature
1:02:38
Think you can help us show everyone how it works? Tony, I'm way ahead of you
1:02:42
Let's try this out. This is live demo time. It's live demo time
1:02:47
Let's go. And there it is, the teal highlight. Even when my phone is on silent, I know an international music sensation is calling me
1:03:00
Sorry, Peggy, I can't talk right now. I understand. So that's highlight
1:03:07
Sometimes it's the simplest features that are the most powerful. Peggy, who will you highlight
1:03:14
I would say my most important color is my mom. And her favorite color is purple, so she's going to be purple
1:03:20
when mama wants to talk, mama wants to talk. Well, Highlight is available globally
1:03:26
on the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro Fold. That's amazing. Wait, wait, wait, wait
1:03:30
Before you clap, though, you said that was for calling. Like, what about, like, messaging or anything else
1:03:36
Well, as you can imagine, we'll be adding more capabilities to Highlight over time
1:03:41
like message notifications from your closest people. So I hope that helps
1:03:46
Thank you so much. Thank you for the demo, but can I just say, Peggy and Tony
1:03:49
I feel like you could have answered that call. That was weird
1:03:54
I mean, we would have understood. You could have answered the phone, but now we just sat here and then you declined it
1:03:58
and then she had to act like it was natural. But it wasn't. But the feature was great. The feature was great
1:04:02
The interaction was weird, but the feature's great. All right, it's time for us to check in with Kenny
1:04:06
who's hanging out across the river in Brooklyn. He's gonna show us how Pixel Camera can help us capture the moment and stay in the moment
1:04:13
Take it away, Kenny. Thanks, Trevor. I'm coming live to you from Brooklyn Bridge Park
1:04:22
and I'm plugged in here so I can show you something kind of cool. Okay, so first, Pixel Camera has always been known
1:04:29
for breakthrough camera features that help you get that perfect shot, no matter what
1:04:34
Not enough light in the scene? No problem. You've got night sight. Too far away? Use Pro Zoom
1:04:40
Want to be in the shot instead of just taking it? You've got Adme. Pixel 11 Pro has our best camera yet
1:04:47
And this year, we're going even further to help you get that shot with a new mode called Magic Capture
1:04:52
It's available globally on every Pixel 11 phone. And to show you how it works, let me introduce you to a couple of my friends
1:04:59
Sir. YouTube sensation, Jesser. Hey, what up, made by Google? What's popping, bucket squad
1:05:05
And college basketball superstar, Juju Watkins. What's up? What are we showing off today, Kenny
1:05:10
Okay. What if I told you there's a new way to quickly grab great photos and a video at the same time
1:05:17
so you can experience the moment without being glued to your phone. Okay, I love it already
1:05:21
Can you show us how it works? Okay, how about I show everyone, and then you guys just do your thing
1:05:26
Okay, Juju, we got to give him a highlight reel worthy type play. Let's do it
1:05:30
Hey, let's go. Let's go. Okay, okay, okay, okay. So hear me out, hear me out
1:05:34
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me. I'm on a basketball court in the middle of Brooklyn for some reason
1:05:40
about to watch Juju Watkins put on a show. I obviously want proof that I was here
1:05:44
but I also want to experience all of this with my eyes and not through my phone screen
1:05:49
So, check this out. I just point my phone at the action, open up camera, start magic capture, and Pixel does the rest
1:05:56
It's going to find the most compelling moments in the scene and then turn them into photos for me
1:06:00
All right, let's do it. Okay, Juju, I'm thinking we do the classic jav set, one dribble pull up
1:06:05
I'll get your rebound. I got you. Okay, here we go. Moment of truth. We love it. Smooth as butter
1:06:12
Okay, okay. We got to see one more. I got you. One more, one more. Okay, there we go
1:06:20
Let's go. Let me see you drive to the basket now. Let's see that. Actually, I want to see what Jester's got
1:06:24
You want to see what I can do? Yeah. Okay. Okay, Jester
1:06:28
Okay. Jester, you have one job. Don't mess this up. You ready
1:06:32
I won't mess this up. Layup is easy. Hey. Okay, okay. You got up there
1:06:38
I'm not going to lie. I'm not going to lie. Let's go. That was kind of tough. That was tough, Kenny. It was a travel, but it was tough
1:06:43
It was good. How was that a travel? I don't make the rules, but it's two steps. I don't get it. What are you talking about
1:06:47
So typically, Magic Capture looks through around 400 different frames to find those perfect moments when everyone is looking at the camera
1:06:54
or the action is, like, at its peak. Okay, moment of truth
1:06:59
Okay. How did these photos turn out? I know they're going to be great. I guarantee it
1:07:04
Ooh, we got some good ones. We got some really good ones. First off, phenomenal
1:07:08
The jump shot, the city in the background. The pixel watch popping
1:07:13
Okay, we like that abs popping too. We love that. Okay. The form is going crazy
1:07:18
I like the one leg. Wait a minute. Okay. Okay, Juju, we see you. Okay
1:07:22
That's actually a poster. That's amazing. Okay man That awesome Let see Jester Let see it You got up there Okay You did it You did it Gemini make me dunk You know AI only can do so much We still working on it
1:07:35
It's evolving technology. But one of my favorites I like is this
1:07:40
The point at the skyline, the things behind you, the bucket squad shirt
1:07:45
That's me pointing at you when I dunk on you. It's never happened. It has happened
1:07:48
It's literally never happened. We can go right. Okay. Anyway, the best part about all this
1:07:53
is I got all these shots while staying in the moment. Hey, and that's what it's all about
1:07:58
Jesser, Juju, I appreciate you so much for helping me show off Magic Capture
1:08:02
And back to you, Trevor. Yo, thank you so much for that
1:08:08
That's a live demo happening in Brooklyn. That's amazing. Thank you for putting Magic Capture to the test out there
1:08:14
Next up, we're gonna be taking a quick trip to Paris with international cricketer
1:08:18
and one of the world's premier top-order batters, Shubman Gill. Yamuna, what's on my schedule today
1:08:35
Your schedule is completely clear for today. Is there a local cricket scene
1:08:39
In the broader Paris region, the more formal cricket scene is organized. What about gully cricket
1:08:44
State ball cricket is much more common in the Paris region. Where can I play? The Sarse Cricket Club is based nearby and competes in local leagues
1:08:51
Oh, perfect. Let's go. Okay, I'm pulling up directions to Sarse Cricket Club
1:09:00
This neighborhood looks cool. You're in the 10th Aron Dismore. Anything that I'd like in this area
1:09:06
There's a well-known Indian restaurant nearby. Do they have butter chicken? Yes. Locals seem to love it
1:09:42
All right, everybody
1:09:57
I am now joined by Stephanie from the Pixel product team. Stephanie, a few years ago
1:10:04
when we started seeing AI on devices, if we're honest about this, if we're really honest
1:10:08
it was this cool promise, but most of the features were like, it can help you make a picture
1:10:14
It can help you write a poem. And it was things that were cool for demos
1:10:17
but it wasn't anything that people would actually use in their everyday life. I've now heard that today you're going to show us
1:10:23
some real magic. Definitely. I've got everyday magic for you. Okay. So here's the thing
1:10:28
What if your phone could do more for you, magically cross things off your to-do list
1:10:33
We're all so incredibly busy. We've all got our stuff going on. So, like, it can do things for me
1:10:39
Like, how much can it do for me? Like, everything? Can I do nothing at all
1:10:45
So we designed Pixel for Gemini Intelligence. So let me show you
1:10:50
Say a friend texts me about going to a birthday party next week. Sounds fun
1:10:55
It is. So here you can see the text thread. Okay. Typically, when you are going to RSVP to something like this, you'd have to go through your text, your calendar, think about whether you can go, look up the location
1:11:07
but now it's all here pixels pulled it all together right in the text thread i've got my
1:11:14
schedule right here and i can just press and it looks like i can go which is awesome and so i'll
1:11:20
press let's free or that i can go and press send okay so it's looking at your calendar it goes you
1:11:26
are free it suggested the calendar first you then selected the calendar it then said you were free
1:11:30
you said yes i'm free and it's okay got it it's all right there and it even lets me add it to my
