Yeah, man. Come on. Give this man a round of applause. Yep. Yep. Gil Gatsby is here. We're celebrating
0:08
his latest album, Walking on Water, which is out right now. What an incredible project for so many
0:15
reasons. This isn't his first time on the show. He's no stranger. Heather B. You love Gil Gasty. Listen, man. for an artist to be able to
0:22
do what he's been able to do with the Sway in the morning show in terms of making promos and beds and connecting
0:28
with people all across the country. These promos are not a regional thing. They're spreading everywhere. Even so
0:34
much so that people have DM'd me and asked where can they get the promos. I'm like, bro, you got to hit up Gil Casby.
0:40
That's crazy. The people but first of all, welcome back to the show, man. You home, man.
0:46
Family, what's happening? Let me say something, man. This guy is more than just an artist who comes to
0:52
the show. This is like me and King T's younger brother. Yeah. You know, and uh we love this young man
0:57
and um he's always been very supportive of what we do and we try to support him as much as possible. The other thing I
1:04
appreciate about him is how he's evolved as a human being and uh you know people
1:10
you know when you meet artists and you know it's this dynamic of artists uh DJ
1:15
personality relationship that happens and that's pretty much the bond that builds you. But in the case of Gil
1:21
Gatsby in the case of us we go beyond the art. We we become family like we're sharing in this. Repatic is like a
1:28
brother. I smile every time I see these dudes. Like it's like a family reunion.
1:33
And when your family win, you win. When your family face um adversity, you face
1:39
adversity. And to see this man standing looking better than he's ever looked,
1:44
you know, in better shape than he's ever been. Hello. Cleaner than he's ever been,
1:49
you know, uh and to know the evolutions he's had. I want to say salute to him. This man has survived
1:56
two two strokes. Two strokes. Wow. two two strokes. Yeah. At a young age.
2:03
Yeah. Young age. We tapped into that and Right. And I want to retap into that because of how
2:08
good you look, man. Thank you, bro. Thank you. Because a lot of people in our generations and younger are starting to,
2:14
you know, deal with type these type of ailments. Yes. For whatever reason, whether it's diet, whether it's mental health, the whole
2:19
nine. Yes. Uh do you mind talking to us about that? No, that's important to me. Uh you know, God is good because I'm here, I'm alive,
2:26
I'm breathing. Like you said, I'm better than I've ever been. And I had no I had
2:31
no symptoms. It was just a regular day for me. I was on my way to work early on this uh Monday morning. Was talking to
2:38
one of my young boys from the church just kind of talking about some things and I felt like I got hit in the chest while we were talking. And so, you know
2:45
how men do, we don't say when things are going on. So, instead of saying, "I think something's going on," I said, "Let me call you back." So, I pull over
2:51
to the side of the road and I just kind of start stretching like, you know, something must be going on. Then I jump
2:57
back on the road and as soon as I jump back on the road, my face start twitching. And so, at that point, I felt like I was
3:04
getting nervous. Uh, but then I called my wife. So, I had my phone in my lap. I called my wife and when she picked up
3:11
the phone, all she heard me saying was, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus." And she said,
3:16
"What's going on? What's going on?" I said, "I don't know, but I think I'm having a stroke." Now, keep in mind while this is going on, I'm still
3:21
driving. I'm still coherent. I was able to pick up my phone and and find out what her number was in the midst of my brain
3:28
shutting down on me. Uh I was able to, you know, veer into the turning lane, make a U-turn, park the car safely, and
3:36
when I opened the door to tell somebody like, "Hey, I need help." He it was like 7 o'clock in the morning. This dude,
3:42
I'll never forget, he was in a white pickup, and he was getting a 24 case at 7 a.m. And uh I said, "I need help and
3:48
he kind of looked at me like almost to say like am I shot or something like that and uh as soon as I opened the door
3:54
I like collapsed out of the car. Oh my god. Because I at that point uh uh perman uh
4:00
paralyzed on the left side of my body. Mhm. And so when the paramedic got to me I
4:05
was like maybe 10 minutes from work and then I was 10 another 15 minutes from the hospital. And the hospital they took
4:11
me to they call it the stroke center. So, I had a stroke right down the street from the place where they can treat it
4:17
the best and the quickest. Nobody can tell me that God isn't real. Come on, man.
4:22
So, that day, that day, they kept me in the hospital overnight. They gave me some kind of like some pill that would
4:28
go in and explode any blood clot I had, blocking the brain or any part of my body. And the next day, when I thought I
4:35
was going to be discharged, in front of my wife, I had a second stroke. They were getting ready to discharge me. I
4:41
thought everything was good. And as they were taking the IV out and everything, I went limp again. Oh my god.
