0:00
if you like milkshakes and you like
0:01
testing out new recipes this video is
0:03
going to be for you because today we're
0:05
going to blend up three traditional
0:06
milkshake flavors like strawberry
0:08
vanilla and chocolate and because I own
0:10
a freeze dryer and a freeze drying
0:12
business I'm going to decide to put that
0:14
milkshake into my freeze dryer removing
0:17
the moisture and once the freeze drying
0:19
process is done we're going to see if
0:20
the result turns out to be a delicious
0:23
milkshake bite now all these recipes I
0:26
got from a YouTuber called the white
0:28
elephant I'm going to give him credit
0:30
for Designing all these different
0:32
milkshake recipes they're very simple
0:34
but very delicious and I love the type
0:36
of content that he has now the white
0:38
elephants recipe for strawberry banana
0:40
milkshake is three scoops of vanilla ice
0:43
cream I'm going to use tillamuk ice
0:45
cream today and then he uses half a
0:47
banana as well as a full cup of fresh
0:49
strawberries and then he also has half a
0:52
cup of milk so four easy ingredients not
0:55
many ways to mess this up now what other
0:57
appliances and tools are you going to
0:58
need to make these milkshakes as well as
1:01
do the freeze drying process well let me
1:03
show you one got to have a cutting board
1:05
we got to have a knife to cut this fruit
1:07
we also have an ice cream scoop we also
1:10
have a blender now you can use one of
1:12
those Magic Bullets that's very small
1:14
and more of like a a regular serving
1:16
size I'm going to use my my bigger
1:18
blender for that you also are going to
1:20
need a glass because we're going to do a
1:22
taste test of the fresh milk shake
1:24
obviously and then also I've got my
1:27
freeze dryer trays back here now I I own
1:30
a harvest freeze dryer and so I've got
1:32
the Harvest Right large freeze dryer all
1:35
ready to go and I'll talk about the
1:37
freeze dryer settings in a second but we
1:39
want a freeze dryer tray and then I've
1:41
got these molds that they sell on
1:44
harvestright.com now you can buy
1:46
different molds on Amazon if you'd like
1:49
I've got some links in the video
1:50
description uh where you can find those
1:52
molds that have you know different
1:54
animal shapes things like that but I'm
1:55
just going to use the molds that fit on
1:57
one of these large trays for the Harvest
2:00
Right freeze dryer now I've also got
2:02
these tray Lids now these are from Freez
2:05
drying supplies.com these particular
2:07
tray Lids go right on top of the trays
2:11
and then they snap into place and then
2:13
you have these little raised edges where
2:15
you can stack uh the different trays for
2:18
that so that's the type of tools that
2:20
we're going to have for today if you
2:22
don't have any of these you can always
2:24
go to the video description and support
2:25
this channel by using the affiliate link
2:27
for harvestright.com and also you can
2:29
buy those tray Lids as well as other
2:32
different accessories with the Freez
2:33
drying supplies.com and I've got my
2:35
referral link below in there so now that
2:38
we know what we need let's go ahead and
2:40
start making that strawberry banana
2:41
milkshake okay first I've washed all my
2:44
strawberri so I'm just going to cut off
2:46
the stems now I want to go through kind
2:47
of the goals of this again which is we
2:50
want to try new things when we're
2:52
exploring starting a freeze drying
2:54
business this is why one of the reasons
2:56
why you want to have a home freeze dryer
2:59
like a counter top like a harvest right
3:01
stay fresh blue Alpine all these are
3:03
great home freeze dryers and you can use
3:06
them to experiment with different
3:08
recipes and what I like doing is looking
3:11
at opportunities of everyday desserts
3:14
and foods and things like that that we
3:16
have on a daily basis and then looking
3:19
at the freeze drying process as a way to
3:21
preserve that food item or make it kind
3:24
of a new snack with texture so we're
3:27
going to just put all the ingredients
3:29
back in here so the strawberries are
3:31
going to go in here the banana that we
3:34
cut in half is going to go in here and
3:37
then we're going to put the ice cream
3:40
the recipe calls for three scoops of
3:42
vanilla ice cream I'm using tillamuk ice
3:44
cream just cuz I love that they don't
3:47
add a ton of different ingredients Now
3:49
the recipe calls for half a cup of milk
3:50
so let's make sure we put that in here
3:54
to give it that moisture remember that
3:56
all the moisture from the strawberries
3:58
the banana this milk as well as the ice
4:01
cream is all going to be dried out in
4:05
the freeze dryer but we first need to
4:11
up a strawberry vanilla milkshake
4:14
freshly made in Davis's kitchen thanks
4:17
to the white elephant let's give it a
4:20
taste tastes good strawberry banana I
4:24
can taste it all now let's get these in