1:11:35
calendar so I don't forget to go. Oh, I love that. You know, because it's like less app switching
1:11:40
less getting distracted, leaving friends hanging. Because sometimes I'll go to one app and then like
1:11:45
go off and live a whole new life. So my ADHD thanks you. Exactly. And you're going to love
1:11:50
this even more if you like that. So you can even get those helpful notifications right on your
1:11:55
Pixel Watch. So a friend just texted me, which is great. And I can just scroll down with my fingers
1:12:02
and it has an answer for me that it's pulled right from my calendar
1:12:07
And I don't even need to pick up my other hand. I can just pinch to select that reply and send
1:12:12
Oh, that's slick. It's super cool. Oh, that's slick. Okay. Super cool. But let's not stop there
1:12:19
So like Rick mentioned earlier, your phone can now handle all kinds of digital tasks and chores for you
1:12:24
under your control. So my family and I were visiting New York City this week
1:12:28
and we always love to go to some of our favorite spots and get dinner
1:12:32
So let me just ask Gemini to help with the details. Okay. Book a table for three next Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Serafina in Meatpacking on OpenTable
1:12:47
So now Gemini's on it. It's going to start by going to Google Maps to find that right restaurant location
1:12:52
and then go to OpenTable to make the reservation. Yeah, but okay
1:12:58
Okay, so that looks good, but now how do I know it won't go rogue on me
1:13:01
So I go like, oh, get me a table at this place, and then it ships me a table from a furniture store or something
1:13:07
How do I know it won't do that? It'll do pretty much everything but hit pay
1:13:11
Hitting confirm is up to me, and then I'm done. So now I'm not glued to my phone
1:13:16
I can just relax and hang out with my family. I'm not stuck to my phone making plans
1:13:20
And you can already automate actions in over 40 apps, everything from restaurant reservations, retail, travel, and even event tickets
1:13:29
And we're adding more all the time. Wow, I love that idea. It's just like, book the restaurant
1:13:33
does all the things that I don't want to do. Right. It's truly just magic
1:13:37
It really is. When I go there, can it eat the food for me
1:13:41
No. Come on, Trevor. That's the fun part. Gemini does the tedious stuff for you
1:13:46
All right. Maybe in a few years' time. Eat my food, phone. Eat my food, one step at a time
1:13:51
Stephanie, thank you so much, and thanks for doing a live demo. This is great. It's happening in front of us right now
1:13:55
I know. So the Pixel can order my groceries. It can book my travel, help me book it
1:14:01
What else can Gemini Intelligence do? Well, let's find out with Joelle
1:14:05
Thanks, Stephanie. Thank you. What's going on, Joelle? What's up, fellas? How's it going, Hades
1:14:12
Doing well. Good to see you again. I'm here. Here we are, another live demo
1:14:16
So, Joelle, tell me your story, man. What's your story? So, I'm on the Gemini team here at Google
1:14:21
and quick fun fact, actually, you and I grew up in the same town in South Africa
1:14:25
and I remember watching some of your stand-ups back home when we were both much, much younger
1:14:31
Wait, is that like a real thing, or are you just saying that because we're here
1:14:35
Oh, no, I never lie, never. This is, so for real, where in South Africa
1:14:40
I'm for real, for real. No, but where then, where? Johannesburg, South Africa. Where in Johannesburg
1:14:44
Everywhere from Hillbrow to Four-Way. Yo, this man's legit, what? I am very legit
1:14:49
Are you being serious? I am very legit. Oh, damn, I thought this was like a corporate thing. No, I never lie, I never lie
1:14:53
No, that's wild. Yo and now we on stage in New York City I loving this man this is fantastic okay Oh yeah no honestly this is pretty surreal pretty surreal This is fantastic I thought you were gonna be like we grew up in the same place and you owe me money That normally how it goes
1:15:06
Um, all right, so, Joel, um, from-from the conversations that, you know, we're having here today
1:15:10
it seems like Pixel with Gemini intelligence makes everything easier. Mm-hmm. I'm-I'm not gonna lie. Selfishly
1:15:15
and I'm sure some people will join me on this, my biggest pet peeve is typing. Can it fix typing? Typing sucks
1:15:22
Oh, man. First of all, I could not agree more. I actually find that talking to my Pixel
1:15:27
is a much more natural way to communicate. Yeah, that's interesting, but people can say that
1:15:32
But if we're honest, and you know what I'm talking about, especially if you have an accent, right
1:15:37
You talk to your phone, but then you have to start speaking like a robot
1:15:42
and enunciate carefully, or the phone cannot understand you. You know what I'm talking about
1:15:47
I know what you're talking about, but maybe on your old phone. Damn. Humble brag
1:15:51
The Pixel is already the fastest and most accurate voice input on the phone
1:15:58
And today, it's getting even better. You mind if I show you? Okay, let's do it. All right
1:16:02
This is gonna be fun. Okay, so my mom is a huge fan of yours
1:16:07
Would you mind if we sent her a text message? She would go absolutely ballistic. That's how you know times have changed
1:16:12
People used to be like, I am a huge fan. Now they say my mom is a huge fan. Ooh-wee
1:16:17
It's time to wrap it up, Trevor. Time to wrap it up. All right, yeah, let's do this
1:16:21
All right, so here you go. So you're just going to hit the little microphone icon on the keyboard
1:16:26
and then speak freely. I'm doing this. You're doing this. And then speak freely like a normal conversation
1:16:31
Wait, so are you guys, you're just seeing the screen with me. This is, I'm controlling
1:16:35
Oh, damn, that's me. Oh, yeah. No, because I've always watched these and then I've always wondered like, is it the person
1:16:40
But then they always do like smooth things. Ibi, ibi, ibi, ibi, ibi. Ibi, ibi, ibi, ibi, ibi, ibi, ibi, ibi, ibi, ibi, ibi, ibi, ibi, ibi, ibi
1:16:46
Sorry, sorry. Okay, let's go. Let's go. I don't want to affect the stock price. Hold on, hold on
1:16:49
Let's do this properly. Okay, sorry. What were you saying I must do? You said I must? So just hit the little microphone icon on the keyboard
1:16:56
Okay, got it. And then speak freely. Yeah. And then what? I just send..
1:16:59
Well, say it first, and then we'll double check what you said before we send it to her. Yeah, but like, okay, but now..
1:17:03
No, no, no. Because I've heard about... Is this the Rambler feature? This is it. Okay, so now, from how I understand
1:17:09
I can speak normally. 100% normally. I can, like, pause. I can do random things. Yep
1:17:14
I can even go backwards and change my mind. Okay, let's go
1:17:20
Hey, this is Trevor Noah. I'm on stage right now with your son
1:17:26
No, wait, your amazing son. We're at MBG, the Made by Google event
1:17:31
Actually, call it the Made by Google show. That's more fun. Anyway, just wanted to say hi
1:17:37
from a fellow South African who loves his mom. Okay, and... Oh, there you go
1:17:48
Hey, this is Trevor Norman. Yo. There we go. So it made sense of all that nonsense that you were saying
1:18:00
Hey, this guy. He's really from South Africa. And technically, what just happened is your phone understood what you meant, not just what you said
1:18:09
So it made sense of all those ums, those moments where you changed your mind. Right. Yeah, yeah
1:18:13
Essentially, all these natural parts of how you speak. Now, on that old phone of yours, you'd have to go back
1:18:18
clean all that up, and on the Pixel, you can just send it as is
1:18:21
Okay. So should I send it? I think we should, but I heard you love heart emojis
1:18:28
Who did you hear this from? Oh, man, from your crew? So..
1:18:32
I'll show you another little trick. Add a heart hands emoji. And there you have it
1:18:42
Aw, that is my vibe. It even picked my skin tone. I like that. That's really cool
1:18:47
No, that's right. And it knows how I write, too. This new voice typing is rolling out globally starting today
1:18:53
And it's right in the Pixel keyboard. So you could use it anywhere on your phone instead of typing
1:18:58
Now, I told my mom that I had a surprise for her
1:19:02
So I'm really hoping she's awake. Boom. Oh, she texted back. Oh, that's beautiful
1:19:09
Okay, let's see. Wow. Cool. You are... That's French. Je ne vais pas français
1:19:19
I'll be honest, I really expected her to be asleep because she loves her sleep, but I'm glad she's watching
1:19:23
What did she say, though? Okay, so first and foremost, like a lot of people
1:19:29
my mom and I typically chat in multiple languages. I speak five languages, and I..
