Hey everybody, welcome back to the Senators Roundtable
0:04
I'm your host Jacob Billington, joined by Paul Quinney and Dayton Rimer, as usual. It's actually, I feel like it's been a long time since the three of us have been together
0:11
So I guess it's not as usual this time. But Dayton, how are you doing
0:16
Good, yeah. It's nice to be back with the big group, I guess. Good
0:20
Paul, how are you? Hey, great, I'm cleaning out my basement. You'll never guess what I discovered
0:27
See that? Oh, that's awesome. Yeah, that's going back, the original Peace Tower logo
0:33
And that's actually an away sweater there because it's black. But I Google it
0:39
I did not know this. It was never worn during an NHL game
0:44
And apparently the rumor is when the league saw it, they said, now, not approved
0:49
So I love that. You never know what you get in your basement. Awesome
0:54
So it's been a fantastic day for Ottawa Senators News. in the past couple days really have been a whirlwind of emotions for senators fans
1:03
But the biggest thing without question is Shane Pinto signing a two-year deal at 3.75 million
1:09
He's going to stick around until he's 25 years old. Then he's got one year left of RFA rights
1:13
And then he'll have arbitration rights as well. What are your thoughts on the deal
1:18
What are your thoughts on everything that happened leading up to the deal
1:22
There was rumors of a trade request that were shut down almost immediately
1:25
there were rumors of the Islanders maybe pitching a trade at them
1:31
I don't know. It was a bit of a mess for a couple days. And I feel like Shane Pinto just got to the point and said
1:36
let's just get this done. I'm tired of all this noise. That's how it feels to me
1:41
But Dayton, what are your thoughts? I think it's a great deal. I think I saw it was 2.5 for this year and then $5 million for next year
1:49
I think that's a very fair kind of meat in the middle ground type of thing
1:54
I can see his next contract being upwards of that $5 million per season
1:58
So, yeah, that's fine. The trade request was strange. I don't deny that there might have been something around
2:11
Mainly just kind of comparing that to the Jacob Chikrin situation where it was
2:15
oh, no, he doesn't want to leave. He's great here. Everything's fine
2:19
And then all of a sudden it's like, yeah, I think he's tired of it
2:23
because it just never went away. And I think that probably was being felt by Shane's camp
2:30
So to hear that maybe they were thinking of like, yeah, we don't want this anymore
2:36
I don't doubt that. But Staeos, I think, did the right thing
2:41
Watch that really quickly. It's like, all right, let's put pen to paper. Let's get this over with. Yeah, it was a very chaotic couple days in terms of Shane Pinta rumors
2:51
Paul, what are your thoughts on the whole, the signing the rumors, everything
2:56
Well, if there's Steve Stato's, I think you're happy that you ended up here. You know, essentially what you have is a two-year bridge deal
3:04
And in contrast to what I think here, Dori on would have done, specifically hand out another eight by eight
3:11
He used to hand those things out like candy. You know what? 2.5 million this year, 5 million next
3:17
That gives the organization a chance to size this kid up. Is the real deal
3:21
So I, from that standpoint, sure, I thought it was a good one
3:26
As for Lewis Gross, his agent, I don't know what planet this got from
3:33
If you look at, like, come on, Lewis, what options did Tinto have here
3:41
He's not eligible for any arbitration whatsoever. And I laughed when I saw he was trying, his agent
3:51
rather, was trying to go out and get other teams to make an offer. That is just not going to happen in this league
4:00
I can't recall a situation where another team, you know, with a restricted free agent, the likes of Pinto
4:12
actually made an offer. And if they did, I think what would they have to give up their first and third round pick
4:21
Well, I mean, come on, Steyos didn't fall off a turnip truck
4:26
I don't know what he thought. He must have seen that coming a mile away. I don't know why Lewis Gross, you know, the agent even bothered with it
4:34
Made him look amateurs. Yeah, it was a common case of negotiating through the media from the agent
4:43
And you saw that. So, Lewis Gross has a number of big ticket players in the NHL
4:49
He doesn't have a ton. He doesn't have a ton of NHL regular players
4:53
But just a couple of his biggest clients William Nealander A ton of media negotiations with him
