Yesterday
0:14
there was sun and there was rain.
0:17
Beauty in the mundane.
0:20
Today we are going to be doing a midweek
0:23
home reset. And while I'm doing that,
0:26
I'm also going to be sharing with you
0:27
guys some cleaning hacks that I have
0:29
found make for a stress-free home and
0:32
everything that I've learned over the
0:34
years as a stay-at-home mom and
0:36
homemaker who has been really narrowing
0:39
down what actually makes cleaning up my
0:41
home and maintaining it more difficult
0:44
and figuring out something that finally
0:46
works for our family and for our home.
0:48
Because something I've noticed about
0:49
cleaning that we don't talk about enough
0:51
is that sometimes the mess isn't what
0:54
stresses us out. It's the feeling that
0:56
we're never actually finished because
0:58
you clean the kitchen, somebody eats,
1:00
you pick up the living room, and the
1:02
kids come back. You finally get the
1:04
laundry put away and then somehow there
1:06
is always another load waiting in the
1:09
background. And the thing is that if
1:11
we're not careful, keeping the house can
1:13
definitely begin to feel like a
1:15
full-time job without any finish line.
1:18
And this is something that I talked
1:19
about in the last video that I shared
1:21
with you guys. I was just basically
1:23
telling you guys that I felt like before
1:26
I began cleaning, I was already feeling
1:28
overwhelmed because I wasn't 100% sure
1:32
where the finish line was because I was
1:34
doing a little bit more than what's on
1:36
my typical cleaning schedule. And that
1:38
in itself can be daunting when you don't
1:40
really feel like there's a finish line.
1:42
But something that I have learned is
1:44
that a peaceful home isn't really
1:47
created by constantly cleaning, but
1:49
instead making it easier to live in. And
1:53
over the past year or more, I've been
1:55
trying to incorporate this into my
1:57
channel, show you guys how I do it, and
1:59
also teach you guys what I do. So today,
2:02
while I reset the house, I'm going to be
2:04
sharing some of the little cleaning
2:05
habits and systems that have helped me
2:08
to make our home feel a lot more calm
2:10
without actually spending the entire day
2:13
cleaning. I have even learned how to do
2:16
a whole house clean in like an hour. And
2:19
so these are just basically the simple
2:22
changes that can make a huge and a big
2:25
difference. So let's go ahead and reset
2:27
the house together. Okay you guys, the
2:29
first one is actually quite simple if
2:32
you do not overthinking and and that is
2:35
taking care of the little messes while
2:37
you are already there. If I'm cooking
2:40
dinner, then I'll wash a few dishes
2:42
while something is cooking. If I spill
2:44
something, I'll clean it up immediately.
2:46
It's literally just cleaning up as you
2:48
go. So if you walk into a room and you
2:50
see something that belongs somewhere
2:51
else, then just take it with you while
2:54
you are leaving out, especially if you
2:56
have to pass through that area anyway
2:58
because you will eventually see that
3:00
these little moments, they might seem
3:02
very insignificant at the moment. But
3:05
they keep small messes from becoming
3:08
bigger messes. And I think that's one of
3:10
the biggest secrets to having a
3:12
stressfree home because you're not
3:14
constantly trying to catch up and clean.
3:17
Instead, you're maintaining what you've
3:19
already done. So, of course, you're
3:20
still going to be doing some cleaning in
3:22
terms of home maintenance. Whereas,
3:24
today, for instance, the only thing that
3:26
I really need to take care of was like
3:27
my kitchen or main living area and then
3:30
just give my bedroom a refresh, like
3:33
make the beds and things like that. That
3:35
is what maintaining your home is versus
3:37
doing a whole house catch up and get it
3:40
all done. Second is making sure that you
3:42
give everything in your home a place to
3:44
belong because something will eventually
3:47
become categorized as clutter when you
3:50
don't know where it's supposed to go. So
3:52
now you have the place where you just
3:54
keep everything that has no home and
3:56
that can easily become stressful when it
3:58
comes to cleaning it up, but also just
4:00
stressful on the eyes when you're
4:01
looking at it, when you have guests
4:02
coming over. So if you constantly have
4:05
things sitting on your counters, your
4:07
tables, your stairs, or your floors,
4:10
just ask yourself where does this
4:13
actually belong? And then if there is no
4:15
answer or the answer is nowhere, then
4:18
that is your sign that you actually may
4:20
just have too much stuff. A home doesn't
4:24
have to hold everything that you have
4:26
ever purchased. It's okay to let some
4:29
things go and you'll learn that the
4:30
fewer things you have to manage, the
4:33
easier your home is to clean. So instead
4:35
of constantly organizing the same
4:37
clutter over and over again, just try
4:39
removing some of it. Because less stuff
4:42
means less to clean, less to put away,
4:44
and less to think about. Another thing
4:46
that can make cleaning overwhelming is
4:48
having a different product for literally
4:50
everything. One kitchen product, one
4:53
bathroom product, one for the glass, one
4:55
for the stainless steel, the surface.