1:19:34
That's weird to brag about. No, it's like it's unnecessary to just say it
1:19:40
I speak six, but I don't say that. Do you know what I mean? I don't say that. You just speak them or you don't
1:19:45
And I don't speak French, so what did your mom say in the text? Okay, first of all, I wasn't making this a competition
1:19:51
I was just saying I speak five languages. You came out with the, oh, I speak six languages
1:19:57
That's not how I sounded, but okay, I'm glad the keyboard understands me better than you
1:20:01
That's how I hear you. What did your mom say? What did my mom say
1:20:05
My mom says, don't worry about it. As I was saying, I speak five languages, and your phone switches languages wherever you do
1:20:16
Without having to adjust your settings or type it out manually, just speak as you normally would, and the Pixel just does the rest
1:20:22
Joel, what did your mom say, bro? This guy. We're live. I'm going to wait
1:20:27
Oh, my goodness. This is embarrassing. She says that we should be best friends, so she gets to see you more often
1:20:35
Oh. Oh. And a note to self, never text your mom when you're on a live show
1:20:40
I love this, man, that's beautiful. Mind if I respond real quick? Yeah, go ahead, go ahead, get it. All right
1:20:46
Oh my God, mom. Tu m'as complètement embarrassé devant Trevor. Mais c'est pas grave
1:20:51
I'll call you later. Je t'aime. Sorry about that. Oh, that's beautiful
1:20:57
I heard je t'aime, so I know I love you, but what else did you say
1:21:01
Oh, man, I feel like you just came here to just put me on the spot today, huh? No, I want to know what you said
1:21:05
You brought me into text. I'm going to want to know what they say. That's fair. Check this out
1:21:11
Translate this into English. Oh, wow. Okay. No, that's, that's, that's great
1:21:19
Oh, my God, Mom, you completely embarrassed me in front of Trevor, but it's okay
1:21:24
I'll call you later. I love him. Oh, my goodness. I'm never doing this again. This is dope, man
1:21:28
What are you talking? Yo, that really works. That's fair. So, wherever you're speaking in different languages
1:21:35
or fool-frying thoughts, clearly your Pixel just gets you. Incroyable! Are you kidding me
1:21:41
Thanks so much, Bestie. Shout out to your mom as well. This is really dope, man. What a full circle moment
1:21:46
That's a great surprise. Thank you, Joel. All right, now, to show you another way
1:21:52
Gemini Intelligence on Pixel makes everyday conversations easier, please welcome Annie, joined by award-winning Broadway
1:21:58
and film director and film actor, Daniel Durant. Thanks so much, Trevor
1:22:17
I spend my days working with teams across Google to build products for everyone from all different backgrounds
1:22:23
We been working on a new capability called Sign2Text that lets your pixel understand American Sign Language We developing it with the deaf and hard of hearing community and it in its early days but you can now use ASL to write chat or even prompt Gemini right from the keyboard
1:22:39
in those moments when you may not have an interpreter with you. Luckily, my new friend, Daniel Durant, is here to show us how it all works right on your pixel
1:22:48
So let's dive into the demo. Hey, Daniel. It's so great to see you
1:22:54
and I'd love to learn more about your work as an actor. How do you connect so deeply with the audience
1:22:59
and what role does language play in that connection? Thank you for having me here
1:23:21
As an actor, the best way to share feelings is through ASL
1:23:26
I rely on the raw expression of ASL and human connection. Yes, that raw connection is everything
1:23:40
And technology should capture that, not flatten it. It lets you communicate in your native language without anything getting lost in translation
1:23:51
Many people don't realize that ASL is my first language
1:24:09
Therefore, when I act, read, or type, it requires ASL translation in my mind
1:24:16
Totally. I grew up in a multilingual household, And when learning a new language, I know there's that constant mental translation
1:24:24
It's why we want your keyboard to understand how you communicate. What I see so far is a good start
1:24:48
This phone understands my one-handed and two-handed signing, and it can recognize my facial expressions for grammar and tone
1:24:56
And what's this experience like for you? It helps me every day when I don't have an interpreter
1:25:20
I don't worry about how I can communicate. I can just be myself and fully express myself naturally, like I am doing now
1:25:28
And that's what technology at its best should do. Let you just be yourself
1:25:33
Thank you so much for being here with us today. I'm honored to be here
1:25:49
This demo is great, and I'm excited about the impact this technology will have on the world
1:25:58
And that's how it works. Sign to Text is available today for American Sign Language
1:26:09
with more sign languages coming in the future. So we've talked about how Pixel can help us connect
1:26:14
avoid distractions, and take things off our plate. Next, let's see how Pixel Watch helped one man find his stride again
1:26:21
running for me it's something that i was never able to do as a kid
1:26:30
i was three and that's when they first discovered a congenital heart block
1:26:35
every other kid played t-ball and these bonding moments i missed out on those but as an adult i
1:26:42
got a new pacemaker and for the first time in my life i could run i never planned to start a run
1:26:49
club it just kind of happened one day my wife and i both happened to have the day off of work and we
1:26:53
said let's go to the hollywood bowl and run the stairs come on buttercup almost there almost there
1:26:57
it just snowballed and now it's a run club with over a hundred people what's going on man if you
1:27:04
hear my voice clap twice it's the people that i love and the friends that i've made over the years
1:27:10
that really mean a lot to me do those push-ups well but a year ago i didn't know if i'd ever run
1:27:16
those steps again. I was sitting on the couch and that is like the last clear memory I have
1:27:26
When you survive a cardiac arrest, the hardest part about coming back isn't the physical
1:27:31
it's the mental. I thought Saturday Stairs was over and the thought of losing that was really
1:27:36
hard on me. I have medical devices and doctors to help me with my heart, but I wanted that extra
1:27:42
peace of mind. And after a lot of research, I picked up the Pixel Watch. Being able to keep an
1:27:47
eye on my sleep and my activity habits has been huge. And having features like fall detection
1:27:51
anywhere I go helps give me that extra peace of mind. And it tells me my readiness score
1:27:57
so it lets me know if I'm ready to do another hard workout. Returning to Saturday Stairs was
1:28:01
almost like I won the Super Bowl. I didn't grow up an athlete. To have these people that turn
1:28:06
around and tell me that I'm the one that motivates them, it's really amazing. The Pixel Watch has
1:28:11
completely put me back in doing the things that I really love doing with my friends, my wife
1:28:16
and now my son too. It's taken me back to the person I was before my accident
1:28:34
Hello, everyone. I'm Svendik, and I lead the wearables team at Google. Today's announcements
1:28:40
bring medicine and technology together in a big way, so we need a real doctor
1:28:45
For that, I'm here with my colleague, Dr. Jacqueline Shrabadi. Thanks, Sandeep. I am absolutely thrilled to be here today
1:28:53
I'm a practicing cardiologist, and I lead our clinical team at Google
1:28:57
And together, we're building state-of-the-art tools designed to make it easier to stay on top of your health and wellness
1:29:03
Today, we are extremely excited to announce new Health Guardian features on Pixel Watch 5
1:29:10
It's a breakthrough set of features designed to give you more visibility into some of the biggest health issues
1:29:16
Insulin resistance trends, blood pressure trends, and breathing emergency detection. Health Guardian features can help you catch the subtle shifts in your health before they escalate into bigger issues
1:29:28
and protect you during emergencies when it matters most. And all of this works in the background, giving you the peace of mind to live your life
1:29:36
So now, and you want to hear this, Pixel Watch 5 is the first and the only smart watch to
1:29:42
track insulin resistance trends, and it's a big deal. It's a big deal
1:29:47
It is monumental for your metabolism. Insulin resistance is the earliest sign that your body is struggling to pull energy from
1:29:55
food and 40% of adults live with it without ever knowing. It's a true industry first, representing 10 years of work, training our foundational models on more than a billion minutes of clinical data
1:30:07
And we have published our research in top tier scientific journals. Having those insights means you can catch changes early and make simple shifts in your day, like taking a walk after dinner
1:30:18
Absolutely. Another crucial health signal we are adding this year, your Pixel Watch will now help you track your blood pressure trends
1:30:26
Yes, blood pressure is one of the most important health signals, but it's a signal you can't always feel
1:30:33
I see so many patients in clinic who had no idea theirs had crept up
1:30:37
And now Pixel Watch is giving you the heart health insights you need to make those informed daily choices
1:30:43
Together, insulin resistance and blood pressure trends act as a check engine light for your body
1:30:49
a heads up that maybe some extra maintenance is required. On the other side of the spectrum, we are also developing features that give you the peace of mind about the unexpected
1:30:59
Pixel Watch still is the only smartwatch that can detect loss of pulse and contact emergency services on your behalf
1:31:07
And now it becomes the first and only smartwatch with breathing emergency detection
1:31:13
When someone stops breathing normally from something like choking, a drug toxicity event, or severe pneumonia
1:31:20
Every single second counts. Pixel Watch 5 can detect when your oxygen levels drop too low
1:31:26
call emergency services, and share your location. Think of it like an airbag on your wrist
1:31:31
It's there for the most critical emergencies. It's coming first to Europe and more countries soon
1:31:37
Ultimately, our Health Guardian features are about giving you the insights you need
1:31:42