4:58
That's probably the most infamous case really Johnny Godreau Near the end of his contract
5:04
A lot of media negotiating Tori Krug That's a good deal for Krug
5:10
He got him Got him to the bag there He got Rasmus Sandin 4.6 million dollars
5:15
For four years was it I believe I think that Louis Gross gets his players the money that they feel they deserve
5:25
Brandon Sods in there too. Ross Colton, who just signed a big deal. There's a lot of contracts that Lewis Gross is part of
5:34
And in most cases, he is negotiating through the media. Not surprised this is where it went at all
5:40
Yeah. Didn't know that. So what do you think he's, you know, in two years from now, what do you think Pinto is going to be worth
5:47
What's he going to be signing? They're going to want to go long term because he'll only have one RFA year left
5:54
They'll want to get as much term as possible. I could see like a five or six year deal at six and a half million
6:01
That's kind of where my prediction is right now, a year from two years from today. Obviously, that could go way up
6:06
That could go way down. But if I'm to make a prediction today, that's what it is. Yeah
6:12
Well, you know, congrats to Staisos. He's got a deal here that is probably where he should be two years
6:17
your bridge deal and then we'll see uh do you have any last thoughts on that date and before we move on
6:23
no i think you guys kind of nailed it uh the only thing i uncovered when i was writing a piece about
6:29
steyos and some hirings was uh that he went to the uh steve ezerman's school of gming so i don't
6:37
think he's wanted to get pushed around he's uh yeah he seems like he's a smart guy i don't think
6:43
he's made a ton of really substantial moves. There's been a couple
6:48
They've been great. Nothing really negative yet. I think he, I think he's willing to either deal or you don't
6:58
And that's kind of how Eisenman does it. It worked well for Eisenman. I think Steyos is following in that suit
7:03
So yeah, happy with it. So we didn't get a chance to really talk about the Linus
7:08
Allmark trade on the show. Dayton, you and I covered it a little bit just when talking about the mock draft
7:13
But we didn't get to really talk about the trade as a whole. Do you have any quick thoughts on that
7:17
I feel like that's extremely old news, but it happened four days ago. I feel like that's in the distant past
7:24
But, Paul, do you have any thoughts on the Linus Olmark trade? Because it was Linus Olmark for the 25th overall pick, who the Bruins used to select Dean Littorneau
7:33
It was a third round pick, and it was Mark Castellick. Sorry, not a third round pick
7:39
You want to score Psalow. I third round pick on my mind that we're going to talk to talk about later
7:46
What are your thoughts on the deal? Is it a good deal for Ottawa? Is it a home run
7:50
Is it just me? What are your thoughts? Well, a question I have is where's the term
7:57
You know, I hope they're not in a situation that they were in with De Brincad and Teresanko
8:05
I can't really blame Allmark. If I'm him, okay, I'll come to a
8:10
a team that's not really a playoff and tender, and I'll bide my time and see how they
8:15
they pan out for me. And if I don't like what I see, if they're not going in the right
8:19
direction, then I'm gone. So the terms, you know, with Corpus Sal going and the senators
8:29
retain, what a quarter of his salary? And what was the other? Mark Castellic, yeah, Castellic, yeah. I can't really quarrel with that
8:40
I thought they were on Corpusel You know that about as good as you going to do I thought he was just untradable So on balance had it not been for the questionable term the questions associated with that
8:54
I'd say, yeah, good deal. Dayton, what are your thoughts? I think it was as good of a deal as you could have done for Elmar
9:02
You got rid of Corpusallo, who was sort of weighing down the team with a really nasty contract and even worse numbers
9:08
it cost them a first round pick. Thankfully, the Bruins used it on Dean Laeterno
9:14
who is maybe the riskiest pick of the first round. Yeah. That was a swing, and I hope he turns out, I have my doubts
9:24
He's a Bruin, though. Like, you look at Dean LaTourneau, and you look at him and you say he is a Bruin
9:30
Oh, 100%. If anyone was going to take him, it was going to be Boston
9:34
because that's what it was going to do, right? I don't know
9:37
it made a lot of sense, but I still think it was a big, big swing. I'm sad to see Casillick go
