If you've ever read Proverbs 31 in the
0:02
Bible and felt discouraged wondering how
0:04
are you supposed to live up to this
0:06
woman, you are not alone because just
0:08
like many other Christian women, moms,
0:10
and homemakers, we often hear about the
0:13
Proverbs 31 woman and picture a woman
0:15
who wakes up before everyone else, has a
0:18
perfectly clean home, makes everything
0:20
from scratch, never gets tired, never
0:23
loses her patience, and still somehow
0:25
has it all together. But, I think that
0:27
we can sometimes miss the big picture. I
0:31
don't think the Proverbs 31 passage or
0:34
chapter was written to make us feel like
0:36
we have to become perfect women, and
0:39
some of us can often leave feeling that
0:42
way. I think instead it gives us a
0:44
picture of
0:46
a woman who fears the Lord and allows
0:49
that to shape the way that she lives.
0:53
And the thing that I love so much about
0:55
that chapter is what she does is
1:00
actually pretty ordinary, and it can be
1:03
seen as mundane. She's caring for her
1:06
household, she's working, planning
1:08
ahead, providing, and being wise with
1:11
what she has. She's speaking with
1:13
kindness, and her life is full of the
1:16
same kinds of things that many of us are
1:19
doing every single day. So, today while
1:22
I clean and take care of my home, I'm
1:24
going to be talking a little bit about
1:26
Proverbs 31 and sharing six habits of a
1:30
Proverbs 31 woman. These are going to be
1:33
habits that I feel can really change the
1:36
way that we approach our homes, our
1:38
families, our responsibilities, and our
1:41
relationships with God. So, if you're
1:44
cleaning today, doing laundry, picking
1:46
up toys, washing dishes, or just trying
1:50
to reset your home after a long day or
1:52
before the school year, let's spend a
1:53
little bit of time together. Let's talk
1:55
about the Proverbs 31 woman in a real
1:59
and practical way.
2:30
Proverbs chapter 31:30
2:33
says, "Charm is deceitful and beauty is
2:35
passing, but a woman who fears the Lord,
2:38
she shall be praised."
2:40
The first habit that I'm talking about
2:43
today
2:44
of a Proverbs 31 woman is that she fears
2:47
the Lord above everything else.
2:50
And this is really the foundation of
2:52
everything. Before the Proverbs 31 woman
2:55
is productive or hard-working,
2:57
organized, or successful, she is a woman
3:00
who fears the Lord. And fearing the Lord
3:02
means honoring him, trusting him, and
3:05
wanting to live in a way that is
3:06
pleasing to him. And I think that
3:09
sometimes we become so focused on trying
3:11
to be a good wife, a good mom, a good
3:13
homemaker, or a good Christian woman
3:16
that we forget where our strength is
3:17
actually supposed to come from, and that
3:21
it is in serving the Lord, honoring him,
3:23
trusting him that actually puts out a
3:27
good and fruitful life for us. We can
3:29
often start trying to perform our way
3:31
into becoming the women that we think
3:33
we're supposed to be, but the Proverbs
3:36
31 woman wasn't valuable because she
3:38
checked every box. Her life actually
3:41
flowed from her relationship with God.
3:45
And that is something that I often have
3:47
to remind myself because I can clean my
3:50
entire house, but that's not the thing
3:52
that gives me peace. You can get
3:54
everything done and still feel anxious.
3:57
And we can make a beautiful meal, keep
3:59
up with laundry, and take care of
4:01
everyone around us, but still somehow
4:03
feel empty if we haven't made room for
4:07
God in our own heart. So, maybe the
4:10
first habit isn't waking up earlier or
4:14
making a better schedule. Maybe it's
4:16
simply starting with God, even if all
4:20
you have is a few minutes. A simple
4:23
prayer while you're washing dishes is
4:26
something that I've done many times when
4:28
I felt like I just couldn't slip away
4:30
for just a moment of just quiet time
4:32
alone.