to find that peace of mind. Absolutely. That peace of mind is so valuable
1:31:47
which is why insulin resistance and blood pressure trends are also coming to the new Fitbit Air
1:31:53
our thinnest and lightest health wearable yet. So, loss of pulse, breathing emergency detection, insulin resistance, and blood pressure trends
1:32:03
all in a single smartwatch. Together, Pixel Watch 5 is the most comprehensive smartwatch to track your health and wellness
1:32:11
Next, let's talk about how Pixel Watch can take your workouts to the next level
1:32:16
Here's Noah and Olympian Shari Hawkins. Thanks, Sandeep
1:32:30
I'm Noah, and I am thrilled to be joined today by U.S. Olympian Shari Hawkins
1:32:35
Hi, Noah. Hi, guys. I'm so excited to be here with you guys
1:32:41
So interestingly enough, I have actually been with Fitbit and using a Fitbit since 2021, even before making an Olympic team
1:32:50
And Google wearables are so important to my training today. That is amazing to hear. Now, we build wearables that are for everyone
1:32:57
But obviously, you're an Olympian with a whole team of coaches. So how does a device like Pixel Watch help you improve your training
1:33:04
OK, so I didn't make the team in 2016 and then I just missed it again at the 2020 Olympics
1:33:10
So once I started training with a Fitbit in 2021, I knew what changes I needed to make to my training
1:33:18
And making those changes, that's what's actually made me make the Olympic team in 2024 on my third attempt at 33 years old
1:33:27
which actually makes me one of the oldest American heptathletes to ever compete at the Olympics
1:33:33
Wow. Yeah. No, it really is such a confidence to know exactly what you're doing so that you can remain, like, strong and competitive
1:33:44
Yeah, that confidence is so important, and it's why with Pixel Watch we're obsessed with pro-level precision
1:33:50
Yeah. Take heart rate. Our heart rate accuracy is actually on the level of a chest trap, which leaves more accurate insights into your activity, your recovery, and your vitals
1:33:59
No, I really can't emphasize enough how important accurate data is for me
1:34:03
So during my career, I have made a USA team by a single centimeter
1:34:09
So that's what we mean when we say that every 1% counts. It really does
1:34:13
Using data from my wrist, it really helps me strike that precision between training and recovery
1:34:20
Yeah, and recovery is everything. Yeah. And a lot of that comes down to great sleep
1:34:25
That's actually why we upgraded Pixel Watch 5 with our most accurate sleep tracking yet when compared to clinical gold standards
1:34:31
Yeah. I mean, I talk about recovery with my coaches before every single practice
1:34:35
And, okay, so I have six coaches, which is such a privilege
1:34:40
But sometimes I really do need fast and quick answers, and that's when I ask my Google Health coach
1:34:46
And now when I walk into practice, I mean, my coaches and I, we're working with even better insights
1:34:51
Yeah, I love that. And that's honestly the best part. The Google Health coach adapts to you, and it adapts to your life too
1:34:58
Like just the other day, the coach noticed that I didn't get great sleep, which isn't surprising
1:35:02
I've got a newborn at home. But it was also a super hot day. I was set to go out for a long run
1:35:07
And the coach put that all together and was able to proactively change out my workout for some indoor yoga instead
1:35:13
And honestly, it was exactly what I needed to recover and stay cool
1:35:17
No, honestly, I changed my recovery and my routines all the time
1:35:22
Because I'm always asking myself, okay, how do I get better? How do I get faster
1:35:25
And the answer is not always going to be more running. I mean, for me, strength training is huge
1:35:30
You want to build that power, but you also want to prevent injury. Totally. And everyone can benefit from strength training, but it can be so hard to know where to start
1:35:39
Yeah. But the Google Health Coach can actually practically build strength workouts that are tailored to you
1:35:44
Actually, let's check this out. This morning, I asked the coach to build me a 30-minute workout that I could do in my hotel gym with just dumbbells. Wow
1:35:53
And it built a workout that's completely personalized to me. It set my sets, reps, weights
1:35:58
It even remembered that I have a shoulder injury and selected exercises that were safe for that too
1:36:03
So I can click to start the workout. And that doesn't just begin it on the phone
1:36:07
It actually will automatically start it on my Pixel Watch 5 as well. And once the workout begins, I can actually see helpful information like how to do the exercise correctly with form guidance
1:36:18
details on how to get the most out of it. I can see my reps, weight
1:36:23
I can even see my live heart rates. I mean, 137. I'm next to an Olympian
1:36:29
Let's hide that. Are you doing a heptathlon? Let's just scroll away from that
1:36:33
Okay. All right. But look, I can see what workouts are ahead. And if the equipment's busy, I can even snap to a different exercise instead
1:36:41
No, I love that you can also see it on your watch. Because if we're being honest, I don't know about everybody else
1:36:45
But I catch myself scrolling when I'm on my phone. And I don't want to do that
1:36:50
I want to stay in the moment. I want to keep my intensity up. And so being able to have strength coaching on my watch, I mean, that is going to keep me in my workout
1:36:58
Totally. And because it started the exercise in my Pixel Watch 5 as well, I can easily get information, log reps and weights, and get guidance between sets and rests as well
1:37:09
Okay. And here's another cool thing that my watch does. So usually running in the city, it wreaks havoc on my route tracking
1:37:14
But this morning, I actually went on a run. I had absolutely no problems. That's no accident
1:37:19
Do you mind if I nerd out here for a sec? I love nerds. Keep going
1:37:22
Let's go. Pixel Watch 5 will soon deliver our most accurate route tracking yet It twice as accurate compared to the previous generation And so many wearables connect to GPS satellites but only Pixel Watch uses the technology behind Google Maps
1:37:36
to trace those satellite signals through 3D models of buildings to triangulate your precise location
1:37:43
But it goes even further. It actually pulls data from networks of weather stations
1:37:47
to correct for any errors from atmospheric conditions too. And when you put that all together, it's not just twice as accurate
1:37:54
It outperforms the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and the Garmin Fenix 8 Pro
1:38:01
Okay, see? Okay, so this is why I've been a user for so long
1:38:05
Okay, so we've got super accurate GPS. We've got the heart rate tracking. We've got strength training on your wrist
1:38:10
And then we have Google Health Coach. I mean, Pixel Watch, it's working just as hard as I am
1:38:14
Yep, that's Pixel Watch. It's a smart watch so precise it helps everyone from new dads like me to Olympians like Shari Hawkins
1:38:22
It's been an honor. Thank you so much for joining us today. Shari Hawkins, everybody
1:38:29
Now let's hear from another Olympian, our very own performance advisor, Stephen Curry
1:38:35
As Google performance advisor, I have one simple mission, to help everyone have access to world-class health and fitness resources
1:38:41
The goal is to fit everything into this. Dad? Oh, hey, sorry, Steph
1:38:47
I just wanted to see if you wanted to grab breakfast. Actually, let's test this out on the guy that still thinks he's in his prom. Right, Dad
1:38:57
Oh, no, no, no, no. I'm good over here. Thanks. Oh, no, we're doing this
1:39:05
We created a custom workout routine and synced it right to your watch
1:39:09
Old school? Come on, man. How about the originator? All right, then prove it
1:39:14
Yeah. Solid form. Yes, sir. Starting to see the shakes. First time ever. I'm not a fan of yours
1:39:20
That core activator. Come on, man. Mmm. Oh. Oh. Thought you kept me slowing down, huh
1:39:28
Your pace is kind of hot, actually. I taught you how to pace yourself, remember? You can just tap to change the weight
1:39:34
Come on, get them right. Woo. Let me know if you need a spotter
1:39:41
Not bad, not bad at all, Pops. Workouts have changed, but they still get the job done
1:39:45
I know your jersey's in the rafters, but you never start working on your health. That's right
1:39:49
Pretty impressive. Surprised? I still got some left in the tank. Bad originator
1:40:12
What's up, Made by Google? How's everyone doing? Okay, so I have been Team Pixel for over a year now
1:40:21
I love the camera, the design, and all of the Gemini stuff that makes me feel like I am 10 steps ahead
1:40:28
even on the days where I'm barely holding it together, okay? But honestly, I was really nervous to switch
1:40:35
We love to pretend that switching is logical. It is never logical
1:40:40
I have sat across from enough people on Call Her Daddy to know that change is really emotional every single time
1:40:47
People stay in the wrong relationship, the wrong job, the wrong city
1:40:51
the wrong hairstylist for years because the alternative, it feels unfamiliar. Not because it's worse. It just, it feels different, right
1:41:03
So let's actually unpack that fear for a second because I switched and I am standing here to tell you I'm doing great, guys
1:41:11
I'm doing great. No eight episode arc that we got to get through. We're all good
1:41:16
So to walk through the tech that actually makes switching this easy, please welcome a Googler out here to help me
1:41:24
Jake, get in here. Hi, Jake. Good to be here. I'm very excited
1:41:34
Okay. We got to role play. I am going to pretend that I'm thinking about switching to a pixel, but I'm scared, right
1:41:43
I'm spiraling a little bit. I'm convinced that my photos, they're going to disappear
1:41:47
My group chats will turn against me. And obviously, I'm never going to remember any of my logins
1:41:54
And what is life going to be? Talk me down. Okay, first, deep breaths
1:41:58
Okay. It is easy to take your life with you to a new Pixel, easier than ever before
1:42:05
And many people might not know this, but we worked with Apple this year to upgrade the transfer process
1:42:10
So things like your photos, your videos, your text message history, eSIMs, Wi-Fi credentials, and even the big one, your passwords and logins automatically move over with you
1:42:21