4:46
And my wife was like, "Hey, what's going on?" I said, "I think I'm having another stroke." And uh when you know they put
4:53
me in the hospital, they said, "We have to take you to LA. You going to have to have a surgery. It's a 95% chance you
4:59
won't make it through because we have to go in." Are you kidding me? 95%. Yeah. 95% chance because they have to go
5:06
in and put a stent in my brain to try and get the claw out. So, I may possibly bleed out uh once that happened. And uh
5:13
you know, we prayed and my wife was like, "Hey, let's just go." So, we went down to the hospital. Uh they were
5:18
trying to get me comfortable because they felt like I wasn't going to go home. They were telling me like music and everything is not going to be the
5:24
same. Uh you're not going to walk the same, talk the same, any of those things. Uh so, let's just make him comfortable,
5:30
you know, before he transitions. And seven, eight years later, I'm here with the family sway in the morning, man. God
5:36
is great, man. I've been preaching, talking, come on, man. With no issues at all,
5:42
man. And his amazing wife is right here. And she's wonderful because we got to
5:47
give respect to the wives. Absolutely. We hear about the person that's going through it, but not the partner that the
5:53
partner goes through it, too. Correct. And that and that's it's cute that you say that, bro, because a lot of times people uh they they elevate me
6:00
because I was going through it, but for 6 days, she stayed with me the entire time. She didn't go home. She
6:06
didn't leave my side. She was a bully with the nursing staff and things like that because they were in there speaking
6:11
death. Yeah. And she was willing to fight that off. No, don't say that. You got to go. We need a different nurse. We need
6:16
different staff. Because she didn't want anybody to speak negatively to me while I was going through that process. And
6:22
the cold part about it, Heather, is so many years, you know, I was like the person, not saying that she's not strong
6:27
because she is. I'm uplifting her. I'm praying for her. I'm walking with her and I'm pushing her. And when I couldn't
6:33
pick up my sword, she picked it up for me. We just yesterday was good news Thursday here at Sway in the morning and
6:39
it was about partnership and that exemplifies what a partner does. Like your union is a partnership. Yes. People
6:46
try to escape that and get away from it but that you guys did exactly what you're supposed to do. The word tells us
6:52
about finding that helpmate. Exactly. And so that's what we have when you go into that union and that partnership.
6:58
Did they ever find out what was the cause of the how did the blood clots in your brain? Did they ever
7:04
So they told me cuz I don't drink, they told me I was running off uh like a person who had been drinking for five,
7:10
six days and didn't get any rest. So they told me I was stressed out. Wow. Because I I was doing so much. I'm I'm
7:17
I'm grinding, trying to get on with the music. I'm trying to be the best husband I can be. I'm frontline at the church
7:23
doing what I can do. I'm a manager at my job. I'm a friend to so many. I do so much. And it's not to glorify me, but
7:30
I'm always on go. What can I do to help? And I wasn't getting any rest. I wasn't sitting down. I wasn't shutting down. I
7:35
wasn't resetting. And so my brain just finally just said, "It's time to sit down." In the natural,
7:40
in the spiritual side of things, I believe that God had to sit me down to reset me to make me know what's
7:47
important because we were dealing with so many things. Uh, you know, it's way in the morning. I could be honest with you. So, absolutely. So me and my wife,
7:54
we we don't have any children and we we have we're going through this infertility problem and then we finally get pregnant after 10 years and then we
8:01
lose our child. So it put me in a position to where I was like, God, I know that you're real, but I don't know how to what I'm
8:07
speaking about, what I'm believing, what I'm pushing. It's so tough for me to continue to elevate. So I'm dealing with
8:12
that and and not dealing with the problems I was having. And I would just overcompensate for things that I needed
8:18
to reset on. And then my body finally just said, "No, enough is enough." Yeah. And sat me down.
8:24
Um um so first of all, thank you for for your transparency. T Thank you as well
8:30
and and and love and support and prayers to you um about um your child not
8:36
transitioning but still hearing the spirit, still hearing the energy, right? And that's why we're here today.
8:43
You I recall talking to you after after you told me about um what had happened
8:48
with the strokes and Yeah. And I remember a time talking to you about coming up to the show and and
8:54
you said I had to you had to retrain yourself to write rhymes, right? Yeah.
9:00
You had to retrain yourself. What all kind of rehabilitation recovery work you
9:05
had to do? Yeah. So the rehabilitation so initially when I when I would walk I had like I
9:10
have a limp already. I walk like a monster now. You know it's that I had a basketball injury. Okay. Right. And so
9:15
now, you know, I thought that was just like some old school pimp thing going there. That was okay. I didn't know that was because of
9:21
that. You see that? You see that? You see it's always your own people, you know. Always. And the radio op.
