God Did It: Mervin Mayo's Soul-Stirring Journey 🙏 | SWAY’S UNIVERSE

0:00
Sway in the Morning Heather be Tracy G
0:02
man come on man get out a big round of
0:03
applause we are going to make history
0:06
today yeah we are going to make history
0:08
today W Heather you know it was always
0:11
the dream to bring it all together facts
0:14
the part about hip-hop they don't tell
0:17
you what is rooted in it's rooted in
0:20
spirituality hip-hop was created because
0:23
this and franchise people needed a
0:25
platform to speak out to talk about
0:27
their joy to talk about their pain to
0:29
talk about about their family to talk
0:31
about their Journey we have been that as
0:34
a people since day one that's how we
0:36
passed on the information that's Grio
0:39
and so hip-hop has been that but prior
0:41
to that there other genres Soul jazz
0:44
blues
0:46
gospel that kept us informed as a
0:49
community when the music business and
0:51
industry get got a hold of our music and
0:53
our culture they divided it into columns
0:56
so you could go out to a store and go
0:58
into a particular column and buy
1:00
whatever that is and then they
1:02
ostracized those columns and told us
1:03
that they can't exist together so now
1:06
you got formatted radio you got uh pop
1:09
radio you got Urban radio you got
1:11
alternative rock you got all these
1:12
different kinds of radio but that's not
1:14
how you learn music you listen to
1:16
everything in your living room so my
1:19
ultimate goal Heather B and I and my
1:21
partner King Tech shout out to King Tech
1:24
was
1:24
to Galvanize all of this
1:28
energy and make it into one and part of
1:31
that practice we've been doing since Co
1:34
no one ever expected to hear gospel on
1:36
Shade 45 no one no one but you did and
1:40
you didn't even realize it DMX was
1:43
giving you gospel facts you didn't even
1:45
realize it Tupac was giving you gospel
1:47
you didn't even realize it sigh the
1:50
prince Gave You gospel you didn't even
1:52
realize it and so today man we bringing
1:54
it full Full Throttle hether be we
1:56
putting it in the Forefront right now 10
1:58
toes down 10 toes down watch how we make
2:01
it work have the be who do we have in
2:03
the building man listen you talk about
2:05
making it work making my way to work
2:07
every single morning it's about bringing
2:09
the energy here right to swing in the
2:10
morning so I get centered by putting on
2:13
music that move my soul I listen to um
2:16
SiriusXM obviously we got it in the car
2:18
and um I listen to a praise channel
2:20
channel 64 right here at
2:22
SiriusXM and driving that morning you
2:25
know I normally have my own playlist but
2:27
I turned on this channel and I heard
2:30
this song and I was like why is this
2:33
song speaking to my soul like this and
2:36
who is this like who's this person so
2:38
I'm driving and hitting buttons and I
2:40
see the name mvin Mayo pop up I grabbed
2:42
my phone I took a picture of it and I
2:45
just kept humming the song you know just
2:48
all day just humming it humming it we
2:50
get to Good News Thursday and I say to
2:52
Tor y producer we have to play this song
2:55
and torch was like where you get it from
2:57
it sounds good it sounds bright it
2:59
sounds sounds big this is crazy I said
3:01
they play it here at SiriusXM this is my
3:04
first time hearing it the reaction not
3:07
only from all of us here in the studio
3:09
but then our citizens this way in the
3:11
morning from sway's Universe started to
3:13
call up and respond my DMs was flooded
3:16
who is this person that's singing this
3:18
song I said his name is mvin Mayo I DMD
3:22
you unbeknownst to me the good Minister
3:24
mvin Mayo doesn't check his DMS oh my
3:28
God he might miss message from God
3:31
man you're right you're right but I
3:34
wanted to let you know that your music
3:37
was being played on Sway in the Morning
3:38
in particular Shade 45 and then um your
3:42
your team a member from your team Baron
3:44
reached back and was like thank you
3:45
we're getting these messages and so as
3:47
sway mentioned it's just a full circle
3:49
moment for us I I believe that it's
3:51
never accident when you hear something
3:53
on the radio you are supposed to hear
3:55
what you hear on the radio when you hear
3:57
it at that day and I was meant to hear
3:59
your song so welcome you to the show in
4:02
the Su universe and to all the citizens
4:04
mvin Mayo is here y he is here God did
4:08
it God did it God did it God did it come
4:13
on Marin mayo man welcome to the show
4:17
it's good to be here thank you all for
4:18
inviting me absolutely man I want to
4:20
know your story because you've been at
4:22
this for a minute I know the album don't
4:24
ever let me fall came out but that was
4:26
like 2009 yeah that was years year wow
4:30