4:34
Listening to scripture while you're
4:36
folding laundry or asking God to help
4:38
you with your attitude when you're
4:39
feeling overwhelmed. I've had so many
4:42
whispered prayers in the middle of the
4:45
kitchen floor in the middle of the
4:47
living room because I was starting to
4:48
feel a little bit overwhelmed. Just
4:51
inviting him into your ordinary day
4:55
because our goal isn't to have a
4:56
beautiful home, but to become a woman
4:58
whose heart belongs to the Lord. The
5:02
second habit is she is diligent with
5:05
what has been entrusted to her.
5:08
The Proverbs 31 woman is known for being
5:11
hard working. That is something we can
5:14
all for sure agree on. She takes care of
5:17
her household. She works with her hands.
5:20
She prepares for the future. She's
5:22
intentional with what has been placed in
5:24
her care, but I think diligent is
5:27
different from hustle. Diligence doesn't
5:30
mean running yourself into the ground.
5:32
It doesn't mean believing that your
5:33
worth is measured by how exhausted you
5:37
are at the end of the day. It's not
5:38
about getting it all done. It's about
5:41
being faithful
5:43
faithful with the home that you have,
5:45
faithful with the children you have, the
5:47
work that you have, and faithful with
5:50
the season that you are in. Because
5:53
sometimes I think we often look at our
5:54
lives and wish they were different
5:56
before we're willing to take care of
5:58
what we already have, thinking that we
6:00
need something more. We want a bigger
6:02
house, we want a better schedule, we
6:04
want more quiet time,
6:06
an easier season, more help, more money,
6:09
more time. It's just always something
6:11
more. And while it is completely okay to
6:14
want things to improve, I'm one who
6:17
often dreams very, very big. You can ask
6:20
my husband. But I think there is
6:22
something beautiful about learning to be
6:25
faithful right where we are first.
6:29
If your house is small or it's messy
6:31
because there are children living in it,
6:33
or you don't have hours every single day
6:35
to clean,
6:37
even if your routine does not look like
6:40
someone else's perfect routine, that's
6:41
okay. Because diligence doesn't have to
6:44
look impressive. Sometimes, diligence is
6:46
just doing the next thing. Loading the
6:50
dishwasher,
6:51
tidying up the floor, making dinner,
6:54
folding one basket of laundry, starting
6:57
over after a hard morning, and being
7:00
faithful in the small things. That all
7:03
still matters. And honestly,
7:05
that's something that homemaking has
7:08
taught me. That the work is repetitive.
7:11
The dishes are going to come back, the
7:13
laundry is going to come back, the
7:14
floors are going to get dirty again.
7:16
Taking care of our homes isn't
7:18
meaningless just because it has to be
7:20
repeated. There's beauty in faithfully
7:23
caring for what God has given us. The
7:26
third habit of a Proverbs 31 woman is
7:29
that she prepares instead of living in
7:32
constant panic.
7:34
Proverbs 31 describes a woman who thinks
7:37
ahead. She's prepared for her household.
7:40
And I think preparation is one of the
7:41
habits that can bring so much more peace
7:44
into our homes. One thing that I often
7:47
would talk about when I'm doing like my
7:49
home school videos is the crazy hour. We
7:52
joke about it. I tell my husband it's
7:54
crazy hour and my son, we laugh about
7:56
it. Basically, it is the hour of the day
7:59
that's the craziest in our home and it
8:02
happens like clockwork. It's just in our
8:04
schedule. It's when for some reason the
8:06
kids have the most energy, especially my
8:09
2-year-old. And we're in the middle of
8:11
like trying to do home school
8:14
and I'm trying to keep the toddler
8:16
entertained while trying to teach home
8:18
school. My husband is in the middle of
8:20
working so he kind of can't help out so
8:22
much and
8:24
everyone is, you know, just full of
8:26
energy. It's like prime hour and knowing
8:29
this, being prepared for it, helps me to
8:32
go in with a different mindset. It helps
8:35
me to pray before going in it and it
8:37
just makes me feel a little bit more
8:40
calm because I know that soon it will
8:43
pass and I knew that it was coming so I
8:45
was able to prepare for it. The thing is
8:47
that a prepared home doesn't mean
8:49
everything is always going to be perfect
8:52
or spotless. There is going to be crazy
8:53
hour. There's going to be chaos. It
8:55
doesn't mean you never forget anything
8:58
or that every meal is perfectly planned.