9:29
You see that? Come on. I saw the limp. Tracy, I didn't know it be. Okay. Tracy, don't believe me, Tracy. Okay. Okay. My bad. My bad. My bad. Go ahead.
9:35
Yeah. So then uh the other thing that uh for a while and I I'll be honest with you, I probably was better than I
9:41
thought, but I developed anxiety Mhm. about certain things because before, hey
9:47
Gil, we want you to rap or come do this. I was so concerned with stuttering or being hesitant or forgetting what I
9:53
would do that it caused me to kind of like uh uh regress in the things that I did naturally. M.
9:59
And so what I would do through rehabilitation outside of like strengthening my hands and things like that, uh, is I would just put on my
10:06
wraps, like my most intricate wraps, and try to rap along with it to train my brain to begin to start doing what I
10:13
used to do. And so I used to have to do that all the time. Like I would just be when I got uh
10:18
back to work, I would just do that. Just put on beats and just rap non-stop.
10:23
Sometimes I would get it, sometimes I wouldn't. I did shows where sometimes I would forget in the middle of the verse
10:28
what I was supposed to say and have to just freestyle the rest of the verse. But it kind of helped me get back to
10:34
where I was, you know, where I am today. You know, it it's so funny. Um,
10:40
we have to stop normalizing stress. Mhm. You know, like that's not normal,
10:46
right? Like we it's a crime to tell somebody, I can't go. I can't make it. I need to
10:52
stay home. I need to sleep. I need to fall back a little bit. I need to reset. And I get it because I think hip-hop
10:59
played a big part in that, you know. Um I I'll sleep when I die, you know. Uh
11:04
and and there's no knock or nas, but sleep is the cousin of death. Don't start, you know. Don't don't stop. Don't
11:10
stop. Can't stop. And it has caused so much damage because with that staying up late, with that
11:16
constant grinding, you got to go. It comes to food that we're not supposed to be eating at 10:30, 11 o'clock at night
11:23
being in the studio. It comes to now I got to get to my job, my wife, my kids, my outside family. And it's not normal.
11:30
Yes. And we scared to take vacations. We scared to sit down. We scared to not have our phones with us. We talk about
11:37
that all the time, too. Yes. The the stress that's killing us more than anything, you know. So, thank you
11:43
for sharing that part because I know that's a part of your journey. But to hear, I thought maybe it was a physical
11:50
ailment or something you was dealing with. It was going to say like high blood pressure. But to find out this was stress related.
11:55
Yes. Is crazy to me, Gil. Yeah. Crazy. Yeah. It shouldn't be normalized, y'all. For real.
12:00
For real. How old were you when you had the first stroke? I was 35, homie. This is what I'm saying.
12:07
In his 30s, so I know a lot of people listen to, "Well, that don't relate to me. I'm I'm only I'm in my 30s or 20s." Nah, he was
12:16
35. 35. Not sleeping, running back and forth, doing all of the
12:21
things and not drinking though. And not a drinker. Not a drinker. So to you drinkers, you know, and and
12:27
smokers and all the other vices we have, that compounds it, right? Yes. Yes.
12:32
It doubled down. It made it worse. It made it worse. And uh the thing that I do now to Heather's
12:38
point is now if I can't make it, I don't go. I still sometimes I'm still I'm a
12:43
recovering people pleaser. I still find myself still kind of, you know, doing going over and beyond
12:49
knowing when I shouldn't do it. Still doing it. And at this point, I have to be more um conscious of the decisions I
12:55
make, where I go, where I commit, how I connect, because I got to be here for the long haul. And God didn't take me
13:01
through that just for me to go back and do the same things that I would was doing before. He put me in a position to
13:06
say, "I need you here. I gave you a voice for a reason. And I gave you a platform for a reason. Do not prostitute the gift I gave you,
13:14
but be who God called you to be. And you know, move in excellence. Gil Gatsby is here, man. And I know
13:20
people are listening and you going, "Huh, he's telling my story and I don't even know it."
13:25
I've been scared to say it. Yeah. I've been scared to say it or I've been scared to to see it.
13:30
Uh but he had a stroke in his 30s. Yes. Two strokes.
13:36
Two. Not substance related either. Yeah, he doesn't drink. And so if you
13:42
can relate to this, if it's shocking to you, um 888742
13:48
3345 Gil Gatsby. Gil, is it Gilligan Gatsby or Gil Gatsby?
13:54
No, it's Gil. You uh when I when I came through the first time and we went viral, uh everybody started looking for
13:59
Gil Gatsby. Yeah. So I had to drop the illigan off forever. Good. Yeah.