4:25
the freeze dryer trays now just so you
4:27
know I'm at home right now I making this
4:30
for fun so I wouldn't be selling this
4:32
particular milkshake obviously so if
4:34
you're going to do this you're obviously
4:36
not going to give it a taste test all
4:37
right let's get this strawberry
4:38
milkshake into the molds I'm being kind
4:40
of delicate with the pore here it
4:42
doesn't really matter because what
4:45
you're going to get after you see this
4:47
come out of the freeze dryer is the
4:49
molds are going to be fine so we're just
4:51
going to pour these in and try to get
4:53
them as even as possible now that we
4:55
have them all poured is we're going to
4:57
put those tray Lids that we got from
5:00
freeze drying supplies we're going to
5:01
put these on here and then what we get
5:05
on here is we get to be able to put
5:07
another tray right on top of here I'm
5:10
going to put this into my freezer out in
5:12
the garage then we'll do the chocolate
5:14
and the vanilla milkshake
5:30
wow now that is good now it's time to
5:33
get this vanilla milkshake onto the
5:34
freeze dryer trays now another thing
5:36
that you could do instead of these molds
5:38
is maybe we could use tray dividers and
5:40
we could actually lay out the entire
5:43
milkshake uh material all into this
5:46
whole tray and then we could either use
5:49
tray dividers to kind of make squares or
5:52
we could also prefreeze this and then
5:56
run like a cookie cutter knife or
5:58
something to make those Square squares
6:00
and make them as bite-sized as you want
6:02
in terms of different sizes now if you
6:04
want kind of some some ideas of what
6:06
that might look like go to my video that
6:09
I did about the stenland Family Farms
6:11
they freeze dry ice cream and their
6:14
particular product has squares and what
6:16
they do is they take their ice cream and
6:19
they pre-freeze it all across the tray
6:22
they actually load it up on a tray no
6:24
molds or anything and then once it's
6:26
prefrozen then they take that cutter and
6:28
they cut it all up into even Square
6:30
slices so that's what their process is
6:32
you can check out that video in the
6:33
video description also above here in the
6:35
cards we'll move on to the
6:52
chocolate and thanks to the white
6:54
elephant recipe this is a traditional
7:01
so good now let's get this onto the
7:02
freeze dryer trays and then we'll put it
7:04
in the freeze dryer now no wonder what
7:06
freeze dryer you have again get it down
7:08
to a pre-freezing temperature of -10 to
7:12
-20° and then you're going to set the
7:14
drying temperature to 120 or
7:18
125° typically the freeze dryers are set
7:22
125° I found that freeze-dried ice cream
7:26
in general uh which kind of the what is
7:30
uh does best at a lower temperature and
7:33
it's able to kind of dry it at that
7:35
consistent temp as well as uh
7:37
prefreezing I've been hosting this
7:38
YouTube channel for 2 and a half years
7:40
now and I've really connected myself
7:42
well with the industry both for people
7:45
who have freeze drying businesses to
7:47
also manufacturers who make freeze
7:49
drying equipment so if you want to be
7:51
more connected to the freeze drying
7:52
community and know what's available out
7:54
there for you to either start and
7:56
innovate a business or grow your
7:58
business and you just want to know more
8:00
about what's happening this is the
8:01
channel and the community for you all
8:03
right the freeze drying process is done
8:05
and I've got the freeze dried milkshake
8:08
bites right here on the counter now are
8:09
you ready to see what a freeze-dried
8:11
milkshake bite looks like let's take a
8:13
look here is the finished product here
8:14
is what a freeze-dried milkshape bite
8:17
looks like look how light that is see it
8:19
has the Harvest Right logo so if you
8:21
made your own molds you could have that
8:23
logo as well very lightweight see how
8:26
I'm even just dumping it into the air
8:28
and throwing it in the air it's very
8:30
light and then um Just for kicks let's
8:33
actually like break it and kind of smash
8:36
it let's see if it actually just kind of
8:38
crumbles yep there we go and that's what
8:42
freeze-dried milkshake bites look like
8:45
as you can see there so all dried out
8:48
perfect and then this made about one
8:52
glass full so we won't take too much of
8:55
this uh we want to do some taste testing
8:57
and some reconstitution but let's let's
8:59
get these out of the molds and then
9:09
testing wow I can't believe how these
9:11
turned out as you can see they're dried
9:14
milkshake bites and I'm excited to taste
9:16
test these just as is as a as a dried
9:19
milkshake bite right and that's the
9:21
whole point of developing a freeze-dried
9:24
recipe as quote unquote is the recipe is
9:27
what type of application do you want it
9:28
to be in terms of resell if you're
9:31
starting a business if you're just doing
9:32