9:01
It simply means that you're trying to
9:03
make life a little bit easier for
9:05
yourself before the chaos begin.
9:10
And usually that could be with a prayer
9:13
or it could be resetting the kitchen
9:15
before bed, reading a devotion, laying
9:18
out clothes the night before, keeping
9:20
simple meals on hand or doing a lot of
9:23
laundry before it becomes ten loads,
9:25
keeping your home stocked with the
9:28
things that your family uses regularly,
9:31
creating simple systems instead of
9:34
waiting until everything becomes
9:36
overwhelming and I think that this is
9:38
especially important for those of us who
9:40
feel like we're constantly behind. So,
9:45
No, you don't have to fix your entire
9:47
life today. Just try preparing for one
9:52
thing. What is one problem that keeps
9:55
repeating in your home? Maybe mornings
9:57
feel chaotic. Could you prepare
9:59
something the night before? Maybe dinner
10:01
always feel stressful. You could try to
10:04
create a simple list of meals that your
10:06
family already enjoys without looking up
10:09
a brand new recipe. Maybe the house gets
10:11
overwhelming by the end of the day.
10:13
Maybe spend 10 minutes resetting just
10:16
one room each day because preparation is
10:20
really just an act of wisdom. And wisdom
10:23
is something that we can gain from the
10:25
Lord. Wisdom is saying that I know life
10:28
can get busy. So, I'm going to do what I
10:30
can now to make things easier later. And
10:33
that doesn't have to be complicated.
10:35
Sometimes the simplest system are the
10:37
ones that we actually
10:39
stick to. Habit number four is that she
10:42
is wise with what she has.
10:46
One thing that I really love about the
10:47
Proverbs 31 woman is that she isn't
10:49
described as careless.
10:52
She's thoughtful. She considers things.
10:55
She works and provides and makes wise
10:58
decisions. And I think that wisdom in
11:00
our homes can look very ordinary. It can
11:03
look like using what you already have
11:05
before you buy more. Something that some
11:09
of us call shopping our own home or
11:11
minimalism. It can look like taking care
11:13
of the things that you own, cooking food
11:16
before it goes to waste, being
11:17
intentional about spending your money.
11:21
And not constantly comparing your home
11:23
or lifestyle to someone else's, but
11:25
learning to live within your means and
11:27
being grateful for what God has already
11:29
provided for us.
11:31
I think that social media can make us
11:33
feel like we always need something else,
11:38
like a better organizer, more seasonal
11:41
decor, better appliances or cleaning
11:44
supplies, more trendy clothes, more
11:47
products, even a bigger a bigger house.
11:50
But, I for one have definitely learned
11:54
that peace usually comes when we stop
11:56
adding more
11:58
and taking better care of what we
12:00
already have. In fact, I have found that
12:03
when I add more things to my home, to my
12:06
schedule, that is when I start to lose
12:08
peace and become more overwhelmed.
12:11
By the way, you guys, if you hear a lot
12:14
of things going on in the background,
12:16
little noises, that's just my
12:17
2-year-old. I'm holding her as I edit
12:21
this video, so she's here
12:24
with us, and that's what you guys may be
12:27
hearing in the background. But, what I'm
12:29
trying to say is that I'm learning that
12:32
more isn't always the answer, and
12:35
sometimes what we need is less to
12:36
manage, less clutter, less spending,
12:39
less comparison, and less pressure to
12:42
keep up. A wise woman does not have to
12:45
have everything, it's that she learns
12:48
how to steward
12:50
what she has. And that can be a
12:51
beautiful habit to practice in
12:53
homemaking. Before buying something new,
12:56
ask yourself, do you actually need it?