14:06
So I thank you for that. Yeah, no problem, man. You made it real easy, man. Damn, man. I didn't like that. No, just kidding.
14:13
You're a pastor. Yes. Yes. Um, we've been very instrumental, very very
14:20
involved, engaged with a lot of artists who are um utilizing their their raps
14:25
now to uplift and faith-based rap, if you will. Miles Minnik, um, Mike LV. Yes.
14:32
You know, we did our our God Always Cipher. And I was proud of those young men. Yeah.
14:38
Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. It was powerful. And and I felt like your your music has always been uplifting um to me.
14:45
I I'm I'm curious though when you like when I listen to Dead Homies, I'm going to read a line. Okay. Um because you also you gangster to me
14:52
as an MC. And I'm like there got to be a clash somewhere in the crossroads of being a
14:58
pastor and being this kind of MC as dope as I think you are. And the song we played, Dead Homies.
15:04
Yeah. Um there's a line um that you say
15:09
you say for the dead homies like Yeshua on the rise and death to all my idols
15:15
with conquering a while conquering AI. Yeah. Yeah. How you brought religion and AI in?
15:22
Yeah. Because the same line. The same line. Mike, isn't that radical?
15:29
Mike, my I'm sorry, Mike. I'm sorry. Yo, but talk about Yeah. No, so I think
15:35
one one is soulless and the other is to protect your soul. That's it. So the thing that I do with
15:40
the music and I've always been like this since the beginning that some people always kind of had a problem that I
15:46
would excuse me talk about God in the music. And so now it is kind of popularized and
15:52
not everybody really lives the life that they talk about in the music. You know, you can go on chat GPT and
15:58
say, "Give me a verse about Christ." and chess GBT will give you a 16. And a person can go in the booth and wrap it,
16:03
but they don't really live it. Yeah. And so I'm a person who comes from that cloth that you have to really be about
16:08
it and really stand on kingdom principles and the culture as well. And so when you hear my music, you know, I
16:14
call myself the bar bully. It's because I'm not nice about my approach when it comes to lifting up kingdom. The
16:21
conflict to that is some people in church don't really like that I do rap. They would rather I I I choose one side.
16:27
Either rap or preach. Don't do both. How? When a lot of pastors are behind
16:32
the pull pit delivering the messages the way they do it. It's the same. It's the same. Yeah.
16:37
But they don't like that. They'll rather I just put a suit on or even if I don't put a suit on, don't don't rap because
16:43
you lose a demographic when you do that. But I'm a person who has to hold true to who God called me to be. He gave me this
16:50
uh tool at an early age and I use it to glorify God anytime I get a chance.
16:55
Gil Gatsby uh 8887423345. We got John on the line from DC. John,
17:03
how you doing? Welcome to the show. Hey, what's up? What's up to the crew? What's up, Gil? Yo, man. Uh on the way home one day took
17:11
some type of uh castle. I thought it was going to uh um uh I was you know kind of
17:17
make me not short of breath or whatever. Had a full-blown heart attack. Doctor said, "Hey man, you're dying, but we
17:22
going to try to save you." But I managed to drive myself to the hospital. Felt like something was coming through my back out of my front. Always on the run.
17:30
But listen to your story. Um uh I think I'm I'm going to have to hit the reset
17:35
button on a serious note because I've kind of fell off the wagon. Started eating a little bit more reckless. You know, I mean, I eat healthy, but you
17:41
know, hey, a brother still need a steak and cheese every once in a while, right? But um No,
17:47
inspired by your story, man. Moderation. Moderation.
17:52
What? Well, go. I'm sorry. I mean, same thing. Moderation. You got to do it in moderation. And honestly, if you can
17:58
do without it, don't do it. In my opinion now, like I haven't had bacon uh
18:04
since having a stroke. Like I totally cut that out of my diet. So in addition to uh you know changing the way I try
18:11
and live my life, I also change the things that I eat and consume as well because that's important and that can
18:16
also weigh you down as well. Yeah. Yeah. The foods being on the and as a small business owner as small
18:23
business owner in in uh DC um always on the grind and everything like that,
18:28
getting them up early mornings, late at night, sleep at go to sleep at 1, up at 4.
18:34
Yeah. Yeah. It it's taking a toll. I'm I'm often told I'm often told that, hey, you
18:40
look tired. You look sleepy, you know. Uh but yeah, listen to your story, man. I'm I'mma take a different
18:45
approach. I'mma switch gears. So inspired by your story, that that's what's up. See, you saving
18:51
lives, John. Go. You should hear his album, Walking on Water.