Okay. So what you're basically saying is I'm not starting a new life under a complete new identity
1:42:27
No witness protection required. Okay. And my group chats survived? Group chats survived
1:42:34
What about my photos? Did they survive? Those survived, too. Yeah. Even the 4,000 stupid screenshots that I probably will never look at again, but just want to know they're there
1:42:43
Yeah, sorry about that, but those will stay too. When it's time to upgrade, it's super easy to start moving over things for your phone
1:42:52
We even built a shortcut for you. Okay, we love a shortcut. Tell me. Yeah, so when you order your new Pixel online, you'll get a link
1:42:59
And with a couple of tabs, you can start moving your photos and videos over with Google Photos
1:43:03
Wow, okay. So everything is there waiting for you, all of your memories, once you get on your new phone
1:43:09
Okay, that sounds more organized than literally any move I've ever made in my life
1:43:13
So this is great. This is really good. Yeah, and don't worry. Unlike moving on from a bad relationship, you don't have to delete anything from your phone
1:43:21
Zero risk, zero stress. Okay, Jake. Okay. And again, zero stress about group chats, too
1:43:28
Exactly. That old, he's a 10, but he's a green bubble meme, so dead
1:43:33
Oh, I love that. Yeah, now your group chats, they move and work just as you would expect them to
1:43:40
You can add emoji reactions, see typing indicators. You can even name your group chat Daddy Gang, just like you would
1:43:47
And constantly, we're adding new features to make group chats even better. Okay, now I have to ask for everyone and myself, what about location sharing, right
1:43:56
Because that's not just about convenience. It's about safety at this point
1:44:00
That is knowing that your friend got home safely. That is finding your child or, you know, if you left your phone in the back of a cab
1:44:08
And I'm not obviously speaking from personal experience, but just, you know, go with me. Yeah, that's easy
1:44:13
We got you. So your iOS friends, they can share their location with you through Google Maps
1:44:18
Which you already have on your phone anyways. And look, I think creators and artists can agree, obviously, we rely on AirDrop for sharing files
1:44:28
Yeah, I know that's a really important one to you. It also works on Pixel
1:44:32
So we call it Quick Share, and it's built right into your phone
1:44:36
It uses Bluetooth to see nearby devices, and the big one, it works with MacBooks and iPhones, too
1:44:43
So you can send and receive photos and videos just like you would with AirDrop
1:44:48
So data transfers, check. Group chats, check. Photos, files, and location sharing, check
1:44:53
Okay that all the checks I need And that was a killer pitch Jake Thank you very much I feel like we did our work here We crushed it So I think now it time to please welcome to the stage Trevor and Rick
1:45:06
They can take it from here. Alex Cooper and Jake, everyone. That was a lot of fun
1:45:18
Rick, I'm not going to lie. This has been pretty amazing. I didn't break anything
1:45:23
Well, lucky that. Well, you know, Trevor, today we've seen that you should ask more of your devices because you can get so much more
1:45:33
A phone that can actually take things off your plate and give you peace of mind
1:45:38
Simple new ways to focus on what's important to you so you can be in the moment
1:45:42
And powerful new tools for healthier living and reaching your potential. Yeah, I'm not going to lie
1:45:48
I'm excited to go back now and then try all of the new features that we spoke about. Great. And by the way, we put together a surprise for you before we go. I know you're a huge soccer, maybe call it football fan. What's your favorite team
1:46:01
Liverpool. Why? Well, let me tell you, when you're on Team Pixel and you're a Liverpool fan, you'll never walk alone
1:46:11
Wait, either that's Gemini putting on a Scouse accent Or it's Liverpool legend Stephen Gerrard
1:46:20
Please let it not be Gemini Please let it not be Gemini Please let it not be Gemini
1:46:24
You're Stephen Gerrard! Woo! What? Oh! Happy birthday to me
1:46:35
Stephen Gerrard, I know this might not be the time nor the place
1:46:39
I have a question I've been wanting to ask you my entire life. So we have a pickup game that we play five-a-side in Brooklyn
1:46:47
and we need a goalkeeper. I would offer you midfield, but there can't be two Trevor Noahs in the midfield
1:46:53
so can you jump? We can go straight from here. We can ride a city bike and be there. Have you seen me playing goal
1:46:58
I'll watch you in any position. I can't believe this. Steven Jarrett. But for real, what are you doing here
1:47:02
Didn't you hear the news? Rick, go ahead and tell him. All right
1:47:06
Well, some of the top clubs in the world, Liverpool, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, FC Bayern, and FC Barcelona are now on Team Pixel
1:47:16
Lots of football fans here, I guess. Yeah. They're also alongside the WNBA and F1's McLaren
1:47:29
And these clubs, yes. These clubs. You've really got football fans here
1:47:38
Well, these clubs are getting the best of Pixel and Gemini, and aren't they excited
1:47:44
And you're getting even closer to your favorite clubs and athletes. Watch exclusive pitch-side videos and locker room POVs
1:47:52
And check out the new club wallpapers. And Pixel will be bringing custom theme packs, too
1:47:58
so you can bring your favorite club right to your phone. Let's roll
1:48:06
Let's roll the tape, guys. All right, let's do it. Thank you
1:48:39
When I feel every metal When I feel that I'm metal Come on, yeah
1:48:49
All right, everybody. We are just about wrapped on Made by Google 2026
1:48:57
Thank you so much to our amazing guests. Thank you to you for tuning in. Thank you, everyone, for joining us live here in the studio
1:49:03
We appreciate you. Thank you to the Googlers for making this possible. Before we go, the Pixel team has one more live demo for you
1:49:11
We have a very special musical guest to close the show, and we are filming this performance entirely
1:49:19
on the all-new Pixel 11 Pro. You don't believe me? Check it out
1:49:24
Go to that camera, see what this camera's doing. You see that? This is our camera reader, Frank... Franco
1:49:28
Say, what's up, to Franco, everybody. Say, hi, Franco. Yeah, that's right
1:49:32
Uh, now, I'm gonna need everybody to make some noise for the one and only Pink Pantheress
1:49:55
Hello? I'll be like, do you know, okay
1:50:08
Okay, I'll tell you what, though. My name is Kink and I'm really glad to meet you
1:50:14
You're recommended to me by some people. Hi! It feels illegal. Hi
1:50:22
It feels illegal. I've suffered quite a few times with paranoia. I'm watching him with her now, and I should call ya
1:50:31
Hey! He's 24, ya. We get high around the corner One, not the one, now you're sitting on my bed
1:50:40
That later on, we can talk on it instead Tear into one, now you're sitting on my bed
1:50:47
That later on, like a bullshit in my head For me, again, then my head looks like he needs to
1:50:54
And maybe next time, I'll tell my girl come deep I like the fact that we don't communicate, boy
1:51:01
As long as she don't tell her your best mates One after one, now you're sitting on my bed
1:51:07
That made her own, we could talk on it and stand Tear into one, now you're sitting on my bed
1:51:14
That made her own, my girl's shame in my head One after one, now you're sitting on my bed
1:51:23
Tear into one, now you're sitting on my bed My name is Pink and I'm really glad to meet you
1:51:35
You're recommended to me by some people I think it's worked enough now to reach the both of us
1:51:43
So tell me why my heartbeat is in a rush Is this what you go
1:51:56
Hey! It feels illegal Pink Pampers, everybody
1:52:06
Well, that does it for Made by Google 2026 Thank you so much for watching
1:52:10
Good night so I going to go to the next episode of the show
1:52:54
Thank you
1:53:24
Welcome back to all things mobile and our live coverage of made by Google
1:53:36
You just watched Trevor Noah, Rick Osterle, and a whole bunch of people talk about a lot of stuff
1:53:40
I'm Iyaz Akhtar with PCMag, and joining me are my colleagues Andrew Gebhardt
1:53:45
Abraar Al-Headeh, and David Lum will be with us shortly. We'll be talking about everything we saw
1:53:50
Okay, so, all right. I'm going to pretend that my son made that whole presentation
1:53:56
So I'm going to be very positive. It might sound strange, but I'm going to try to make this work
1:54:01
But let's start with you, Barbara. We've watched this thing. We all watched this together
1:54:08
What did you think of the presentation? Did you see anything that was, oh, that was a great feature
1:54:12
I think the ASL live demo was quite interesting. What did you think
1:54:19
I think Trevor Noah was the perfect host for this. if you're going to do that fun, casual, late night vibe, he was the right guy. I feel like he brought
1:54:26
just enough cynicism without, he said at one point, I don't want to bring the stock price down. And I
1:54:32
think he did a really good job of towing that line of like having humor without degrading anything
1:54:37
I was, the thing that I was kind of reflecting on is, you know, with these kinds of things
1:54:43
live demos are few and far between, but I do love seeing them. The ASL feature that you mentioned is
1:54:48
one of the coolest things that I heard about during the briefings. I'm really, really excited about features like that that are practical
1:54:54
and to have seen that in real time was really cool. Even Magic Capture being an actual shot out, you know, on a basketball court
1:55:03
where people were trying it out in real time was really, really neat. So one of those things that you're like, Apple would never do this
1:55:08
because their keynotes have become so polished, and just keynotes in general have become so polished
1:55:12
So I really liked the vibe. I thought it was great. It was easier to pay attention
1:55:17
Listen, I think we're all tired. It's the end of the day. And if you're going to try to keep people's attention, you've got to have somebody who's funny
1:55:22
and you've got to have live demos, and you've got to have a lot of movement. And I think they had all those elements
1:55:27
Andrew, what did you think about all the Pixel Watch coverage? Because they discussed basically tons of health features that made the Pixel Watch sound as important
1:55:36