like folks don't even know how long
4:32
you've been at this I've been doing it a
4:34
long time um I started singing um when I
4:37
was about 12 or 13 years old and um I
4:39
started playing the piano at the same
4:41
time because I in my neighborhood there
4:42
was nobody that could play the piano
4:43
where was that neighborhood Craig I grew
4:45
up in projects I grew up in Katon Court
4:46
in Richmond Virginia you sound like
4:48
Katon Court must be so popular you
4:49
didn't even say the city or the state oh
4:51
oh yeah Court yeah yeah I grew up in Kon
4:54
court and um and um we used to have like
4:57
talent shows and stuff and I I was I
4:58
started off singing R&B actually and um
5:01
I learned to play the piano because I
5:03
couldn't find anybody in my neighborhood
5:04
or anybody around me period that could
5:06
play for me so I was like you know what
5:07
I learn to play and play for myself and
5:09
that's how I started I've been singing
5:11
ever since ever since ever since growing
5:12
up in the projects though I remember
5:14
playing an instrument when I was younger
5:16
and it made me feel like I was missing
5:17
out on a lot of fun and people kind of
5:19
made fun of me you know but you you
5:21
growing up in the projects how did
5:22
people receive that that you would
5:23
wanted to be a musician wanted to be an
5:25
artist well you know um people saw in me
5:27
what I didn't see in myself okay um
5:29
there's there's times I wanted to hang
5:31
out with you know when I say I grew up
5:32
in projects I mean from the time I came
5:34
home from the hospital until I graduated
5:36
high school I grew up in the projects
5:38
and people saw something in me and so
5:40
when I wanted to get involved with stuff
5:41
that I shouldn't get involved with they
5:42
was like no not you you know and so I
5:44
had a I had a body of people governing
5:46
me that I didn't even realize was taking
5:49
care of me um and so they pushed music
5:51
on me they was like no you're a singer
5:52
dude you don't need to be out here with
5:53
me you don't need to be hanging around
5:54
and that's what kept me out of trouble
5:56
you know at the time I just thought they
5:58
didn't want to hang around me you know
5:59
uhhuh uh-huh but that's not it you know
6:01
they were actually keeping me out of
6:03
trouble and um and pushing me to do
6:05
music um um and that's it what made you
6:08
choose gospel how did you end out I
6:10
didn't I didn't choose gospel gospel
6:12
chose me there you go mvin Mayo is here
6:14
get him man yeah you know okay all right
6:17
come on come on yeah I um it's always
6:19
been in my heart and um I started sing I
6:21
actually used to rap long time ago and
6:24
um and we were looking for somebody to
6:25
sing a hook and um we couldn't find
6:27
anybody to sing a hook and so I started
6:29
singing and it was I forgot the hook a
6:30
long time ago and my manager at the time
6:32
was like from now on you're no longer a
6:33
rapper cuz I was really no good anyway
6:35
and uh and I started singing um ever
6:38
since then I I started singing I forgot
6:39
what was the original question how did
6:41
you get what made you go yeah and so I
6:44
um I used to sing appreciate that
6:46
Honesty yeah yeah yeah I used to sing um
6:48
R&B uh I used to sing with a group
6:50
called charm and I always felt like my
6:52
style has always been gospel and so even
6:54
though I'm singing R&B it was like
6:57
Marvin W is a Marvin sap singing R&B
6:59
song and it just didn't intertwine you
7:01
know it's like I mean he's singing the
7:03
R&B but I I think I'm getting the Holy
7:05
Ghost you know it's like it's weird yeah
7:08
and um and um I stopped singing um R&B
7:12
and I started I'm singing with we we
7:13
used to sing with a group called charm
7:14
we changed the name to changed and we
7:16
began singing gospel and I've been on
7:18
the road ever since then I've been
7:20
offered to do R&B again but that's
7:22
that's I'm out I'm done with that that's
7:23
what that's not what my heart is my
7:25
heart is just praising God you know 100%
7:28
you know 100% mvin Mayo is here man it's
7:32
man a round of applause yeah um you're
7:34
also an officer I'm also a police
7:36
officer so how did that where does that
7:39
tie in well well it it sounds cliche
7:43
because you know you say people say when
7:45
I I always wanted to give back but
7:46
really I I did um there was an officer
7:48
named Curtis Simmons he was in the
7:50
Police Athletic League program and he
7:52
kept me out of trouble they would take
7:54
us to uh Kings the milon Water Country
7:55
Bush Gardens uh and there's times that
7:57
they would take us somewhere and when we
7:59
came back it was like people had been
8:01
shot and everything so that kept us all
8:02
of trouble and um he kept his hands on
8:05