18:56
Gil Gatsby. Walking on water. Go listen to that album. Walking on water
19:01
that way. If you ever in DC, let me tell you, you got to look up the best transportation company cuz I'mma give
19:07
you that ass whooping on the bowling lane. Okay.
19:14
Now, I want to give it to you, man. Hey, who who working today? Is it Tyler or Ka in New York?
19:21
Ka. Ka. Ka, get his number for me. I'mma text you, John. We going to get to this.
19:28
All right. I'm going I'mma give you that business, please. Okay. my my my daughter out there. So, I'll be out there soon. I'll let you
19:34
know. You a super citizen, though. That's way in the morning. All right. They get violent these citizens sometimes when it comes to that.
19:40
Um I want to play this song, Winner's Anthem, and then come back and talk more about this project, Walking on Water.
19:45
Okay. And what's next with Gil Gatsby? Yeah. Uh Winner's Anthem is featuring Chris Peters. Chris Peters. Yeah.
19:51
Speak on that. So, that was the first song I released after getting out of the hospital. Uhhuh. And so, I was still trying to figure out
19:56
the flow and get back in the pocket. And I felt like it was like a victory lap for me that God had healed me, delivered
20:02
me, and put me back in position to win. So that was the per uh perfect song uh for my return to music.
20:07
Here it is. Winner's anthem. Gil Gatsby, Sh45. If you feel blessed today, you
20:13
woke up breathing. Put your hands in the sky and clap. Clap.
20:19
Don't take it for granted, man. Come on, man. Gil Gatsby is here. 888742
20:25
3345. You have a lot of people who are calling that can relate to your story. You know, I can imagine and and we here
20:32
to talk about his music, but his story is in his music. Music. Yeah. And his music represents his story.
20:38
Yes. Right. Yes. Um it to parent to couples out there that
20:45
experience these type of adversities um from you know losing a child to
20:50
physical ailments like you have. Yes. um what has been your your your
20:56
saving factor in this? What what what have you been able to go to to keep you guys together to walk through this? And
21:02
what would you suggest to others? Okay, so uh for us, our faith in Christ, our belief uh and connecting with each
21:10
other because in the loss of a child, communication changed where we would talk about everything but that.
21:16
Yeah. You know, we were good but that was something that we didn't really talk about. Even to this day sometimes it gets leery because you know
21:22
the old adage when you run into people is when you gonna have kids or how many kids do you have or do you have this now
21:28
and so many times we have to protect each other from that to make sure she's good that
21:34
I'm good in the conversation. So prayer is something that we definitely uh get into. We get into the word of God uh
21:40
weekly to just uh encourage each other. And for other couples that may be going through that, my main thing for you is
21:45
to communicate, be honest, be transparent so that you can be on the same page, to work together so that that
21:51
doesn't become a wedge that separates you, but you grow uh closer together when going through those types of
21:56
things. And I could tell you guys communicate openly because uh your wife and I, we met years ago, right? and she really
22:03
came in and she was really, you know, floored in a good way by how I was singing earlier uh to our young. You saw
22:11
that she started singing. I heard you singing like you. I want to be like you.
22:17
Wow. And uh thank you T. I appreciate you for that. You good people pointing out talent. All
22:23
right, Tracy G. Go ahead. You want to go? I'm so happy to see you, to hear you, to feel you. Listen, on the subject
22:31
of protection, it brought up for me because your spirit has so much light. I can only imagine, you know, that
22:38
attracts love of course, but it can also attract projection from some folks,
22:43
resentment, maybe envy. when you are met by a dark spirit, especially as a
22:52
pastor, and I'm sure you might even be surprised to witness a friend have a
22:58
change in their spirit and it feel heavier. What do you do to protect your own
23:03
peace, but also to minister to that person without, you know, their energy
23:09
being contagious? Yeah. In the book of 1 Corinthians 13, it talks about love and how, you know,
23:15
you shouldn't uh approach a person to be rude. You shouldn't be a person who turns them off. So, I approach every
23:21
situation, every room I I I go in with that light. And if it is a person who I
23:26
I feel hasn't been spoke to or they kind of look like they don't want to talk, I'm the person that will go and talk to
23:32
them. And if I don't pray for them on the spot, I'll at least gather their name, pray for them privately, and just
23:37
keep pushing because I do have to protect who God has called me to be. But I am a person who I want everybody to
23:43
win at the end of the day, Trey. Uh, so for me, that's a great question because I do encounter some that say, "Why are
23:50
you so happy all the time? And why do you do the things that you do? I could have died seven years ago."
