Good morning. Welcome to Insights with
0:03
Pastor John.
0:05
Today I want to talk about the power of
0:07
contentment.
0:09
A lot of times we spend our lives in
0:11
stress and and trying to get through the
0:14
day-to-day works and things that we need
0:16
and u we be we forget about
0:21
one of the most important things there
0:23
is in in our Christian walk which is
0:26
being content and understanding that
0:29
Jesus Jesus said that his peace is
0:32
different than the world's peace and
0:36
what true contentment is
0:40
is the state of peace
0:44
body, mind and soul.
0:47
And we we often talk about our
0:50
emotionals our emotional peace or or the
0:53
peace that we have physically but it all
0:57
you also have to have spiritual peace.
1:00
And uh in Hebrews 13:5, he says, "Let
1:03
your conversation
1:05
be without covetousness, and be content
1:08
with such things as you have, for he
1:11
hath said, I will never leave thee, nor
1:13
forsake thee." And when you're looking
1:15
at this and you you go through what uh
1:19
Jesus said about learning how to be
1:21
content,
1:23
um the sermon on the mount when he says
1:25
not to be seeking after these things, he
1:28
gets real uh the writer of Hebrews here
1:30
is really focused in on letting your
1:33
conversation be without covetousness.
1:36
And when you look this up, this is you
1:39
ever ran into people whose whole focus
1:41
in life is on money,
1:46
success,
1:47
fame,
1:49
and the things that they can get in
1:52
life. And that's what he's talking about
1:54
here. Stop focusing on those things.
1:57
Those are things that all they bring is
2:00
strife because you're constantly in a
2:03
state of I don't have enough. And then
2:06
he says be content with such as you have
2:11
for and you know learning how to do
2:14
that. The apostle Paul, he talked about
2:16
that as well uh
2:20
in Ephesians or Philippians chapter 4.
2:24
Uh
2:28
in uh
2:31
verse 11, he says, "Not that I speak in
2:33
respect of want, for I have learned in
2:36
whatsoever state I am therewith to be
2:39
content." And in verse 12, he says,"I
2:42
know both how to be abased, and I know
2:44
how to abound everywhere and in all
2:48
things. I am I am instructed both to be
2:52
full
2:53
and to be hungry, both to abound and to
2:56
suffer need." And then verse 13 is a
2:59
very commonly quoted uh verse. He says,
3:02
"I can do all things through Christ
3:04
which strengthenth me."
3:06
And you know, we tend to get caught up
3:09
in this whole thing of I don't have
3:12
enough. Uh I need more. I could be I
3:15
would be happy if I had this or I would
3:18
be happy if I had that. That is a state
3:20
of not being content. Being content is
3:24
I'm at peace in my life. I accept the
3:29
things I have. I'm working for things I
3:31
want. But that working for the things
3:33
that I want are is not the driving force
3:38
behind what I do.
3:41
When you're the driving force behind of
3:43
what you do is your relationship with
3:46
Christ and building on that
3:49
then you are able to fulfill what he
3:52
said in uh Matthew 6:33 and 34. 33 he
3:57
tells the people this is sermon on the
3:59
mount. Seek ye first the kingdom of God
4:01
and his righteousness,
4:04
and all these things shall be added unto
4:06
you. And verse 34, it says, "And take no
4:09
thought for tomorrow, for sufficient to
4:11
the day is the evil thereof." If you
4:14
spend all your time worrying, worried
4:17
about how am I going to have enough, how
4:19
am I going to pay this, how am I going
4:21
to pay that, rather than focusing in on
4:23
what he said. And if you read that whole
4:26
passage in Matthew chapter 6 about what
4:30
things to seek after and what not to
4:32
seek after, you'll discover for yourself
4:37
the peace that God gives us, which
4:41
doesn't make sense to the world. Because
4:43
the world's version of peace is if I
4:46
have enough, then I won't worry. And
4:49
Jesus says don't worry and you'll have
4:52
enough.
4:54
And it's a it's a it is a change of your
4:58
thought process to be thankful for what
5:02
you have.
5:05
And and you know he says that he in
5:08
everything give thanks for this is the
5:09
will of God in Christ Jesus concerning
5:11
you. So if I can learn to be thankful
5:16
with what I have and I can learn to live
5:20
with what I have, then I'm opening the
5:23
door for increase.
5:26
If I spend all my time trying to
5:29
increase myself,
5:32
I'm not spending the time that I need to
5:34
increase my relationship with Christ
5:37
because everything is based on that.