9:44
I liked him as a senator, but he's a bottom six guy
9:49
He's replaceable. And I think he did well, but I think others will do just as well filling in
9:56
Yeah, and Allmark should come in and stabilize a few things. But, you know, I'll beat my drum again
10:03
It's not the goalie's fault that the senators were so bad. I think it's a whole structure
10:11
And thankfully there's a whole bunch of new coaches there, which should turn things around
10:15
And there's some new defensemen, which also should help turn things around. Yeah
10:19
my quick thoughts on the Linus Olmerc trade is even if this is just a one-year thing
10:24
and Olmerk goes to unrestricted free agency next year, this trade is still a win for the senators
10:28
Like a first round pick in Castellick to move on from Yonis Corpusallo
10:32
and get a year of a goaltender that won the Vezna a year ago
10:36
I think that that's a great deal even without an extension. At this point with what they gave up
10:43
obviously I would be a little bit upset to see him just walk because you have a fantastic goaltender coming into the organization
10:49
You don't want to just let him walk away. But if him walking away does happen
10:55
I don't think this trade ages very poorly. Go ahead, Paul. No, I would think if he does walk away at the trade deadline
11:06
And there's going to be substantial returns for him. Yeah, and that's another great point
11:12
But I just think, like, what's the value of one year of Linus Omerk
11:17
Well, you would think we were talking about first round pick and Jacob Chikrin. And then you look at Jonas Corpusala, what's the cost to dump him
11:25
Is it just Mara Kastelik? Absolutely not. So you're paying less than a first round pick worth of value for Linus Omer
11:31
So even if it's for one year, I'm totally fine with that. So moving on to another trade that the Ottawa Senators made
11:39
This one was Jacob Chikrin, who I just mentioned. So Jacob Chikrin goes to the Washington Capitals for Nick Jensen and a third round draft pick
11:49
Not the value that Steve Stales was hoping he was going to get. I don't hate the trade at all
11:53
The value is not there. But I think the fit and the player type makes the trade make more sense than if you're just looking at
12:01
like if you go in NHL 24 and plug in the players and look at the trade value bar
12:06
It's going to be very lopsided, I think. But I don't hate this trade as much as the value may present it to be a bad trade
12:13
What do you think, Dayton? No, I like it. I think as much as Chikrin was good offensively
12:21
he was really struggling defensively with this team. And he just couldn't
12:27
Not sure if you guys heard that, but we've got a thunderstorm going on over in Saskatoon here
12:33
Just shook my entire upper floor here. Yeah, wow. Apologies. Yeah, so Chikrin hasn't been doing fantastic. He put up good points, but when he was paired with almost anyone else, he struggled. He didn't have that person that he could rely on to play that more defensive role. So to get a really solid defenseman from the capitals in Nick Jensen and also a third round pick, I think is a pretty good win
13:06
also they save money, right? Nick Jensen's only making $4.05 million until 25-26
13:14
So they have them locked up longer than they do Chikrin, I think. Yeah
13:19
Yeah, okay. Chikrin has one year left and Jensen has this year or next
13:23
Okay, that's what I thought, but I started questioning myself. I've been a little iffy on some of my stats lately
13:30
But no, I think it's a great deal. I really like Jensen. I think he's underrated
13:34
he can be a 30 point guy. He's only done it like once
13:38
but it's in his wheelhouse, so maybe he can do that with Ottawa too
13:45
Yeah, he's a physical. So he doesn't get credited with a ton of hits
13:49
but he is physical. He's going to knock you off the puck. He might not blow you up and get registered for a hit
13:55
but he is not afraid to play a physical game. And he blocks a ton of shots
14:01
He's going to be great for Jake Sanderson or Thomas Shabbat, whoever's side he plays on, probably going to be Shabbat
14:08
And he blocks a ton of shots too and he kills penalties. So I really like the deal as well
14:14
What do you think, Paul? Yeah, I can't quarrel with it. I have to admit, it wasn't on my radar
14:20
I don't think it was on very many people's radar. It tells me that Stalos lost the sweepstakes for Chris Tanna and Matt Roy out of Los Angeles
14:31
