If you want to know how to catch fish easily, you have to think about the old days. You as a small child with your parent. worms, minnow and bobber. The old days were simple because simple is the best way to catch fish fast. You can have times to experiment and try out new lures and techniques. That is great and I do that all the time. You just have to realize that you may not catch fish because of many circumstances. Please don't be angry because the fish aren't biting for you today. If you are trying to fish at work please try live bait first. Make sure it is live bait that is local to the area or is also found in your area. Matching the hatch is important for live bait and even more important for lures. Fish are going to eat live bait like worms for sure. So go to your local fishing store and pick up some worms or a minnow bucket and some minnows. You can try your hand on just about any body of water and see how to catch fish easily! Depending on where you are located you may be forced to drive to the nearest bait shop or worse a big box store. I used to do this myself when I was younger and it just lead to me buying lots and lots of fishing lures at great sale prices. I don't have those lures anymore, but at the time it was the best feeling. Buying a fishing license should be an easy thing to do, but sometimes it is not. Depending on what type of fishing lure you get it may actually require a lot of documentation or cost more than you hoped. Be warned if you don't get this license you can get a $150 ticket from the Game Warden. I know this because I got one fishing while in high school. I forgot to buy mine that spring and got a ticket. Now I know better. Please take this advice and see if your state provides fishing licenses online. Massachusetts does this now and it is awesome. it is great because it is easy to do and access your fishing license whenever you need too. No more driving to the store do anything, but get live bait. I wanted to better describe using topographic maps to decipher where certain fish may be located during the winter. This works for other seasons as well and each fish likes different things. Yellow perch actually prefer shallow waters with underwater grass growing. I found that area and was perplexed to find hungry fish there. Just because it's freezing and you can't take your gloves off to properly fish doesn't mean the fish aren't still biting. You can still have your fishing fun with your regular rod and reel or maybe you have to use an ice fishing kit because its too cold. Even better yet....maybe you don't even have a real winter where you live. I would love to come by and fish where you fish if that is true. Anyway! go out there and keep fishing!

I am sure you might have done something wrong. You probably remember having it too loose and losing a nice fish because you weren't able to properly set the hook. You may have set it too tight and lost a fish to a line break. You may have even gotten hung on something and the tight tension pulled you and the rod and reel right off the boat! I for one commend you for not letting go of your priceless possession. Learning to set your drag is not a hard thing to do. It is different for each type of reel, line weight and fish you hope to catch. Depending on the situation you will want the drag set to a certain tension. In most cases you don't have to mess with this much since each setup is usually for a particular type of fish. Thankfully, almost every spinning reel will state exactly what size fishing line it will handle and how much line can be added at that weight. I show this in the video and it is very important, but some older and different types of reels don't do this. When you run into this particular situation you will have to do some experimentation. If you own different size reels for lightweight fishing, regular bass fishing and for saltwater fishing, you will notice the size difference. With this change you will be able to guess the size you can use. However, let me be perfectly clear. A bass fishing baitcasting reel can handle 30lb test even if it doesn't say so. You will just have to be ok with 100 yards or less of line on it. This is generally done when you only use it for flipping. It is a weird spindle shaped fishing reel that is nothing like the spincast reel you trained on when you were a kid. I don't personally remember having one of those, but maybe I did. I don't train people to use spincast reels because it doesn't teach much of anything except clicking and holding a button. I believe it is very important for people to understand how to use a spinning reel because of the versatility that it gives you. It also allows you some give when it comes to giving tangles. If you wanted to switch to a baitcasting reel you will find yourself in a whole world of hurt. Rigging it up is just like the way you would spool yarn. It has easy settings for drag and a easy "bail" to lock the fishing line in place when you aren't holding the line. The parts are also easy to understand when you open it up. I have gone in and fixed issues with cheap reels and done some maintenance to old high quality reels like PENN. Size doesn't matter when it comes to spinning reels. However, baitcasting reels do provide more power and control when it comes to bigger fish. It can be even trickier if you are doing it with a lure. The palomar knot is arguably the strongest knot you can use for fishing. It can be said to be the best knot because it has a small profile and won't rub against structure when you are working your lure. I just started using this knot a couple months ago and it has really helped me out when I am using braided line. Braided line frays into separate strands when it is cut. This makes it hard to get the line through small holes. The palomar knot doesn't have to worry about that because it doesn't use the end of the line at all! Putting a lure on your fishing line doesn't have to be hard. Using this or the slipknot is easy enough to do. However, don't use a regular shoestring knot.