as basically what Apple says about their watch, that it'll help you with your health
1:55:40
If you're injured or hurt, it's going to alert authorities. You can be saved by a Pixel Watch
1:55:45
What did you think? Yeah. The Pixel Watch is basically a superhero now. So that's pretty cool that it's maybe it'll join the MCU or something. No, I genuinely that insulin resistance thing is it could be incredibly cool for anybody who wants to like check on their diet, check on their health, like passively in the background
1:56:08
Um, um, notice with that, they never said the word diabetes. Um, and you know, because they want to, they want to toe the line very carefully there
1:56:18
between being like an actual device on your health and, uh, you know, just being like a
1:56:25
general wellness thing, because you need a lot more regulatory clearance. If you're actually saying you're monitoring for this or that
1:56:34
And almost all of Google's fine print is like, yeah, yeah, we're going to check this for
1:56:38
you, but if you suspect that there's any actual thing, go see your doctor. That said, if their AI
1:56:46
is smart enough to like, let you know, Hey, you might want to specifically go see your doctor and
1:56:52
check this out. That would be such a cool tool to have for people who are developing insulin
1:56:59
resistance, who might still be able to take active steps before they would get an actual diagnosis
1:57:04
That would be incredible. And then also there's the breathing emergency thing. So, and again
1:57:11
there's stipulations here. The breathing emergency won't detect chronic issues. So it won't detect
1:57:20
if you have asthma or problems there. And it's meant to be like trigger on a sudden event. So
1:57:28
you know, a drug overdose or some kind of an accident or something like that occurs
1:57:33
still, I mean, as somebody who occasionally suffers from asthma, I'm a little bit bummed
1:57:38
that it doesn't do that. At the same time, if I'm wheezing, I don't want my watch to start calling
1:57:43
911. So maybe that's better. But I do like the idea of it. And insulin resistance is really unique
1:57:51
The other one, blood pressure resistance isn't as unique. Samsung has a similar thing
1:57:57
but it's a little bit of a pain. You have to set it up with a separate cuff, but you can take
1:58:02
active readings and Apple has hypertension notifications, um, which operate in the background
1:58:09
similar to Google. So other companies are getting started there, but I'm really excited to see if
1:58:14
insulin resistance can work as intended. And I think all of this stuff together. Yeah. Okay
1:58:20
Watch superhero, like the Google pixel watch five MCU project. I don't know if I'd watch that movie
1:58:27
but maybe if Trevor Noah was in it, I could be good. Yeah. So, I mean, Google talked a lot about
1:58:33
how accurate the GPS was on the Watch 5. They discussed how Gemini intelligence is all over
1:58:39
the phone. It can do stuff for you. It can go ahead and basically pre-fill your texts with
1:58:45
answers based on the conversations. And Google did actually discuss privacy in a section of that
1:58:52
show we just watched. You may have fallen asleep during it because there was a gentleman who talked
1:58:57
about it and he just kind of spat out how privacy is important and google is good with that and
1:59:02
everything else abrar google is not exactly known to be um privacy first and considering all of the
1:59:10
data that makes gemini and gemini intelligence and the watch all this stuff to work you have to have
1:59:15
a lot of trust do you think that google did enough of a job to tell people including ios people
1:59:21
that, hey, we're safe over here. You can come to Google. What do you think
1:59:26
I think the advantage that Google has is so many of us already use
1:59:30
all these Google platforms, right? A lot of us are on Gmail. We've got G Drive loaded up
1:59:34
with all our information. So they're tapping into that, right? So if you open up a message
1:59:40
and someone asks about your flight and it can quickly pull up that information
1:59:44
from your Gmail, me personally, I'm going to say, you know what? It's already in my Gmail
1:59:48
I might as well have it surfaced in messages so I don't have to go dig for that thing. I think things like that can be a nice perk
1:59:54
a nice thing to have. I also think the idea of privacy in 2020
1:59:59
is delicate, right? It's almost non-existent in a lot of ways. But I think all of these tech
2:00:07
companies will always dedicate a portion of these keynotes and countless blogs to detailing how they
2:00:13
maintain the privacy of your data, how everything's safe. But the reality is, yeah, if you are using
2:00:19
these AI features, it's going to access a lot of your personal information, which again, might
2:00:23
already be on a Google platform anyway. So to me, it's like me personally, this is a decision you
2:00:28
have to make on your own. But for me personally, it's like, hey, it's already there. So it might as well make my life easier
2:00:33
and pull that information. I'm being told we're joined by Nina Raymont
2:00:37
who was at the event. Nina, are you there? I'm here. Hello. Hi
2:00:46
So what did you think of the show when you were there live? It must have been just riveting
2:00:52
Yes, I saw many stars. I even saw a performance by Pink Pantherist
2:00:58
And the live show itself is very predictable. It's the lives that we got this morning
2:01:05
And there was a big prioritization on getting your phone to do more for you so you can stay off of it more
2:01:17
And, of course, because I cover health and wearables, I was also excited to see that there were several features on the Pixel Watch that I'm looking forward to using
2:01:28
specifically the new weight training experience that's coming soon to the Pixel Watch
2:01:35
as well as some more health features like an insulin resistance feature and a blood pressure patterns feature
2:01:46
I wanted to ask you because I think I've noticed an AirPod in your ear. When Google talked about switching, they acted like it was you were changing your life and everything was ending
2:01:56
and you were basically going from your regular life to the upside down. From what you saw there with Alex Cooper and whomever
2:02:07
what did you think about this pitch to get iPhone users to move over to Pixel
2:02:15
I'm curious if that's actually going to happen, if iPhone users are going to switch from their phones to the Pixel phones
2:02:25
I think that they make a pretty good offering by saying, hey, you're going to keep your group chats together
2:02:32
Your photos, all your screenshots are also going to stay as they are on your new phone
2:02:40
I do wonder, though, even with all these upgrades and improvements, the iPhones will always just be a very popular phone
2:02:49
Um, and, and I wonder if even having Alex Earle or Cooper, I don't know, they're the same person to me
2:02:58
Um, even having Alex Cooper come out and like, and say these things, whether or not it's going to influence that type of girl who owns an iPhone, who loves her iPhone, who loves her blue bubbles, if that's really going to change that girl's mind
2:03:14
Yeah, it was quite odd, I think. I know they're trying to push it, and I did a video about
2:03:21
this. Google has about 4.6% of the market, and Apple has a lot more than that. So if
2:03:27
they want to eat Apple's lunch, they're going to have to try this way. Anita, you got any
2:03:31
last words from your experience at the event? What would I say about this? I'll say it was nice to be there and see the magic behind
2:03:44
And it's cool to know that they were filming Pink Panther's performance on one of these Pixel phones
2:03:52
Yeah, I look forward to testing out the watch itself and seeing just how well my recovery score and the accuracy of the DPS and all of these things that I promoted today
2:04:05
whether it will actually be a reasonable change that I can see and experience in my day-to-day
2:04:16
One last question I wanted to ask. Do you think that Pink Pantherist was lip-syncing or singing
2:04:21
You were there. Okay. I think she was singing. I think she was singing
2:04:26
I think she has some sort of technology that she uses. And she was really displeased with the crowd
2:04:32
I think she was like laughing to herself because nobody was really excited
2:04:39
There's just like a lot of tech people who probably don't even know who she is. In another world, I would have been like jumping up and down in my seat
2:04:47
And in this scenario, I was also part of this crowd that was kind of silent and not really giving her what she needed
2:04:55
So yeah, she had a good performance. I don't know if this was the crowd to receive it
2:05:00
Well, thank you very much, Nina. That was a great report from the scene. I mean, I'm one of those tech people who just found out who this person was. So the other part about the show that's strange is they invite a bunch of tech journalists and some influencers at this point. And you're not really supposed to be cheering and clapping and acting like, you know, you're a shill for Google. So I don't really know how often they're going to keep doing this with reporters in the audience
2:05:28
I want to talk about our poll. We had a poll up. It was, what was the biggest disappointment from
2:05:36
the show? A, the Pixel 11. B, the Pixel 11 Pro and Excel. C, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Or D
2:05:44
the lack of Jimmy Fallon. All right, let's put up those results right now. And 34% of you thought
2:05:52
the 11 Pro and XL was the biggest disappointment. 31% of you are funny
2:05:58
You're very funny. The biggest disappointment was the lack of Jimmy Fallon. So good for you, and I'm glad you're watching
2:06:05
And okay. 19% of you got the Pixel Pro Fold, and very few people were disappointed with the Pixel 11
2:06:13
So this is one wacky show when it came to this. There were some comments all over the place
2:06:20
Somebody mentioned notification LEDs making a comeback. When will the aux jack do the same
2:06:26
Now, we neglected to discuss the highlight feature that Google wanted to explain how great it is
2:06:32
And Trevor Noah accidentally exposed that you can't use it for everything and picking special colors
2:06:39
Abra, you've played with this. You've seen the highlight feature. It's a little RGB inside the flash
2:06:46
