SAMANTHA and Michael have been together for over seven years. The couple met at a party where Samantha's small stature caught Michael's eye. She is a little person born with a rare type of dwarfism called Chondrodystrophy. With Michael being 6ft 2" and Samantha 4ft, the couple get a lot of attention because of their two-foot height difference. Samantha explained: "We have so many people trying to take pictures. It's sometimes scary because people will follow me." Michael added: "We get comments all the time like, how did he even get with her?" Online, they get negative remarks such as "that man knows he's straight violating" and rows of laughing face emojis. "They're trying to make me a fetish," Samantha said. In this episode of Born Different, the couple speak with Samantha's long-time best friend Jason, who admits he had doubts at the start of their relationship.

I'm Sam, and I'm four foot tall
0:02
I'm Michael. I'm 6'2". We get trolled for our height difference all of the time
0:07
And people say our relationship is like a freak show. I try to make sure that I have at least two or three stools
0:13
around me. I have to make it work. So my biggest thing is fixing it to make it easier for me
0:19
however that may be. With me being a little person, a lot of people wanted to be with me behind closed doors
0:25
but never in public. I even had an incident where a guy asked me to homecoming
0:31
and then took it back because he was embarrassed. And that probably was one of the most hurtful things that has happened to me
0:38
In public, they'll come around at the store, come down another aisle
0:42
just to get a picture or just to look at us and double take
0:46
I feel like the hate has definitely made us stronger as a couple. I try not to pay attention to any of that stuff
0:52
I'm a lover, not a fighter. If I'm ever by myself, that's why I like to always have him with me
0:58
It's sometimes scary because people will follow me and try to get pictures of me, even like guys
1:04
So it's even scary because me as a mom, I don't want to be followed or catcall
1:09
You know, a lot of people sometimes they'll look at me and they'll be like, oh, I feel so bad. That's probably so much work on her
1:14
I still make it work, you know, to show him that I can
1:18
so today you guys we are going to make one of my favorite home-cooked meals you guys ready let's go
1:26
i'm sam i have a dwarfism and i'm four foot tall i'm michael i'm six two and people say our
1:32
relationship is like a freak show so when we first met i've seen her at the party and i just seen
1:40
that she was a little person so like she called my eye quick i added her on facebook and inboxed
1:47
and it just, the rest is history, I guess. We get trolled for our height difference all of the time
1:54
We never met, that's what I'm gonna say. Yeah, he just seen me. And then was stalking me for a little while
1:59
I seen him in person for the first time, and I was like, dang, he's kinda cute. Okay
2:05
If I had to be honest the first thing that caught my eye about her was her booty I knew you were going to say that It true because the first time I seen her I was like damn
2:18
And see. And see. I have a dwarfism called chondrodystrophy. It affects me a lot throughout my day
2:27
Thank you. There's times when I need something up high and if he's at work
2:32
I try to make sure that I have at least two or three stools around me
2:35
I have to make it work. So my biggest thing is fixing it to make it easier for me, however that may be
2:43
So a lot of the times people are like, I don't understand how that works
2:47
They always move towards the bedroom. They'll be like, oh, he'll crush her or like stupid stuff like that
2:53
You know what I mean? In public, they'll come around at the store, come down another aisle just to get a picture or just to look at us and double take
3:02
okay hey babe did you upload the chicken stew video yes i did i want to check out the comments
3:09
he doesn't look too happy standing beside his tiny woman brody understood the mission because
3:15
like they're trying to make me uh i guess that man know he's straight violating
3:21
and laughing faces hold up wait a minute wait a minute what are we waiting a minute for
3:27
I'm obvious. What's the next comment you have to say? You're too cute for him
3:32
Why don't you look for someone looking better looking? But I think you're hot, so I don't know
3:36
Happy Father's Day to your handsome husband. Girl, bye. I feel like people were jealous of me
3:42
because of how beautiful and everything else about her. Aw, thank you, baby
3:49
I tried not to pay attention to any of that stuff. I'm a lover, not a fighter
3:54
I feel like the hate has definitely made us stronger as a couple. It really puts a test to our relationship to see how, you know, much we have each other's backs in this situation called life
4:07
With me being a little person, a lot of people wanted to be with me behind closed doors, but never in public
4:14
I even had an incident where a guy asked me to homecoming and then took it back because he was embarrassed And that probably was one of the most hurtful things that has happened to me
4:27
I think I'm going to call my friend Jason, because remember in the beginning he wasn't too sure about you
4:32
So I'm a little afraid about what he's going to say. So you know I have some questions for you
4:37
What did you really think of Michael when I told you about him
4:44
You know I was a little weary. I had to look out for my girl
4:48
What did the rest of our friend group think? Our friend group don't bite their tongue at all
4:52
No, they don't. They don't. He's heard it from our mouths aplenty also that we were all always going to be looking out for her
5:00
And, you know, obviously didn't really like Michael at first. I was obviously thinking maybe it was like just like a little fling or, you know, boys will be boys and players will be players
5:12
Right. With that being said, so then how do you feel about him now
5:19
I mean, what really kind of changed my mind was probably when Sam really found out when she was pregnant
5:27
I feel like he's, you know, stepped up to the plate to really help you provide for this baby
5:34
Yeah, so I'm a big fan now. It really does bring another light out from her
5:41
glow, if you would say. I love you. So obviously, the height difference
5:50
He really needed to be there to help you and really do
5:54
protect you from all these haters out there. Okay. Be out there by yourself, always worrying
6:00
to look over your shoulder. Right. Well, we're going to get back to the baby, so we'll call you tomorrow
6:06
See you later, girl. Bye, love ya. Bye. With my parents in the beginning
6:12
my dad was a little bit like off-put. I'm his only girl, so he wanted to make sure
6:18
that whoever I was dating had my heart and they weren't going to break it
6:24
And then my mom she a little bit more on the stern type so she was just saying you know make sure that he not just using you or just wants to be with you because you a little person or you know it is this serious
6:41
And now my parents love him. He takes care of me and he treats me well
6:46
Look! You want to go over there and check it out? Let's go
6:51
You ready, Daddy? Let's go. Look, you see that dragonflies? When we're in public, we have so many people trying to take pictures usually
7:02
Or they'll stop and be like, oh my God, are you a mom? And I'm like, obviously I'm a mom
7:08
He's a fast one. He's ready. He's trying to ride. If I'm ever by myself, that's why I like to always have him with me
7:17
It's sometimes scary because people will follow me and try to get pictures of me, even like guys
7:23
So it's even scary because me as a mom, I don't want to be followed
7:27
Or, you know, or catcall. Mommy, have a kiss? Yeah. So I think something that's really misunderstood as a mother with dwarfism is that we're not capable
7:43
When you become a mother, everything is like, you will make it happen, no matter what is in your way
7:50
I make sure that I pull through for my baby. And a lot of people sometimes think, and, you know, they'll look at me and they'll be like, oh, I feel so bad
7:56
that's probably so much work on her. Or like, you know, she can't even pick him up
8:01
But I still make it work, you know, to show him that I can
8:06
What I love is just waking up every day to my family
8:10
and coming home from work every day to my family. It's just the best part of my day every day
8:19
To be with someone so talented, she's creative. She's so much. I love her small like this
8:28
Because then I can help her more and stuff. I feel needed, I guess
