Siri’s Google brain: What to expect at WWDC 2026

The iPhone Ultra could be the star of Apple's big June conference

while Siri can make a splash thanks to its new brain. Reports say that the foldable iPhone is going to be a different kind of animal

compared to the iPhone and the iPad. Specifically, closed, it should work like an iPhone

But open? Do not expect iPadOS. Instead, the iPhone Ultra could run a special version of iOS

Now, there's no way Apple's going to restrict the inner screen to just one full-screen app like it does for iPhones

but multitasking on the iPhone is a joke compared to iPadOS and Android

If you want to have two apps up at one time on an iPhone, you better be using an app that uses picture-in-picture

because otherwise, nope. I'm Iaz Actard, let's talk about Apple's big Worldwide Developers Conference

otherwise known as WWDC. This is the event where Apple shows off the future of its software

but the thing is, software has to run on hardware, so they often contain clues about future products

The iPhone Ultra is expected to have a large 7.8-inch inner screen

which is just a half-inch smaller than the iPad Mini. If a version of the iPhone is getting a bigger screen

Apple has to address multitasking and app continuity, how apps behave when you go from one screen to the next

First, multitasking. While iPadOS would make a lot of sense for a larger screen

that not what the reports say The interior screen version of iOS would have to be able to display at least two apps up at one time If Apple smart and it has a tendency to be the company will lift some tricks from Android

The iPhone Ultra would need to do things differently from iPadOS. On Android, you can save something called app pairs

This lets you call up two or more apps on the screen in the orientations you set

Apple would be wise to copy this feature. Maybe Apple will resurrect the horizontal home screen found last on the iPhone 8 Plus

That way, you can't hold the Ultra wrong. Now, let's talk about apps. If you're using one screen, using apps is really simple

Once a phone has two screens, apps need to know what to do when a person goes from one screen to the next

I use the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 every day, so I've seen the ins and outs of using a phone with two screens

With the Fold, Samsung expects you to use the front screen for most things

and when you open the device, the app continues to the inside. Once you close the phone, the front screen locks

Apple would have to figure out what level of control developers will have

to continue apps from one screen to the next. Will this be a system-wide setting in iOS Ultra 27

Is this something that can be set up from app to app? As in, will only my e-reader app continue from the inner to outer screen

Since the iPhone Ultra would be the first of its kind for Apple, I would expect Apple to be very strict on app developers

because the company will be selling a new iPhone that is expected to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of That app experience better be rad Will Apple flat out state that it launching a foldable phone

The company usually doesn't do that sort of thing. Apple could hide its iOS ultra variants within the code of regular iOS 27

However, Apple did introduce the Apple Vision Pro at WWDC in 2023

and it didn't launch until the next year, so it's possible. Did you expect Apple to give up and turn to Google for AI

Well, it did. The rest of Apple's operating systems are going to be dripping in AI

thanks to Apple's deal with Google. With this partnership in place, Apple could finally let its devices be smarter

How much Google will we see at Apple's event? It'll be there, maybe masked as Siri or new writing tools

Expect Apple's first-party apps to work together more seamlessly, too. Also, Google announced that its Android smart glasses

which it calls Intelligent Eyewear, will work on iOS devices, too. Will Apple push its developers to make sure its iOS apps support Android XR devices

That would be nuts. Could Apple just add some code to its developer tools to make sure their app spits out multiple versions

Yeah. macOS would also benefit from this Google injection. Expect Siri to be smarter on Macs too

Could you imagine saying, hey, take a screenshot for me to macOS instead of hitting its native keyboard shortcut

Command for full screen capture or Command so you can select on your own You know the more I think about it the more I can see Apple using AI for its consumers If you know how to do something on iOS other operating systems should understand how to

translate your intent into action. Maybe the AI will essentially unify the operating systems since you'd be able to use the same

Siri from device to device. Mac OS already supports some iPhone and iPad apps

Maybe this new version will open the floodgates. Apple is rumored to be working on a touchscreen Mac

It makes sense for the touch-first apps to run natively on these new laptops

I want to expect the next thing. Apple should fix the strange inconsistencies within macOS

Tahoe is just not as polished as other Macs with odd design choices

I expect a minor overhaul to combat Tahoe's controversial look. Apple TV fans expect larger text sizes

What else? Again, thanks to its deal with Google, Apple TV could have a smarter Siri

that can better recommend stuff for you to watch. What about watchOS

I'll say the next watchOS will grant you immortality. And if you don't have an Apple Watch

you are forever risking your life. Will we see anything about the Apple Vision Pro