23:56
So, the fact that I'm here, why would I walk around this world with my head down? Why would I walk in anger and
24:01
frustration and hold bitterness and strife in my heart when the Lord saved me to live this life the way he called
24:07
me to live it? So, that's how I approach them situations. Amen. Gil Gatsby is his name. You can follow
24:13
him at G I L G A Tsb Y. Citizens like a
24:18
lot of people on the phone lines. Don Art Bale Arthur Quick follow him please
24:23
so you could continue the conversation at G I L G A T SB Y.
24:29
Yeah, Gil, what an amazing story. Uh thank you so much for sharing and being vulnerable. uh so many people go through
24:36
extreme adversity and stress um and don't have an outlet and it it has an
24:41
impact on the body. With that being said, I'm just curious within your ministry and in the church,
24:47
how do you approach outside resources um in addition to prayer? Right? Is there
24:52
conversations about mental health, about therapy and seeing a therapist?
24:57
I haven't t tapped into that just yet. I haven't tapped into it. I know that it is important uh but for me I just
25:04
haven't got that way. So the first thing that I've just done was just try to uh
25:09
make sure that I'm eating right. That's where I started uh juicing and things like that outside of prayer going to the
25:14
gym. Uh and like I said not picking up as many things, being able to walk away, being able to sit down, being able to
25:21
isolate for a moment to reset is how I've been dealing with things thus far. uh in the future possibly I will be able
25:27
to go sit down and talk to someone to unpack a lot of generational cycles and things like that that may be attached to
25:33
the reason that I am the way that I am. Uh but right now I'm really just uh in a
25:38
space of pour out, go home, reset, and then do it again. So that's why I am
25:44
right now. Gil Gatsby is here. Give him a big round of applause.
25:52
Gil, you're a pastor. Yeah. And I believe one of the ten
25:58
commandments, okay, is thou shalt not kill. Right.
26:03
Right. Right. When I listen to this song moment,
26:12
you say, "Lord knows, don't let me lose my temper. I live God, but in this
26:18
booth, I'm a killer." Yeah. Yeah. So, it's a different translation. Oh, okay. Okay. I didn't know if you
26:23
was, you know, being blasphemous right there. That's not blasph Okay. I just wanted to check if that's I should have said I leave him
26:30
one alive, but you know, I put the song. Okay. Okay. I just that part of the song confused me,
26:36
right? But it and it made me wonder. Yeah. Becoming a pastor, did it how did that
26:42
affect that mamba mentality you have as a MC? It only uh to me intensified it
26:48
because when I made the decision that I was going to rap for for God, I had people that would laugh at me.
26:53
So, take you down memory lane really quick. When I first started rapping, I used to do battles and everything in high school. And then one day I said,
27:00
"You know what? I'mma rap for the Lord." So, I went to this spot called the Stone Bleachers. And I started rapping and
27:06
Eric said, "Did he say God?" And the whole cipher stopped and they started singing uh Kirk Franklin Stump. Uh-huh.
27:12
Like the whole sc like imagine B boys and everybody all my people say stomp and I remember just walking off from the
27:18
from the bleacher saying nobody will ever be able to do that again whenever I rap. So it it developed
27:24
this like aggression to how I create music from that point on. Really? Yeah. It never never turned it off.
27:30
Can you demonstrate that right now? I mean why not? I know you know where you are, right?
27:35
Huh? Yeah. It's a different valley than the one they mentioned in the Bible. Okay.
27:41
Barcy, this one is slightly different. You know, this isn't one that you're a
27:48
stranger to. In fact, you're most familiar with it. This is a valley that you help build and construct.
27:55
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Valley of the Hyenas. Gilg,
28:02
that man stood up. Let's lift that mic up, too, man. Okay, give me right. Hey, that's go up.
28:09
We good. That good? Yeah, that's good. Yeah, we good right there. Okay. Okay, let's go. Hey,
28:15
on the beat. Look, they say the bully fell off. I beg your pardon. That's a slippy comment like
28:21
lobbies and diddy parties. I ain't just get here sway. I been golly. Still knocking God. That's not me. That's a
28:27
thin problem, man. I'm back outside with the gang. It's too crucial. When I say I polarized, not talking about bad pupils.