us. So, you know, the market is what the market is. You know, he can't go out and make these dream
14:41
picks that everybody wants them to do. But, you know, he brings a lot of experience. He's 33. I think
14:49
he's been in the league for eight seasons. And as Dayton was pointing out, you know, he can score 30
14:58
points and you know stay at home defenseman he'll mind the barn and let uh shabbat and i'm assuming he
15:04
i agree with you he'll play with shabbat let shabbat work his offensive magic
15:08
yeah and shabat really needs somebody like that he's played a lot with zubb he played with de mello
15:14
that's about it and he hasn't even been consistently with zoom so um it'll be really interesting to see
15:21
how his game readapt to playing less minutes playing with somebody that isn't nikita zyts of
15:28
playing just his game of hockey again. And again, like not playing 26, 27 minutes a night
15:34
There's a lot of hard miles on that body already. I think that there's more than enough reason to believe that he can go back to a really good two-way player and make his pairing more balanced
15:47
Because obviously he was trying to do everything for the last number of years by himself
15:54
One other player, or sorry, one other trade that happened was Matthew Johnson
15:58
Joseph to the St. Louis Blues, along with a third round pick for future considerations
16:03
We thought this would happen at this time last year. I wasn't ready for that to be the deal this year
16:10
What do you think, Paul? Is that, I don't know, just what are your thoughts on the trade
16:17
Well, you know, it's a salary dump. They needed to do it to sign a Pinto
16:23
I always chuckle when I hear future considerations. it means nothing is coming back
16:30
So, but, you know, look, he was a disappointment. He was the basis of that Nick Paul trade
16:37
Tampa Bay got the better of that trade. And he never lived up the expectations
16:42
Time to go. Dayton, what do you think? Pretty much the same as Paul
16:47
He was a cap casualty. And the senators had to take a loss on for someone eating his cap
16:54
and that cost them a third round pick, which was okay because they got one from Washington
17:00
So I think it kind of balances. You ship them out. You get some future considerations
17:07
Well, you know, the other thing, too, is they were trying to move him going back into midwinter
17:13
Didn't get any takers. So, you know, they're lucky they got rid of him at that price
17:19
Yeah, it's really interesting because people are saying, oh, Steve Stato's, you had, you did a terrible job
17:24
the chicken trade you did a terrible job like paying assets to get rid of Matthew Joseph he just cleaning up here Dorian disastrous mess that he left the organization And that all he doing right now So we are 184 days since Steve Stios has been named General Manager
17:41
So just six months and three days. There are only 13 players that played in Ottawa last year still on the roster
17:51
That's a lot of turnover. Like that's seven, eight guys that are already moved on
17:57
And there's probably going to be a few more as well. You look at the roster, the ones that are still here are the key guys
18:06
like Stutzel, Kachuk, and Giroux and Batherson. Like, you're not getting rid of them
18:12
There's been a lot of turnover on this roster. So a couple of the players that were shipped out or not signed at least
18:20
Eric Brandstrom, Parker Kelly, Boris Kachuk, whatever, Dominic Kubelik, and I believe that's it
18:30
Those are NHL players. Most of them are NHL players. But what are your thoughts on just some of these guys that get shipped out
18:40
Sorry, not shipped out. I have trades on the mind. Weren't qualified or just let go as UFAs
18:46
What do you think, Dayton, out of those names? I always liked Brandstrom
18:52
I'm sad to see him go, but I also wrote a piece that he needed to go
18:56
and that was a while back. He wasn't going to work in Ottawa
19:00
and even if everything changed and they got a brand new system for a plan
19:07
they kind of already screwed that up. That's not going to fix
19:11
how Brandstrom is going to work in Ottawa. It was a failed experiment
19:17
and unfortunately it was a massive experiment to take on because it cost them Mark Stone
19:23
and that's always going to be one of Dorian's biggest legacies is he shipped out a fan favorite for Eric Brantstrom
19:32
and you got nothing from it. On his proudest day as a general manager
19:37
Proudest day as a GM. Like, I think that's my second favorite Dorian quaint behind word