4:57
And this is something that I've talked
4:58
about in many of my other videos where
5:01
I'm just telling you guys sometimes an
5:03
allpurpose cleaner does the job. I
5:05
prefer keeping my cleaning supplies
5:08
simple. Just having a small collection
5:10
of products that you actually use makes
5:13
cleaning faster and suddenly your
5:16
cleaning cabinet is not overflowing and
5:18
needing a new reorganization because you
5:20
don't have to spend 10 minutes figuring
5:22
out which product you're supposed to use
5:24
and going through everything under your
5:26
cabinet. You just grab what you need and
5:29
get started. The next cleaning hack I
5:32
really love is a 10inut reset. This is
5:36
unlearning having to do a full 3-hour
5:39
clean marathon. Sometimes I set a 15inut
5:42
timer. Sometimes I set a 1 hour timer
5:45
and the 10-minute timer is the one that
5:48
you go to when you just want to focus on
5:50
those little areas that are bothering
5:52
you the most. Just pick up the clutter,
5:54
put a few things away, clear the
5:56
counter, straighten the couch up, take
5:57
out the trash, and then once your timer
6:00
goes off, you can stop because sometimes
6:02
we don't have an entire day to clean.
6:04
But even if you have 15 minutes, that 15
6:07
minutes can make a huge difference,
6:08
especially later down the line. You may
6:11
be surprised by how much you can
6:13
actually accomplish in 10 focused
6:15
cleaning minutes. And even more
6:17
importantly, it keeps the mess from
6:20
becoming so overwhelming that you don't
6:22
know where to start to begin. Another
6:24
one is to have a daily reset zone. So,
6:26
if your house feels overwhelming like
6:29
all the time, choose the one area that
6:32
you always need to keep under control.
6:36
For me, it's the kitchen. The kitchen is
6:38
something that gets messy multiple times
6:41
per day. But when the kitchen is clean,
6:43
it makes the entire house feel more
6:45
manageable. So instead of thinking I
6:46
need to clean my entire house every
6:49
single day, I just have my daily reset
6:51
zone inside of my kitchen as well as my
6:54
bathroom because sometimes I have like
6:56
toiletries, like hair products, makeup
6:59
products, lots of different things like
7:00
that on my bathroom countertop. So those
7:02
are my two daily resets zone because I
7:06
know that as long as that's done,
7:08
everything else probably won't take too
7:10
much from it. So, if I just stay on top
7:11
of that every single day and have my son
7:14
stay on top of cleaning his room, then I
7:16
feel like for the most part, we're good.
7:19
Now, this hack might be actually the
7:21
most important cleaning hack of all.
7:23
Stop chasing perfection and stop
7:25
expecting your home to look perfect all
7:28
the time, you guys. I promise it's okay.
7:30
Especially if you're like me and you
7:32
have children and if you're
7:34
homeschooling and like me, if you're
7:36
home all day, your home is going to look
7:40
lived in. There are going to be toys or
7:42
dishes or laundry or crumbs. That's not
7:44
saying don't clean it up. But what I'm
7:46
saying is it's okay if it's not perfect
7:50
every hour of the day or even every
7:52
single day. You don't have to beat
7:54
yourself up about that. It's literally
7:56
just completely normal. Then next is the
8:00
end of the day reset. This is one of my
8:03
favorite habits. Before going to bed,
8:06
just do a small reset. Nothing, you
8:09
know, too crazy, but just loading the
8:12
dishwasher or emptying the dishwasher so
8:14
that you can load it after dinner or the
8:16
next morning or putting some things back
8:18
where they belong, wiping down the
8:20
kitchen and just straightening up the
8:21
living room. Pick up anything that's
8:23
obviously out of place. things like that
8:26
is what I call like a small little
8:27
evening reset. And this is something
8:29
that might take about 15 minutes as well
8:32
at the most. It's not me doing a whole
8:34
house deep clean at night. But just
8:36
sweeping up a few things, picking up a
8:38
few things, and loading that dishwasher
8:40
is going to make the next morning a lot
8:42
easier. And sometimes I forget it and
8:45
regret to do it. cuz sometimes I'll
8:47
share a whole house clean with me video
8:49
and I'll show you guys my kitchen as to
8:51
where there may only be five dishes in
8:53
the sink opposed to a full sink of
8:55
dishes and there may only be like a few
8:58
things here and there which is again how
9:01
sometimes I'm able to do a whole house
9:02
clean within 1 hour. It's these few
9:05
little hacks that just makes cleaning a
9:08
lot more stressfree. And then the other
9:11
thing has helped me is stopping the idea
9:12
that cleaning has to be like its own
9:15
separate event. I actually don't film