You get five color options that you can choose. What do you think about this I was thinking about I was reflecting on this yesterday and I thought if I had my phone down face down right next to me would a flashing light prevent me from you know
2:07:02
would it be like, oh, this is a color I want to answer? No, I think at the end of the day, the phone needs to be in another room for me not to
2:07:08
touch it. If my phone is even face down next to me, I will flip it over and check my Instagram notifications
2:07:13
So I'm going to need much more serious intervention to prevent myself from checking my phone
2:07:18
But maybe if you're normal and you're a little bit more balanced in your tech lifestyle
2:07:23
then having those notification lights flash will prevent you from checking your phone when you don't have to
2:07:32
Andrew, I got to try this out. I just want to tell you how this went. So it turns out that you can have the highlight working if you favorite the contact
2:07:42
Then the highlight option shows up in your contacts and you can choose one of the colors that they give you
2:07:47
There is no way to choose from a color picker, like all the colors in the world
2:07:51
You get five or six. Trevor mentioned putting a red notice for all the red flag people
2:07:56
First, he would have to mark them as favorites. Then he'd have to get a color that doesn't exist
2:08:02
Andrew, is this going to push people towards like a glyph or a second screen on the back
2:08:07
Do you think you would allow the light to not touch your phone
2:08:12
Will that be enough for you to go, okay, that's fine. I see what they're going for and I'm kind of here for it, right? Like, okay. So Google's assuming
2:08:23
that you have this phone, you have your contacts loaded in and the people that you care about are
2:08:28
already labeled as favorites. They're sort of assuming that the legwork you just laid out
2:08:32
already done. So then adding a color to those folks of like, okay, I'm assuming if I'm turning
2:08:40
my phone face down, that means I don't want to be interrupted unless. And I can imagine myself
2:08:47
picking a color for the folks who would qualify for that unless and having that show up for me
2:08:54
At the same time, I don't know. I'd notice it. So like if it's the evening and I'm sitting down
2:09:03
to play video games with my friends and I don't want to be bugged by anything, like, is that
2:09:07
going to draw my attention away from whatever match I'm playing. I don't know
2:09:12
I don't know if it's enough. And then otherwise, if I'm not in a mode where I don't want to be disturbed, I don't think
2:09:19
I'd even have my phone upside down to begin with. But I get what they're going for
2:09:24
It's a bummer. I can't use the color red. It seems pretty limited
2:09:31
But it's, I don't know. In terms of gimmicks, it's harmless. It is harmless. I think that's a good way to put it. Like it could help. I think I just need a lot
2:09:42
more help than that. You know, I've got a lot to fix when it comes to my screaming addiction
2:09:48
And the company Nothing has tried this a lot with its glyphs. They have a series of LEDs. They are
2:09:53
not in a circle, but they're really cool looking actually. But the thing is, you'd have to learn
2:09:58
exactly how one of the glyphs or these patterns relate to the person you connected it to
2:10:03
But I'm thinking if you have your phone face down on your table, and you want to make sure you don't miss the highlight, aren't you looking more at the thing because it's smaller and it goes away faster than a notification on the front of your phone
2:10:19
So, like, I think it's going to have the opposite result. You're going to pay more attention to the phone because you might miss the highlight
2:10:28
This is the glyph from nothing, and you can see how it looks
2:10:32
It looks really neat. It's a very distinguished look. You're not going to see another phone like that
2:10:37
And it's a great idea, but I think it falls short generally
2:10:41
because it doesn't really solve a problem. I don't think this is a big issue we're having in real life yet
2:10:50
Oh, it did have, that's the glyph again showing the timer function. I thought that was pretty cool. But again, you can do that on the front
2:10:55
So what are you adding? It's automating that convenience though. So like if flipping the phone upside down, that turns it on
2:11:05
Do not disturb automatically. Then I can be like, okay, I need to concentrate on the thing
2:11:10
Let's say the event I'm flipping it upside down and then I put it in my peripheral vision
2:11:15
I might notice it might. I don't think this is going to be the superhero feature, but I think it could be like a handy sidekick
2:11:21
Like, I think this would be useful, but you're right. I still might miss it, but maybe if it's in the peripheral vision, I'd still notice the cool purple light
2:11:30
We've got David Lum on. Hey, we haven't heard what you think. So you saw this entire show
2:11:36
with us. We've been briefed on the Pixel stuff already. What did you make out of this? Is
2:11:41
the highlight the highlight of your show? Was Trevor Noah amazing? Do you trust Google
2:11:45
with all your information? My issue with the watch thing is, if any of that data goes to
2:11:50
like, I don't know, health insurance companies, that could be bad. That could be really bad
2:11:55
and they could mess with you. But that's a whole other issue with a much bigger problem. David, what did you think
2:12:01
I felt like these were sort of incremental upgrades. If it's been a few years, then maybe you want a new Pixel
2:12:07
The highlight was not a highlight. I think when we see Chinese phones with entire screens on the rear camera
2:12:16
in order to get a preview of a shot or something, a little LED light, which only has, what, five colors, is not doing it for me
2:12:25
That was cute probably a decade ago. So you know what? They're doing an LG thing of maybe there's a feature, a weird hardware feature that'll light somebody's fire, I guess, throwing spaghetti at a wall
2:12:40
It's just kind of disappointing to see a lot of tech possibilities
2:12:45
I don't know if there are any Asus ROG fans out there, but their phones, their bigger phones have had like really aggressive gamer lights, LEDs on the back for years
2:12:56
at least that was like doing something interesting. Anyway, we have new phones
2:13:01
and the cameras are what people are going to be talking about. I'm excited about those features, those AI features
2:13:07
You know, light me up if you want. But I think it's Google will stick to its strengths
2:13:13
with the software. So what about the cameras and the photography got your attention
2:13:19
Well, when I initially got briefed, I was a little snide about Magic Capture, I will say
2:13:25
And I'm no photographer, but I would turn to a few on our staff
2:13:30
including our mobile team, which is replete with pretty talented photographers, including our own Abra Al-Hiti, but especially Andrew Langston and Jeff Carlson
2:13:42
who I thought both would have immediate and visceral reaction My goodness like this is you know taking the authority out of my hands And instead it like no this is for you know stately recording your kids recital or or game or something when you haven had a lot of coffee and being able to have it pick out some pretty decent shots
2:14:06
This is not when you're shooting for the Pulitzer. This is for when you just want to make sure there's some serviceable action
2:14:14
And in between your fat fingering, maybe you don't capture the right moment
2:14:17
Hey, it'll capture the right moment for you. That's kind of nice. I think that's going to be more helpful than a lot of the AI features that we've seen
2:14:24
And Google has had a fair many that are pretty helpful. Magic Eraser is probably the one that is most imitated
2:14:33
And still, Google is probably the best at. so that's probably the standout one and the one people actually use we get a few every year that
2:14:42
are kind of add-ons nice to have what am I going to use this is and I think people are going to use
2:14:48
Magic Capture pretty frequently if you know once they get used to it and remember it's another tool
2:14:54
in their toolbox yeah you did mention a comparison to LG which no longer makes phones so that doesn't
2:15:00
That doesn't bode well, but the camera features are unique to Google
2:15:04
Abarth, do you think that other Android manufacturers are going to pick up a lot of these features
2:15:09
Because generally the Pixel is not really bought by a lot of people, but these features seem to trickle down
2:15:14
Are you expecting Samsung to be like, hey, we've got a Samsung Capture
2:15:19
And then who else makes phones? Motorola saying, we also have Moto Capture
2:15:24
Yeah, I hope they do just to see what fun names they come up with
2:15:28
But there is a lot of crossover across those different companies. And like David mentioned, things like AI erasers across Android phones have been incredible
2:15:40
And I think Samsung's offerings and Google's offerings are very comparable. Obviously, there's all those crossover Android 17 and Gemini intelligence features that you can find across all those devices
2:15:51
So it's always interesting to see what Samsung and Motorola do to be like, yeah, but we have this thing, only us
2:15:56
And I think their example of that was MyFanCam that they launched on the new foldable phones
2:16:01
again, a video-related feature where you can, a little different, but you can focus on one subject
2:16:06
They'll always find ways to make something a little different, but it's a really interesting camaraderie where they're partners but they're competitors
2:16:14
So how will they tow that line and which of the features will they either borrow
2:16:19
or kind of try to improve upon? We've got more comments coming in
2:16:25
At HaterMaker says, bring back detachable batteries. We didn't get that. Not yet, but Google did talk about the repairability
2:16:33
of its phones. It's supposed to be a lot easier to take care of these devices
2:16:37
And that might sound magnanimous. And they're so altruistic for you, but odds are it's the EU telling folks
2:16:44
that you need to have repairable devices, otherwise you can't sell them there
2:16:47
So they didn't seem to mention that. But I will, because I think this sounds nice
2:16:53
Andrew, what do you think about the repairability of these phones because Google's going to back this for seven years
2:16:57
They've been doing that with their other pixels. Do you think that the repairability, the seven-year guarantee
