Lemon rice, known as chitranna, kalasanna is a south Indian rice recipe. In the traditional lemon rice, no onion or garlic is used, so it can be made on festival days too. Lemon rice is also good to make as one dish meal as it is a quick cooking recipe. You may also use leftover rice for making kalasanna.

Cooked and cooled rice – 2 bowls
Juice of 1 lemon/lime or as per taste
Salt – 1 to 1 ½ tsp, as per taste
Coriander leaves, chopped – 1 tbsp
grated fresh coconut - 1/4 cup

Oil – 2-3 tbsp
Rai/mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Cumin/jeera – ½ tsp
Hing – ¼ tsp
Groundnuts/peanuts – raw, 1 tbsp
Chana dal – 1 tsp
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Green chili - 4-5 chopped, as per taste.