19:44
or quote behind we're a team. Yeah. Yeah, a guy for quotes, that's for sure
19:52
Yeah. man um some of the other ones i like parker kelly i like boris kachuk uh again like a castle like they're
20:00
replaceable um they played bottom six minutes they filled out well but it's not like you can't find
20:08
those guys who would be even better fits or potentially cheaper prices um tuba leak was always destined
20:16
to leave he just did not work in ottawa and that was kind of dorion's last ditch effort to get
20:22
something back from another horrendous trade. The dude could not trade guys
20:29
Someone should have stopped him years ago. Yeah, I think Dayton touches on it being there
20:38
fit in Ottawa, and the guys that left, there arguably wasn't a fit
20:44
I mean, Brantstrom, look, he's already got another job, right? He's signed with the Colorado Amalanche
20:50
So that tells you something. he just didn't fit in Ottawa. Another guy would be Kugelik
20:56
You know, he certainly didn't jail in Ottawa at all. But then when you look at his performance in that world hockey championship in the spring
21:07
I mean, the guy led Chetchep, right? So it's, you know, people to excel have to be, there has to be a fit
21:20
And, you know, that was a. problem with Brant Starram, Kubelik, and arguably Joseph as well
21:26
You know, he was a good player in Tampa. Didn't Jadil here? Matthew Joseph really hurts because how much would this team, how much better would this
21:34
team be with Nick Paul? Like, I think that Nick Paul would be, I mean, how much better would they be
21:41
Maybe not much better, but much better than what Matthew Joseph brought
21:47
That trait hurts. what really hurts too is I do not as I recall there wasn't that much salary separating the Ottawa senators and Nick Paul right
21:58
No it was like 500,000. Yeah. Yeah. That's it. Oh, yeah. Gross
22:04
Yeah. So a couple names that came in. We already talked about Linus Olmerk and Nick Jensen
22:10
David Perron. So in the free agency recap that we did on the hockey writer's YouTube channel, I said that
22:18
the most surprising deal of the day was David Perron, not signing with Ottawa, but signing with Ottawa
22:24
Like the fit makes sense. The deal makes sense. David Peron in Ottawa does not make sense in my head after receiving a six-game
22:32
suspension for cross-checking Artem Zub in the side of the head last year. It was him
22:38
Yeah. I just, the most surprising thing to me was of the 31 teams
22:43
I wouldn't have been surprised with any team. Any team can use a David Peron. but there was only one team I was crossing off the list for potential suitors
22:50
and that was the Ottawa Senators, just for that. So I expect that David Perron is going to buy Zuba Rolex in the coming months
22:57
What do you think of the signing outside of that, Dayton? So I keep thinking that David Perron is done, and like, okay, he's getting older
23:09
He's like he's 36 right now. He can't keep going at the same pace
23:13
And then he does. he keeps doing like he's consistent consistent as I'll get out
23:20
he goes to St. Louis puts up 60 points in 2019-20 and then he goes to Detroit in 22-23
23:28
and puts up 56 points like he doesn't seem to age so I think it could be actually
23:35
a fantastic fit for the senators who need a guy who can
23:40
slot into that top six and kind of solidify things make things a little bit stronger, especially in that third line
23:47
You can bump some guys down, make that a really strong line. Yeah, I think it's maybe not the sexiest of signings
23:56
but I think it could have some really big results. Yeah, he took a little bit of a step back this year
24:06
but it's only 17 goals and 47 points. But for $4 million, you take that absolutely
24:11
What did you say? So did the Red Wings. Yeah, exactly. And they had a ton of moving pieces
24:17
They had a ton of young players. They were trying to get into the top six. And you see a lot of Red Wings fans saying that his game fell off at the end of the season
24:25
He wasn't even in their top six spot at the end of the year. Yeah, that's because they were just elevating the young guys that they had once the season was
24:31
like, especially at the tail end when they were losing a lot. They just put some young guys up there
24:38
So, yeah, I like it. One really cool fact. So this is going to be the one, two, three
24:44
four, five, the seventh, eighth team that David Perron plays for. Ottawa is only the third team, second team outside of St. Louis, that he has signed a contract with