28:34
Now, who really wanted? It's time to spin the block like a coder sack. Look me paying attention to hate that's not
28:41
salary. Blasphe the Lord prepare for your casualty. Still saying God not real. That's so mad to me. Make it make
28:48
sense like body work factories. Hey look they go low I go higher and land on the
28:53
top of a fence like bar wire. Hey look all that that hate it don't bother them. Heather be I'm here for one reason. Can
28:59
I slaughter them? Pat White. I said my middle name is legendary. I got a flow throwing rappers in the cemetery. The
29:06
streets say I'm half biggy, half seminary. And I'm a soldier in the army. God's military. I heard all the whispers
29:13
and your commentary. The people still doubt the truth like it's ordinary. Say a prayer cuz the times, man, they
29:19
getting scary. I can't rock your life, not in your vocabulary. I took a couple L's, but it's temporary. Now they
29:25
sleeping on Gil like it's narcolepsy. It's time to take flight. Check the itinerary. That tough guy talk. You know
29:31
your sweetest Benny Jerry. I had to reset back to the avenue. Fresh on sbatical. Labor me a radical. Lost a few
29:39
folks on the way. I find it laughable. Giving God glory through every battle I travel through. Now when I speak peace,
29:45
here come the hassle. Time to burn down idols and crush statues. You build your riches in the dirt. I pull up in the
29:51
bucket and throw some living water on your sand castle. In the lead now it ain't even close. My name good. I can go
29:58
through any post. The ops see me and it's like they seen a ghost. I keep my side swell all up on their throat. I'm
30:05
back on my BS boy caught in the sin like where God's glory still flow through my wind pipe. I never seen him fail
30:12
midnight. So why risk it? Turn the de over this life. First off, it's the kingdom. You see the evidence. I'm not
30:19
wasting my time building the relevant. Hey yo, it's time for the take over. It's evident your music not hitting no
30:25
more. Your flow celibate. They say I got the heart to do it with smarts like a har student. Arrived late but was far
30:32
from truing choice while they all look foolish. Leave them salty like barra noodles. May not die for that Christ
30:38
life behind mice. I spit cold bars like a blue in a Klondike. Live my whole life
30:44
for God. No price get like playing catch with a lightning rod. Dog this flow is
30:49
priceless. Regular MC. That's why I need a Jordan. I'm leaving all lifeless. Yeah. Slay in the morning. Let's get
30:55
busy. Everybody know it's the man name. Go against the kingdom of God. I
31:01
wouldn't risk on the mic. I don't know how to act like two flicks. Christmas play pops my taste res. I'm praying for
31:07
the soldiers. I'm hoping to see your shift that Bible stumble with the rhyme of a legend. You turn boy in a matter of
31:14
seconds. From boys to men, I'm in sync with him. My aggression can lead the world to one direction. Look at God
31:21
before me. No revenue for me. Christ winning forever. I stay scoring. These
31:26
rappers boring. These rappers boring one flow will rip out your unit like Steve Harvey doing forever. You all know in
31:33
the move my flow putting work deserve a W2. If Christ be the king, man, you already know. Yas be the grace way in
31:40
the morning to show go. Let's go.
31:46
Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. We got a lion up in here.
31:54
Wow, man. Wow, man. Man, Gil Gatsby.
32:00
Stand and know Gatsby. Come on, man. Yo, that was amazing, bro. Album title, self-explanatory. Yo,
32:08
walk on water. DJ Red Matic, what you think of that?
32:13
Very dope. Very dope. Respect. Respect. Respect. Yeah. Yeah. Tracy G, I saw you over
32:18
there dancing while exceptional, man. There's like Okay. There's like grade school level of
32:25
rapping. Then you can have like college and then this is where you go and get your PhD in bars. Just metaphor.
32:34
Loved it. So many things. Just treats all throughout. Thank you so much, Gil. Bless.
32:39
Yo, and here's the thing. Most most people send in their beats that the old school way is to you an MC. No matter
32:46
what they throw under you, two turntables and a mic, you got to go. You got to go. And so Redmatic, he had
32:53
no idea what Red Matic was going to throw on and he was able to maintain that flow. That's real true MC Gil
33:01
Gatsby. We got a hyena up in here.
33:07
Oh, man. Yeah. How you feel? I feel good. I wanted to keep going, but I said it's Friday. Friday.
33:15
You did your thing. You did your thing. Yo, man. I love it. I can't wait for you all to see this. You can play it back
33:21
today. SiriusXM on the SXM app. I want to thank you and your amazing wife
33:26
for coming in today. Absolutely. You know, T, you want to you want to come on. Just say, you know.
33:32
Yeah. Yeah. Come on. No, this is it. Oh, come on. You was singing to me earlier. Man,
33:37
she you not going to let this cute song go away. Yeah. What? What? She was
33:43
She was singing to me. She was singing what you sang. Well, she said she gave me an example how I should sing it next
33:49
time. You want to do that for us? Like if I could be like Mike. His name
33:55
was I.
34:05
You got to speed it up. Okay. Okay. But did you see how we just harmonized right there or did you hear
34:10
that? Do it again. Put headphones on. That's my kind of girl. She don't need them. She can hear you. No, she can't. That's why she said no.
34:18
Did you hear that, Red Matic? How that harmony came out? Right. You heard that, right? Crazy mic calling it.
