100 Years Since HMS M1 Was Lost — 69 Crew Never Returned
Nov 12, 2025
Today marks 100 years since HMS M1 submarine was lost beneath the English Channel with all 69 crew members aboard.
On November 12th, 1925, during routine exercises, the Swedish merchant ship SS Vidar struck her hull, tearing away the massive 12-inch gun mounting. Water flooded in instantly. The crew never stood a chance.
For 74 years she remained lost, until divers finally discovered her in 1999 at 73 meters depth. HMS M1 now rests as a protected war grave in the English Channel.
This video commemorates the 69 crew members of HMS M1 who gave their lives in service. Lest we forget. 🎖️⚓