24:58
which is insane to me. Like Detroit last year was the second team he's ever signed a contract with
25:04
And that blows my mind because he's played for Edmonton, Pittsburgh, Anaheim, Vegas, and the blues, of course
25:09
And last year was the first time he signed a contract, not in St. Louis. but yeah that was just kind of a fun tidbit i i learned paul what are your thoughts on the signing
25:20
well just really quick i think steos is doing what he said he would do and that is bringing
25:26
vet for an experience which the club desperately needs and here you've got a 17 year vet in the
25:33
n hl who has by the way won a stanley cup in 2019 with st louis so i think some of that
25:41
DNA could insert itself into the Ottawa senators. Good move. Are there any cup champions on Ottawa except for Peron
25:54
I don't think so. Another one will be Amadio, right? Oh, yes, Michael Amadio
25:59
Yes. So they got two, which is, you know, what Steyo is going to do, bring in some quality
26:06
veteran experience. I think he's done it. Yeah, what are your thoughts on the Amadio signing
26:15
You know he can score 30 points a year right Looking at his history nothing flashy won a cup with Vegas
26:24
Uh, if I've got this right, I think he scored, uh, 10 points in 16 games
26:29
That's not too bad for a journeyman and, uh, left winger. Uh, so I think, you know, he's a solid bottom six guy
26:37
And, um, that's what's required here. Um, you know, solidify that bottom six
26:43
and try to get their scoring up. If I recall the stat correctly, I did
26:49
I calculated it. I think the bottom six only scored about 5% of the Senator's points last season
26:56
So you've got to have more than that to winning this league
27:01
That doesn't surprise me at all. And I will add Nick Jensen won the Stanley Cup in 2018 as well
27:06
So they added three Stanley Cup champions yesterday. Dayton, what are your thoughts on Amadio
27:13
Yeah, I like him. I think, you know, I was mentioning that Caslick, Kelly, those guys, you know, are sad to see leave
27:24
but you can find better replacements for them. I think that's Amadio. He is a better replacement than both of those guys, and he's essentially taking over for them
27:31
in the third or fourth line. So no complaints, contracts may be a little bit higher than I would have liked, but I think
27:38
it's worth what he brings to the team. he had in case anyone forgot 10 points in 16 playoff games in 2023 which is wild for a bottom 6 forward
27:51
yeah yeah and i mean i remember him playing a lot more than just five games with ottawa but i i guess
28:00
i'm wrong he only has five games with ottawa that year that he was um claimed off waivers but
28:07
i don't know i remember like a 25 game stint or something i remember being really impressed by him but
28:11
I don't know. But yeah, he's a really good defensive bottom six winger
28:15
He's great in his own end, and obviously he can chip in the 25, 30 points
28:20
Again, like you said, Dayton, 2.6 is a bit high for my taste. I would have been happier around like 1.7, 1.8
28:27
But you know what? I have nothing to complain about that deal. We can just throw these two in together
28:36
Noah Greger and Adam Guddett. The hockey god is back. what are your thoughts on those two signings
28:44
I mean, they're both going to be 13th forwards, maybe see some AHL time
28:49
I hope is the expectation, not to fill in the second line left wing spot
28:53
I sure hope. But what are your thoughts on the signings, Dayton
28:58
Great. Noah Greger was a strong bottom six forward with the Leafs
29:06
He's, you know, he's won at least a WHL title, back with the Prince Albert Raiders in 2019
29:14
Yeah, he's good. I like him. Adam Gaudette, yep, great. Is this a second stint
29:21
Yep, second stint with the senators. We know he kind of fits, and he's been a great HL producer
29:27
I'd imagine he kind of returns to that, maybe pairing up with Garrett Pilon
29:35
I don't know, yeah, they're good. Great. Love to have him. I will add, just you mentioned Garry Pilon and the Belleville Senators
29:43
They made a ton of really nice signings today. And I really, or the last two days, I guess
29:49
Philip Ruse, I like that edition. Again, Adam Gadette, probably going to be in the H.L
29:55
But I like, they just made a ton of signings that I'm a huge fan of. Michael Simpson said was a good signing a little earlier
30:02