2:17:04
all the cool features, do you think that's going to be a catalyst to get people to go to the pixel
2:17:12
No, but I think it's a good bit of peace of mind for folks who are already
2:17:17
considering the purchase. Like that's not going to be the thing that necessarily is like, oh
2:17:22
this is repairable. Let me go get this phone. But like, I don't know, as a Pixel person myself, it'll add a bit of peace of mind
2:17:30
It added peace of mind for, they added repairability on the Pixel watch for
2:17:36
that's a, you know, bring it back to the wearables, but here we are. And I thought that was particularly important for that because of like the domed glass watch face
2:17:45
which always strikes me as like, I worry about it. And so the fact that they made that repairable adds a lot of peace of mind
2:17:53
And I think it's just a nice, it's a nod for peace of mind for folks who are already considering, who are like, here you go
2:18:05
Here's milk and cookies to let you know you're in the right place
2:18:09
More so than like, this is the flashbang cool. You definitely got to come get this
2:18:15
But I mean, I appreciate it regardless of whether they're having their arm twisted into doing it
2:18:20
I appreciate that it's there. there was another comment saying uh this event made me cancel my pre-order and get a samsung
2:18:28
galaxy s26 ultra thanks google another person said 15 minute while sorry 15 minute charging best news
2:18:36
for watches the pixel watch 5 and i believe the 4 if you leave it on for a short charge you're
2:18:42
going to get like half a day of battery life which is really important essentially put it down when
2:18:49
And you're taking a shower and it's fine for the day. OK, so this was something
2:18:55
I will say, we've seen a lot of different events and types of events
2:19:00
OK, I'll give a little credit to Google on this, because look, this is dry stuff, right? Phones
2:19:08
Everyone's got them. We've reached peak phone. What can you possibly do
2:19:12
I really thought Google was going to hit more on the heartstrings of magic capture
2:19:16
Never miss a moment. oh, your kid just walked, or they're playing sports or something
2:19:22
They didn't really talk about that very much, although they did have that long ad
2:19:26
which looked like, again, Google should be the center of your heart. So it's a mixed message right now with the mixed medium
2:19:35
because essentially this entire show to me looked like, can we get shareable clips
2:19:40
Did Trevor Noah do something funny? Did Alex Cooper do something silly? Let's get that out there
2:19:45
So good on you for trying. Maybe ask Gemini for ideas. David, do you have any ideas how Google could have improved their presentation
2:19:57
I would have loved if they let Trevor Noah more off the leash
2:20:02
I think they gave him a lot of leeway and that led to some fun moments
2:20:06
But you're right. They really got to get through a lot here
2:20:10
And I'm glad that they brought out some Google employees who have actually worked on these things to talk about
2:20:17
it, but the chemistry was really variable between them and Trevor Noah. Really enjoyed that. He was
2:20:23
able to riff a little bit. It's the sort of honesty that this is not just dry, but we've got a pretty
2:20:30
iterative thing. He was excited to be on stage and finally be the one being like, whoa, look
2:20:36
the teleprompter Whoa look this is usually the live demo That energy so much better than say a fakey Jimmy Fallon or anyone else usually on stage or even you know like Apple as as you know efficient as it is to do pre presentations
2:20:55
They're also so produced that in a few years, I won't believe, you know, any human works at Apple
2:21:02
Right. They've just AI'd all of them. which is great. So I appreciate having a little bit more of a soul there
2:21:09
even though it's variable and falls flat a little bit. So more, why don't have Trevor Noah
2:21:15
and another comedian who up there, I think there needs to be some riffing. Maybe they can puppeteer a Google person
2:21:21
Bring on the interview. Conan O'Brien, bring Conan in. Who is that O'Brien
2:21:26
Conan O'Brien, the funniest comedian alive today. Do it. Well, he might actually take them to task about the privacy
2:21:33
It will. Trevor Noah was specifically asking, essentially he was asking questions like, so what
2:21:39
Like, why is this a big deal? Like, that to me was actually important because this is the question we ask ourselves, too, of like, well, what is the big deal about these devices
2:21:48
Let's go around the horn for final thoughts. Andrew, let's start with you
2:21:52
What would you like to say about this made by Google event starring Trevor Noah
2:21:58
Well, obviously, we need to get more Pink Pantherists in there for you, as I know
2:22:01
I think you became an instant fan after that performance. So you mentioned earlier that if it was that you were pretending this whole thing was was made by your kid
2:22:10
And if that's the case, I actually think your kid did like especially for a kid, like a great job
2:22:14
I enjoyed I enjoyed Trevor Noah. I thought his his rapport was good
2:22:20
And I also that sign to text piece like we only like briefly touched on that
2:22:26
That was super cool watching it, especially like live, actually getting to see the camera, read his motions and his face and everything like that
2:22:35
So I don't know that watching technology do something that's like objectively good
2:22:41
is something that, that, that made me happy. So yeah, I, I, I was entertained and there was a
2:22:49
there was a cool, a few good features in there that I think are steps forward
2:22:54
Not to remain on your parade, but that demo was done. Controlled circumstances
2:22:58
really good lighting, a good distance away from the camera, the camera not moving because it was
2:23:04
on a stand. So like, I don't know how this is going to work in the wild, but when they did the
2:23:09
live demos with Magic Capture, that was free-handed. So like, I really am curious to see how this will
2:23:14
end up. David, what do you want to wrap up with? I think it's unfair that you made me go after
2:23:20
Andrew because I also found the ASL to be incredible. I think the ASL feature is another
2:23:27
recognition that these cameras are starting to notice, you know, not just gestures, but posture
2:23:34
and even body language, right? This is sort of all downhill from, say, the Apple Vision Pro
2:23:40
recognizing gestures underneath, right? Like the point and tap and minute. I think this is a lot of
2:23:48
exciting stuff down the road. And of course, here in an accessibility and communication feature
2:23:53
fantastic like that is beautiful that is software right like this is not super advanced hardware and
2:23:59
a lot of these um cameras uh so i am excited about that um i'm less excited that once again
2:24:05
the fold uh doesn't have premium cameras uh i'm less excited that there's not enough this year to
2:24:11
get someone who had a pixel 10 series to uh to upgrade but um you know uh it's not the uh most
2:24:22
stale presentation we've had all year. There's a bunch of new help metrics
2:24:26
tracking in the Pixel Pitch Watch 5. So please stay tuned to our own Vanessa
2:24:32
Handoriana, who is going to explain all those cool things to you. And David, I will tell you
2:24:38
I specifically wanted to be unfair to you as I normally am. So
2:24:42
thank you for those words. Abraar, I hope I'm being fair to you
2:24:46
What do you think of this whole thing? What do you want to tell the audience before we go? I don't want to reiterate everything that's already been said. So ditto to all of that
2:24:54
especially as someone who covers digital accessibility, seeing AI do something practical
2:24:58
and helpful is always wonderful. If I'm going to be honest, I think one of the things that causes
2:25:04
me the most stress as a tech reporter is tech keynotes. So I will say that having had an embargo
2:25:10
lift in the morning and to be able to just kick back and watch this presentation, this is the most
2:25:15
relaxed my nervous system has been ever, I think, while watching a tech keynote. So shout out to
2:25:20
Google for that. I'll take a page out of Andrew's book and say that they did it just for me. I'll
2:25:25
pretend it was all for me. But I do think this was the only way I would have been able to stay awake
2:25:30
and watch a keynote at the end of the day after days of writing about these features. So I am a
2:25:37
fan. That's my hot take. I think it was the best it could be for a tech keynote
2:25:42
As somebody who's going to be recording a video about this whole thing tomorrow
2:25:47
I was not as relaxed because I was waiting for something special to arrive during the live show
2:25:52
And there wasn't, okay? There wasn't any surprise. But that's not to say that these devices weren't excellent, or at least appear to be excellent
2:26:00
Because we are in a tech bubble, sometimes we do get cynical and go, hey, look, big deal
2:26:06
This phone can take photos at 120x zoom. That's crazy. You want to have live audio translations happening on your phone
2:26:17
These phones can do it. You want to translate your voice to somebody else's, sorry, you want to translate your
2:26:22
intonation and voice and language to somebody else, you can do it with a pixel
2:26:27
All of that is insanely powerful. So it's a really different kind of world we're in because we're so used to this
2:26:36
So I will say, I hope Google makes a big splash in the future
2:26:42
I think they play it too safe. I think they've been iterating a lot
2:26:46
And I think they're getting these devices polished and polished and polished
2:26:50
Maybe next year we'll see some real hardware changes. But Google's biggest thing has always been software
2:26:55
and they really showed what they can do at this event. Folks, we're going to have all, every device reviewed at PCMag, CNET
2:27:05
and elsewhere. So please go check that out. I want to thank everybody for making the show happen
2:27:12
Abrar, Andrew, David, Nina, Mike, Carly, who's behind the camera for this one
2:27:17
Steven, and Vidisha for doing a lot of the poll stuff. So thank you for that
2:27:23
I want to thank everybody else. And I want to thank you for watching because this wouldn't have been any fun without you
2:27:29
I'm Ayaz Akhtar, and I'll see you online. I'm out