12:59
And before throwing away, ask, can I use
13:02
this? Before comparing, remind yourself
13:05
that God has been good to us right here,
13:08
right where we are.
13:10
Wisdom can bring so much contentment
13:13
into our homes.
13:15
Habit number five is she speaks with
13:18
kindness. Proverbs chapter 31:26
13:22
says that she opens her mouth
13:25
with wisdom, and on her tongue is the
13:27
law of kindness. And this one can be
13:31
challenging, surprisingly, for a lot of
13:35
us because it's easy to be kind when
13:37
everything is going well. It's easy when
13:38
everyone's listening, when the house is
13:40
clean, the kids are happy, and when
13:43
we're well-rested. But what about when
13:45
we are overstimulated? Or what about
13:47
when we have been asked the same
13:49
question over and over again
13:52
five times, or when we're cleaning up
13:55
another mess, begging our children to
13:58
tidy up behind themselves, or when we've
14:00
just had a hard day. This is when
14:02
kindness can
14:04
feel a little bit more difficult.
14:06
Kindness is something that has to become
14:08
a habit, and not something that we do
14:10
when we just feel like it. And I think
14:12
the words that we speak can completely
14:14
change the atmosphere of our homes, and
14:17
it can also encourage others around us,
14:20
our spouse, our children, our friends to
14:22
be kind, too. Our families may not
14:25
remember every single meal we made, or
14:28
even whether the floors were always
14:29
clean, but they will remember how our
14:33
home felt, and they will remember our
14:35
words, how we spoke to them, what we
14:37
said, and how it made them feel. And I'm
14:40
not trying to say that we are not going
14:41
to have hard days because we will, and
14:44
I'm not saying that we never get
14:45
frustrated. We will.
14:47
But I want to be a woman who knows how
14:49
to pause, to apologize when I'm wrong,
14:53
and to ask God to help me control my
14:57
words. So remember that correction
14:59
doesn't have to be cruel, and that
15:01
exhaustion doesn't give me permission to
15:04
tear down the people that I love, or be
15:06
mean to them. And honestly, sometimes
15:08
kindness starts with being kind to
15:11
ourselves, too.
15:13
Not looking at ourselves as failures
15:15
because the house is a mess, or
15:16
believing that we're bad parents because
15:18
we're overwhelmed, or our children have
15:21
screen time, or they ate McDonald's, not
15:23
speaking negatively over ourselves all
15:26
the time. The law of kindness should be
15:29
on our tongues when we speak to others,
15:31
but I think we also need to learn to
15:33
speak with grace to ourselves as well.
15:36
The sixth habit of a Proverbs 31 woman
15:39
is that she built her life with
15:40
intention. The Proverbs 31 woman wasn't
15:44
just drifting through life. She was
15:46
actually intentional. And this is
15:49
something that I had to learn because I
15:51
always used to joke about how I just go
15:53
with the flow. That is just how I was.
15:57
And I think that that's a habit that I
15:59
need to take the most. Living
16:02
intentionally doesn't mean planning
16:03
every minute of every day, but it's
16:05
about knowing what matters to you for
16:07
sure and knowing what you're building
16:09
and what you want your life to be
16:12
centered around and being intentional
16:14
about placing that in every
16:17
single day. For me, I don't want to look
16:18
back one day and realize that I spent
16:20
all my time chasing things that actually
16:23
didn't even matter and spent all my
16:25
money on stuff that
16:27
was wasteful or unimportant. I want to
16:29
remember that my children were only
16:31
little for a short time.
16:34
I want to remember that my marriage
16:36
needed attention, too. And I want to
16:38
remember that my home didn't have to be
16:40
perfect to be full of love. I want to
16:42
remember that my relationship with God
16:44
is what mattered more to me than the
16:46
image I presented to other people. And
16:51
that's what I think intentional living
16:53
really is, choosing your priorities on
16:56
purpose.