me the entire time he actually could
8:06
sing too and so we would be singing in
8:08
the car on our way to you know these
8:10
theme par with other other kids and um I
8:12
always said if I could become a police
8:15
officer I would want to work in the
8:16
schools with the youth to give back the
8:19
same way he did but I never in a million
8:20
years thought that I would actually put
8:22
a application in to be a police officer
8:25
um and I did and and for some reason
8:27
they hired me I was like really you
8:29
hired me you know and um I did my two
8:31
years on the street and immediately I
8:33
went straight into um the schools and
8:35
I've been working with atrisk youth ever
8:36
since at RIS almost 18 years now I've
8:39
been in the school you so important yeah
8:41
I love it how many lives you could see
8:43
that that that that because of your
8:45
presence have been or what kind of
8:46
responses I know you're a humble man so
8:48
you're not going to have well you know
8:50
it's it's it's weird like CU there's
8:51
times I I actually really have to like
8:54
wrestle with with kids you know that I
8:56
have to put kids in handcuffs but I I
8:58
don't arrest them I tried not to arrest
9:00
him um in this one particular case I had
9:02
to wrestle with this kid he was putting
9:03
something tough on me too yeah yeah I
9:05
had to get some help from one of the
9:06
security officers yeah and uh and I
9:08
didn't arrest him or anything um I
9:11
actually took him to McDonald's gave him
9:12
something to eat and took him home and
9:13
so don't come back to school till he get
9:15
his together and I saw him about seven
9:18
or eight years later I was at a taco
9:19
stand and he was like off a May off a
9:21
Mayo I didn't know who he was he made a
9:23
urn came back and was like the day that
9:25
you wrestled with me and you didn't take
9:26
me to jail changed my life that's said
9:29
me and that was the first time it was
9:31
the first time that that that I had ever
9:34
saw my impact you know and sometimes you
9:36
know me out there wrestling and getting
9:38
my tail whop I think is in vain but um
9:41
for him to say that that one particular
9:43
incident changed his life is worth it
9:45
all for me worth it all absolutely
9:47
murvin Mayo is here man you know I've
9:49
had some
9:51
friends had an um friend named T-Bone
9:54
T-Bone's also a Christian rapper he been
9:56
rapping since the 90s but T-Bone as a
9:59
former gang banger right and um he him
10:03
and I used to debate back and forth um
10:05
about scripture in in the90s right and
10:08
he had an incident as a gang when he was
10:10
in the in gang where he was running for
10:12
his life other opposing gangs was trying
10:14
to get to him and he ran literally out
10:17
of his shoes that's how hard he ran wow
10:19
and cut a corner and jumped in behind
10:21
bushes and the people ran by him and
10:25
while he was behind the bush he said God
10:27
if you get me out of this m
10:29
I'mma change my life forever and he
10:31
changed his life forever right prior to
10:34
that though I said well what did you
10:35
believe in prior to that he said my
10:37
faith had been challenged I didn't
10:39
realize it and that's why I was putting
10:41
my energy into that gang I was Finding
10:44
refuge in that Gang has your faith in
10:46
your journey ever been challenged yes
10:50
Lord um you know my facei my faith was
10:53
definitely challenged uh for the first
10:55
time like on a on a on a major scale
10:59
doing the riots doing the GE FL riots
11:02
because I'm I'm I'm standing there you
11:04
know in uniform and I'm saying to the
11:06
people well they know me you know
11:07
they're not they know I'm not I'm not
11:09
that person they know I'm one of the the
11:11
good guys but me wearing
11:15
blue it kind of intertwined me with
11:17
everybody else and so the same people
11:20
that I I love on I I felt personally
11:23
that I was they did turn their backs on
11:25
me I was um cursed out I was called
11:27
every name that I could think of urine
11:29
thrown on me uh feces thrown on me and
11:32
and it broke me it broke me like I I
11:34
went into a state of depression that's
11:35
where the song bow down came from oh my
11:38
God I went into like I was I was
11:40
thinking about it
11:44
now it broke me you know and
11:47
um and I began to minister to myself um
11:51
and in my words I was like it's me Lord
11:52
and I'm standing in in need I know I
11:54
don't call you like I used to but I I
11:56
need you to wrap your arms around me you
11:58
know and that's where that song came
12:00
from it it came from a deep place you
12:02
know some people sit down and they get a
12:04
beat and they say I'mma write a song my
12:07
songs come my song is coming from a
12:09
place my song's comeing from God putting
12:10