34:23
Okay, go ahead. Watch. You didn't hear me. Go ahead. Thank you, Mike. Like you. If I could be like you, I be I
34:31
like you. If I could be like, I mean, that's it.
34:37
Thank you, man. Come on, JK. You know it sound good. Come on. Come on. No. Nope.
34:43
No. I can't lie to you. You can't do it. Okay. Okay. Thank you. All right. Be honest or be quiet. Okay. You be honest or be quiet. Okay.
34:51
Okay. All right. That's unfortunate with the Jesus Christ. No.
34:58
With the hat on, too. Are you be quiet? Yo. Right. Right. But I want to say sis,
35:05
God bless you. Yes. God bless you. God bless you. Okay. You're quite a force, you know, from the
35:11
moment you walked in that door today. And I understand why he looks so good,
35:16
right? You both look good. Yep. Some woman came in the lobby and was like, "Damn, y'all look good." You know,
35:23
and so I want to say, "Keep going. Keep going. Your story, your story that
35:28
you have to share is medicine for those who are listening." Amen. And while you while you while you while
35:34
you helping yourselves, you're helping others as well. So, thank you for being transparent today.
35:39
Absolutely. So, one part of the story that um he may have forgotten, but they actually told
35:46
me to prepare for him to die. Wow. They had him on a low sodium diet when
35:51
they were in the hospital and um they took him off and I would I asked I said,
35:56
"Why are we not on a a low sodium diet anymore?" He said, "Oh, we just need to get him comfortable because it's going
36:02
to be any day now." And I refused. I already know that God
36:07
has purpose for him. He ain't going nowhere. So if you can't get with it, you got to get out. So they counted him out, but God said,
36:14
"No, I got other plans for him. This is just a testimony that's going to help people that he has to go through that I
36:19
chose him for." So when people count you out, when they tell you what is what, even doctors, I appreciate them. I
36:25
respect them. But you can't take them their word as a final say. You got to trust in God and know what God said as a
36:32
final say. And you got to push that. Absolutely. Amen. And you'd be surprised because my mother uh my family's dealt
36:38
with a lot of adversity and my mother worked in the medical field. So, as she deals with her adversities, that's one
36:45
of the things she points out. Like I like you say, I respect the doctors, the professionals, but a lot of times it be
36:51
agendas in those hospitals, right? It be Yeah. agendas in those hospitals. So, you have
36:57
to fight for your loved ones in those hospitals. We feel intimidated sometimes
37:02
that you can't speak up. Maybe because your lack of knowledge on medicine or the condition, you got to speak up. And
37:08
it's okay if somebody's in the room that doesn't have the right energy to say, "Excuse me, this isn't aligned with where we are
37:14
right now. I need you out." So, you were conscious the whole time you was speaking and they still were you
37:20
were talking and breathing and they were saying, "It's make arrangements." His stress level was so high that his
37:27
blood pressure was so high. High. I got you. So, his blood pressure causing the clots, but his stress level, I mean,
37:34
this man is I could sit and talk about him for days at a time. This is an amazing man, but
37:40
he he was doing too much. Too much. Yeah. And you know, I'm not that wife that got a mouth. I respect my husband. So, I
37:46
tried to work with him, but he's a man and priest and pastor of my household. But God had to say, "We going to sit you
37:52
down." Yep. Because you're doing too much. So that stress and like you said eating different stuff that he shouldn't have
37:57
been eating that all added to it and it caused his blood pressure to rise
38:03
because of all that stress and the stress and how he ate. All that accumulated to it and it got him to that
38:09
point to where God had to say, "Yeah, let me sit you down real quick and while I'm at it, I'mma bless other people by you going through what you go through."
38:16
Lesson learned, y'all. Bacon is not your friend at all. I don't even know that introduce your wife.
38:22
It's my wife Ten Noel. She did 19 years in the game.
38:29
Nice singer, too. She on any tracks? You on any tracks? Show a few tracks. Got her own project coming.
38:34
Oh, okay. Come back up. Noel. Yeah. Yeah. You could get in that seat and then then we'll go over who seems good
38:40
or not. Won't be you. Sway. Come back up though. I'd love to hear your pride. You got a beautiful voice.
38:46
Our peep game. Gil Gatsby. Thank you, man. We're going to end with moments. A moment. Uh we're
38:51
going to end with the song moment. U but please walking on water. It's available everywhere. iTunes,
38:57
Spotify, wherever you stream music, it's available. Go get it. It's gonna be a moment. It's way things about to change
39:03
after this one. Absolutely. I know it is. I already It's already changed. It's already changed. It's already happened. Facts. Okay.
