I SOLVED the Mystery of the SS Nantes after 150 Years
Nov 20, 2025
The SS Nantes was built in Glasgow in 1874 and operated by the Cunard Steamship company. Following a collision with a German sailng ship, she sank in 1888 with only 3 survivors from the 28 people onboard.
The SS Nantes was missing for nearly 140 years until we found a shipwreck lying at 74 metres in the English Channel. A combination of factors including size, location and early Cunard crockery allowed us to identify the previously unknown wreck as the SS Nantes.
Another underwater mystery solved!