Yes. He's the goaltender. Yeah. Yeah. from the London Knights. Yes. I'm confused where they think he's going to play
30:15
because outside of the NHL, they have Sogarde, Mandelese, Mirlein, and maybe that's it
30:24
Maybe they only have three. So yeah, that is a good signing. I was just concerned about the room
30:28
but the four goalies to play between the ECHL and the HL is fine with me
30:33
Godette did score 71 points and 4. 34 goals in 67 games in the AHA this year
30:40
Fantastic. I love the signing. What are your thoughts on Gregor and Guddett, Paul
30:47
Just two quick points with Gregor, neither the San Jose Sharks nor the Toronto
30:53
Maple Leafs made a qualifying offer. Is that a point of concern
30:59
Like, I don't know the guy, but wow, two teams he played for
31:04
and has substantial seasons with them. I think 221 games, they couldn't see their way through
31:09
to offer him, making them qualify an offer. And then with Godette, yeah
31:14
that guy, if I've got this right, I mean, you mentioned his points totally in the HL
31:22
Did he lead, did he not lead the HL in points last year, last season
31:29
I'm not sure I can look it up, though. He's got a, he's racked up a lot
31:34
of points. And, you know, Belville, they needed to do something with Schmeekal gone, Larson gone
31:42
Lassie Thompson gone. They kind of had to do something with that roster to
31:49
He was third. Sorry, he was third in points behind Maverick Fork and Rocco Grimaldi
31:54
I don't know how Rocco Grimaldi is second in league scoring in the HL
31:59
But yeah, he likes it up in the minors. He's great. He does. But yeah, is there any last thoughts that you had on Goddette, Gregor
32:10
You know, Gaudet, don't want to read too much into it, but in Vancouver, he did play for Travis Green
32:16
Does that give him an edge? You know, could he fight his way onto the roster
32:19
Well, that's something bearing some scrutiny in the upcoming training camp. That's a good pull
32:30
He did play for him. So it will be really interesting to watch
32:34
if he gets some favoritism or not. And then as for Noah Greger, I'll just add a final comment here
32:40
I think that he has the opportunity to become a bottom six forward in Ottawa
32:44
I mean, he even spent time on the top line in Toronto last year when they were kind of
32:48
shuffling some lines. He's extremely speedy. He has a lot of skill
32:54
He just hasn't been able to start producing. And again, like, he's not a top line player
32:59
He's not a top six player. But he is versatile and he can fill in when need
33:04
like let's say Claude Jureau is out for the rest of the game
33:09
You're probably going to put Noah Greger up there just because he's one of the few, one of the few depth players that Ottawa has that can keep up with Tim Stutzel and Brady
33:15
Hitchock and just help develop offense, right? Like he's not going to be on the score sheet, but he can be impactful
33:23
You just don't want him up there consistently. Well, one thing I'm going to be paying attention to as a summer unfolds is I think the
33:31
senators have got about 1.9 million in remaining capital. space. So do you go out and sign another veteran or do you make it so that at training camp
33:42
there's an opportunity for maybe one or two guys to play their way onto the roster
33:48
Because there are six forwards there that have a shot. I'm thinking here of Kirkshank
33:54
a Stap, Chuck, Sokolov, you know, they've given him a qualifying offer
33:59
So I don't know. What do you do for your stales? Do you give some hope
34:04
to your prospects down in Delveau? I think so, but Sokolov's going to be gone
34:10
He's getting traded. And Bruce Garriock reported that as well, that he's not going to be in Ottawa come to training camp
34:18
But yeah, and even on defense, like do you give Matt and Palo a look
34:23
Do you give Stephen Halliday a look? Maxence Gunnet? You need to leave a couple bucks to bring players up
34:30
And right now, if Ottawa signs one more player, and they have to keep Travis Hammondick on the roster
34:35
they're not going to have room to call up players. So, yeah, the Ottawa senators should be done
34:41
unless they're making trades because they just don't have the money to keep going
34:46
Yeah, the senators don't need to put themselves in that position again. That was a nightmare last season
34:53
Yeah. All right, well, thanks everybody for checking us out this week
34:58
A lot of free agency talks, a lot of trade talks. Hopefully a lot more to come
35:02
see you next week. Thanks for watching