9:18
every single cleaning session that I
9:20
have because sometimes it's simply just
9:22
a part of my normal daily rhythm where
9:25
I'm not like setting it out to be a
9:27
separate event. It is just one of those
9:29
things where you wake up and then you
9:31
make the bed or you wipe the bathroom
9:33
sink immediately after getting ready in
9:35
the morning. You put something away
9:37
after you use it. You do a quick kitchen
9:39
reset after a meal or you pick some
9:42
things up before moving on to the next
9:44
thing. It's just again home maintenance
9:46
and just maintaining things little by
9:49
little. And then once these things
9:50
become habits, your home doesn't have to
9:52
constantly go from completely messy to
9:56
completely clean. But you are in
9:58
maintenance mode and that is just so
10:01
much less stressful. At the end of the
10:03
day, I don't think the goal of
10:04
homemaking is to create a home that
10:07
looks perfect for other people. I think
10:09
the goal is to create a home that serves
10:11
the people who actually live in it. A
10:13
home where you can rest, one where your
10:15
children can play, a home where you
10:18
don't feel like you're constantly
10:20
behind. And sometimes creating that kind
10:22
of home means cleaning less, simplifying
10:25
more, and then letting go of the
10:26
expectation that everything has to be
10:28
perfect. So, if your home has felt
10:31
overwhelming lately, just start small
10:33
and pick one room, pick one surface, set
10:36
a 10-minute timer, and just begin. You
10:39
don't have to do everything today. You
10:41
just have to make your home feel a
10:42
little bit more peaceful than it did
10:44
when you started. Now, if you are in a
10:45
season where your home feels a little
10:47
bit overwhelming and you are craving
10:49
more than just cleaning tips, I've
10:51
created something specifically for that
10:53
called the 30 days to a peaceful home
10:55
and heart. It's a completely free
10:57
resource that is designed to help you
10:59
slow down, simplify, and create more
11:03
peace in both your home and your heart.
11:06
I actually go through and do this with
11:08
you as well in a playlist of videos
11:10
where I'm doing this whole 30-day reset
11:14
with you guys, decluttering all areas in
11:16
our life, our home, social life,
11:19
electronics, all the good stuff, you
11:21
guys. So, I'm going to leave a link down
11:22
below if it's something that you just
11:24
want to check out. It may be for you.
11:26
You don't have to completely transform
11:28
your home overnight, but sometimes peace
11:30
begins with one small decision at a
11:34
time. And then if you want to just go
11:36
beyond the 30-day reset, I also created
11:40
a book called the peaceful home reset.
11:42
This one is brand new and it is designed
11:45
to help you step back and simplify your
11:47
home while creating routines that's
11:49
going to actually support the life that
11:50
you are living in the long haul. And so
11:52
while the 30 days to a peaceful home and
11:54
heart reset is your 30day challenge to
11:57
challenge yourself to see how much you
11:59
can simplify and make your home a lot
12:01
easier to maintain within the 30 days. a
12:04
peaceful home reset is going to work
12:06
with you for the long call. It's going
12:08
to have plenty of different workbook
12:10
sessions as well as some checklist that
12:13
you can either pin on your fridge or
12:15
save it to your phone and add it to your
12:17
home screen. You can put it inside of
12:19
your planner or binder. And these are
12:20
going to have different checklists such
12:22
as weekend resets, 15-minute resets,
12:25
30-day decluttering challenges, as well
12:28
as some scripture in there and things
12:30
like that. So, a lot of really cool
12:32
resources inside of that one. So, I
12:34
would say check out that free resource
12:37
if it's something that you're interested
12:38
in and if you love it, also go ahead and
12:40
check out the newest ebook, The Peaceful
12:43
Home Reset. Not only does it actually
12:46
help me and support the channel, but I
12:48
think it's a really helpful resource
12:50
that's going to be great for you guys as
12:52
well. So, I'll have both of those linked
12:54
down below and then you can always find
12:57
them on my blog motherhood
12:59
andhomemaking.com as well. So, if you
13:02
enjoyed this video, you can let me know
13:04
by giving it a thumbs up. And if you're
13:05
new here, go ahead and subscribe. Down
13:07
in the comments, let me know what part
13:09
of keeping your home clean feels the
13:12
most stressful to you, and then we'll
13:15
talk about it in the next video. Thanks
13:17
so much for watching, and I'll see you
13:18
guys in the next one. Happy homemaking.