this for fun then you can try different
9:34
things but if you were going to sell
9:36
these milkshake bites what we want to
9:38
test is one what does the end result
9:40
look like it's dried and we're going to
9:42
try it as an actual stackable dried
9:45
freeze-dried product so before we jump
9:47
into the taste test why would you freeze
9:50
dry milkshakes for one it's fun this is
9:54
going to be kind of a new product for
9:56
someone to try and I don't care if other
9:59
people explore doing this as well but
10:01
it's kind of like the freeze-dried candy
10:03
aspect there's a lot of people freeze
10:05
dry candy maybe I'm going to be the
10:07
first one to freeze dry milkshake bites
10:09
and have that as a sellable product and
10:10
if other people want to try different
10:11
flavors if other people want to try
10:14
different Wafers that are thinner versus
10:16
these thicker pieces if they want to do
10:18
you know actual squares or different
10:20
formations then that's perfectly fine
10:23
again the idea of starting a freeze
10:24
drying business is using the process to
10:27
create something new that is your own
10:29
brand so let's get started with the
10:30
taste test and try each one of these now
10:32
I've never tried this before this is the
10:34
first time I'm going to try a milkshake
10:36
bite so let's give it a try and see how
10:37
it tastes as a dried
10:41
snack wow I don't know how else to
10:43
describe it other than definitely
10:45
chocolate definitely dried it didn't
10:48
leave too much of like a powder residue
10:50
like if you would have uh you know
10:53
cinnamon in your mouth or something
10:55
that's very chalky it was I was able to
10:58
digest it and it was able to kind of
11:00
melt in my mouth there's still a little
11:02
bit of residue of the chocolate in my
11:03
mouth but overall that was a very tasty
11:06
bite scale of one of 10 for the
11:08
chocolate I'm going to give it
11:09
definitely a 7 to8 because it's not my
11:12
favorite flavor of a milkshake but in
11:15
terms of the texture and the way that it
11:17
was a snackable bite very good 7.5 let's
11:21
give it all right now let's try the
11:22
strawberry banana I wanted to try the
11:24
strawberry banana because it adds two of
11:27
a really good combination of flavor and
11:29
it is fairly popular with a lot of
11:31
people so if I was going to sell this i'
11:33
do maybe strawberry and strawberry
11:34
banana and in fact in my business I sell
11:37
strawberry banana mix in terms of the
11:38
dried fruit so let's try the
11:42
strawberry that's good very heavy on the
11:44
banana even though I used half of a
11:47
banana the strawberry as you can see in
11:50
one of these bites I don't know if I can
11:52
zoom in close enough but there is
11:53
definitely some strawberry chunks in
11:55
there that's when I can actually taste
11:56
the strawberry I think I'm GNA have to
11:58
add more than a cup of strawberries to
12:01
the recipe uh to to bring out that
12:03
strawberry cuz the banana is very strong
12:06
overall I'm going to give this also a
12:09
7.5 uh just because I it it melted in my
12:13
mouth it uh went down very well and like
12:16
this is definitely just like the
12:17
chocolate it was delicious so let's move
12:20
on to the vanilla all right let's do a
12:21
taste test for the vanilla Now the
12:23
recipe on this if you want to rewatch
12:25
the video we added uh vanilla ice cream
12:28
as well as Vana extract and we also did
12:31
some vanilla wafers um not the the
12:34
cookie but the uh the wafer bars so uh
12:38
I'm I'm pretty sure I'm probably going
12:39
to taste some of that wafer so let's
12:41
give it a taste now that is good
12:44
definitely tastes the wafer kind of that
12:46
that dried cracker and then definitely
12:49
tastes like vanilla ice cream I love it
12:51
now the vanilla I'm going to give this
12:53
almost a nine because I really liked the
12:56
flavor of this and I think that vanilla
12:58
wafer bar going into the the recipe
13:02
really added a little bit of different
13:04
kind of kick to it and different taste
13:06
let's bring all these back in to view
13:08
here so like I said the strawberry 7.5 I
13:12
gave the chocolate a 7.5 rating and I'm
13:15
going to go with a nine for the vanilla
13:17
all of these really tasted well I like
13:20
this as a as an actual snackable product
13:23
that we could sell as freeze-dried the
13:26
difference that I would go with the next
13:28
recipe if I was going to sell this in my
13:30
business is I'd do a little bit thinner
13:33
of a of a wafer now don't go anywhere
13:36
because I've got another recipe for you
13:37
to take a look at in how to freeze dry
13:39
guacamole and I think you're going to be
13:41
impressed and surprised at what the
13:43
results was with the regular
13:45
freeze-dried snackable application as
13:48
well as the application with
13:49
reconstitution so check out that video
13:51
coming up next I'll see you there