16:58
Saying no to some things so you can say
17:00
yes to what actually matters the most
17:03
and slowing down enough to notice your
17:05
own life. We can take care of our homes
17:07
without making home making an idol,
17:11
without making it our identity.
17:14
And we can love our family while
17:15
remembering that God is the center of it
17:19
all.
17:20
Maybe that's what the Proverbs 31 woman
17:22
really reminds us of. Not that we have
17:25
to do everything, but that we can live
17:28
with purpose. We can be faithful and
17:31
grown wisdom, care for our homes, speak
17:34
with kindness,
17:35
and prepare for our futures,
17:38
while keeping God at the center of our
17:40
hearts. So, as I finish cleaning and
17:42
resetting my home today, that is what I
17:46
want to remember. I don't have to be
17:48
perfect. I don't have to have it all
17:50
together, or become someone else,
17:53
but I can simply ask God to help me
17:56
become more faithful with the life that
17:58
he has given me one habit at a time, one
18:02
room at a time, and one day at a time.
18:04
So, if you're in a season where
18:06
homemaking feels repetitive or
18:08
overwhelming, I hope that this may be
18:11
encouraged you today.
18:13
The work that you're doing may feel
18:15
ordinary, but a faithful life is often
18:18
built in ordinary moments. So, thank you
18:20
so much for spending this time with me
18:21
today and watching this video. I hope
18:23
that you enjoyed it. If so, I hope that
18:25
you would give it a thumbs up, and I
18:27
would love for you to subscribe for more
18:29
faith-filled motherhood and homemaking
18:30
content. Down below in the comments, let
18:33
me know which one of these six habits do
18:36
you feel God is calling you to work on
18:39
right now.
18:41
I'll see you guys in the next video.
18:42
Happy homemaking.
20:22
>> Candlelight in the dark.
20:25
Weight of a broken heart.
20:29
Knees falling on the floor.
20:32
I could hear you pray.
20:35
Listen, I won't forget
20:38
the way that you called me back.
20:41
Because of the hope you had,
20:45
I'm forever changed.
20:48
Yeah.
20:51
I'm forever
20:53
changed because of you.
20:57
Yeah.
21:00
It's your faith
21:04
that made those mountains move.
21:08
is your faith
21:10
that brought me to the truth.
21:13
It's the way you called heaven down when
21:17
you prayed for where I am now.
21:20
It's your faith.
21:22
It's your faith that made those
21:25
mountains
21:27
move.
21:30
Move, how you made those mountains
21:33
move.
21:36
Yeah, yeah.
21:39
All of the pain you faced,
21:42
the trials and wars you overcame.
21:45
Every road that you paved,
21:49
thank you for it all.
21:52
I wish you could see me now,
21:55
way up beyond those clouds. I think I'll
21:59
make you proud.
22:01
And your prayers haven't let me fall.
22:04
It's your
22:06
faith
22:08
that made those mountains move.
22:10
It's your
22:12
faith
22:14
that brought me to the truth.
22:17
It's the way you called heaven down
22:20
when you
22:21
prayed for where I am now.
22:24
It's your
22:25
faith.
22:26
It's your faith.
22:29
It's your faith
22:33
that made those mountains move.
22:36
It's your
22:37
faith
22:40
that brought me to the truth. It's the
22:44
way you called heaven down
22:46
when you
22:47
prayed for where I am now.
22:49
It's your
22:50
faith.
22:52
It's your faith that made those
22:55
mountains
22:56
move.
23:00
Move, how you made those mountains move.
23:02
mountains
23:03
Ooh
23:06
Ooh, that made those mountains
23:09
Ooh
23:12
Ooh, that made those mountains
23:16
Ooh
23:19
Ooh
23:21
It's your faith
23:24
that made those mountains move.
23:27
It's your faith
23:31
that brought me to the truth. It's the
23:35
way you called heaven down when you
23:38
prayed for where I am now. It's your
23:41
faith.
23:43
It's your faith that made those
23:46
mountains move.