5:39
Even John says that uh 3R John verse two
5:42
it says I would that you prosper and be
5:45
in health even as thy soul prospers. So
5:49
everything focuses and turns around to
5:51
one fact and that is this.
5:56
If your soul is prospering everything
5:59
else is affected downstream.
6:02
So we need to change our focus. We need
6:05
to get away from
6:08
the mentality that we see constantly
6:12
uh in the world of trying to get more
6:15
and trying to get more. Stop and
6:18
refocus.
6:20
The only thing you need more of is God.
6:23
Your relationship with him. And if you
6:26
focus on that, on building that
6:29
relationship, being content with what
6:31
you have that God's already given you,
6:35
then you're going to find out that he's
6:38
going to give you more because you
6:39
become a faithful steward with what he
6:41
gave you. And when you that when you
6:44
show faithful stewardship, you're
6:46
showing God, I'm responsible. I can take
6:49
care of the things that you have blessed
6:50
me with. I'm doing the things that you
6:53
have asked me to do and my life I'm
6:55
content.
6:57
And when you reach that place, that
6:59
place of true contentment, then God
7:03
opens the doors even more
7:06
because he gives to you to give to
7:08
others. He takes care of you out of what
7:11
he gives you. But he wants you to be a
7:14
giver because that's his nature. And so
7:17
if we're going to learn to be content,
7:21
we have to accept that, you know, um I
7:25
run into people on a regular basis and
7:28
what we have to accept is we don't have
7:30
to have a $100,000 car to be happy. We
7:35
just need a car that is dependable to be
7:37
happy.
7:39
We don't have to live in the finest
7:41
house in town to be happy. If we have a
7:44
house that's paid for and it's in a good
7:48
repair and
7:51
uh we get so caught up and people get so
7:55
caught up in the need to own and have
7:59
the best of the best of the best
8:03
that they they
8:06
the place they're lacking in their life
8:10
is having
8:12
an intimate close personal relationship
8:14
with God, which is more important than
8:17
anything. If you focus on building that
8:20
relationship
8:22
and letting your testimony speak about
8:24
you, that God has changed your life,
8:26
that God has done things for you, that
8:28
God has taken you to places that uh most
8:31
people have never been. If you focus on
8:34
that,
8:37
God will open doors that you cannot
8:39
really even wrap your mind around. It's
8:42
important for us to realize that we give
8:47
because he gave.
8:49
We're content because he gave us his
8:52
peace. I don't have to strive with the
8:55
world to get the things of the world. I
8:57
just need to do what God asked me to do.
9:00
And he will supply all of our needs
9:02
according to his riches and glory. God
9:05
has no lack
9:10
if we do it his way. So I want you to
9:13
keep that in mind. The power of
9:16
contentment
9:18
is that you're at peace
9:21
mentally, physically, and spiritually.
9:25
I would that you prosper and be in
9:28
health even as thy soul prospers. Focus
9:32
on prospering your soul.
9:34
Be the best person you can be. Do the
9:38
work as of as if unto the Lord. And God
9:41
will honor it for you. He will show you
9:44
a better way. So I want you to keep that
9:47
in mind this week. Jesus loves you. He
9:51
has great plans for you.
9:54
Do it his way and you'll be amazed by
9:57
what changes in your life. I can share
10:00
with you things that God has done uh in
10:03
my own life when I learned the power of
10:05
being content to be thankful
10:08
in everything. Uh God began to use me in
10:12
ministry and then he began to increase
10:15
me through ministry and he will do the
10:17
same for you because the Bible teaches
10:20
us clearly. God's not a respector of
10:21
persons. Whatever he's done for one, he
10:24
will do for another.
10:26
But to get what he he did for this one,
10:30
you're going to have to do the same
10:32
thing. So rather than being envious or
10:36
or
10:38
anything like that, take a look at this
10:39
person's life. See what God what they're
10:42
doing in their relationship with God and
10:45
then do the same thing in your
10:47
relationship with God. And that doesn't
10:49
mean, you know, comb your hair the way
10:51
they comb their hair or whatever. It's
10:53
about that commitment to the
10:55
relationship they have.
10:58
Have the same commitment to relationship
11:00
in your own life and God will increase
11:03
you because of it. So we'll see you guys
11:07
next week. I want you to have a great
11:10
week. Learn to be content. Being content
11:13
is the key to everything that you want
11:16
to do. So, God bless you and we'll see
11:20
you guys again next