it in me to give to his people and um I
12:13
was challenged and um I didn't know what
12:16
to do I didn't know if I still wanted to
12:17
be a police officer um I thought about
12:20
quitting but it wasn't about that moment
12:22
it's about the kids it's about the youth
12:25
the whole reason I became a police
12:26
officer in my interview I told him I
12:28
wanted to work with the youth the reason
12:30
I became a police officer is for the
12:32
Youth that I work with and so all of
12:34
that pain all of that that uh struggle
12:37
that I went through at that time it was
12:38
worth it it actually made me a stronger
12:40
person it made my faith stronger um and
12:44
it made me work harder you know and um
12:47
and that's about it uh it was a it was a
12:50
it was a bad time in my life it was bad
12:52
for my family you know it was a bad time
12:55
wow man thank you for sharing that man I
12:57
get choked up every time I think okay
12:59
that's what this is what this place is
13:01
and I get I cry all the time man he
13:03
really does stop
13:07
Heather I used to be tough but I love we
13:10
you know we especially with men
13:12
especially with black men this is a
13:14
place where you could be your your
13:15
authentic self and we we hold back our
13:18
tears because we're taught that right
13:20
you know we're conditioned that way
13:22
right but not knowing that the body is
13:24
trying to release right to help itself
13:26
get that pressure out get that pressure
13:28
out right so man we could cry and hug
13:31
together man and then after the
13:33
interview you can let me wear your
13:34
jacket yeah all
13:37
right you want to jump in there at the
13:39
be I do because I'm still stuck on the
13:42
fact and and welcome to the show and
13:43
thank you
13:45
again that you made this split decision
13:48
not to arrest that young man M and and
13:51
for you to see him years later seven
13:54
years later eight years later and he say
13:55
it changed his life so many police
13:58
officers can make that same decision you
14:02
know we we heard the story about the
14:05
young man who shot up a church and was
14:08
taken to Burger King you know and then
14:10
taken off to jail and we were like how
14:13
how does that happen how the police
14:14
officers do that and and what what was
14:19
it about your spirit at that time where
14:22
you said I'm not going to arrest him
14:24
even though he physically assaulted you
14:27
as a man and then as a police officer
14:30
what was it in you that said don't bring
14:32
him to jail um because I think when I
14:36
look back over my life there's times
14:39
that I should have been arrested like I
14:40
said I grew up in a project I was very
14:41
mischievous mischievous growing up and
14:43
there's times that I should have been
14:45
arrested I should I I've actually I've
14:48
I've been in situations where I I could
14:49
have been killed you know and um and at
14:53
the time I'm thinking this is me you
14:55
know this is me acting out and so I'm
14:58
asking hey hey what's going on with you
14:59
man why would you fight me like that and
15:01
the fact he was like man I'm just going
15:02
through a lot that's it that's the end
15:04
of it once you tell me you're going
15:06
through a lot it has nothing to do with
15:07
me personally you're just going through
15:09
a lot that's the end of it there's no
15:11
reason for you to be arrested maybe
15:12
you're hungry let's go eat let's go talk
15:14
let's figure out what's going on um the
15:16
only times that I have to arrest is if a
15:19
parent says this child assaulted my son
15:22
and I want to press charges then I have
15:24
my hands are tied but even still most of
15:27
the time I still take to go get
15:29
something to eat before I take them down
15:30
the juvenile you know that's just I'm
15:32
just the type of person I am you know um
15:34
because you know you can be you can you
15:36
can make a best friend if you feed him
15:38
you know you know really yeah got a lot
15:41
he been preaching this message for 13
15:43
years thank you brother I've been trying
15:45
to tell Heather to bring more food to
15:47
work it just doesn't happen now with you
15:49
saying it yeah but I cook a lot I cook
15:52
that's like my therapy so I cook a lot
15:55
and he's just like where's the food yeah
15:57
I got a big box of cup of noodles in my
16:00
office the kids are come to my office M
16:02
can I get a cup of noodles I give you
16:04
this cup of like I said I'm I'm working
16:06
with at risk youth these kids have been
16:08
kicked out of all regular schools and
16:11
they're all in my school so I'm like I'm
16:13
going to give you these cup of noodles I
16:14
don't want no mess out of you for the
16:15
next two weeks they like two
16:17
weeks can you can you give me a week I
16:20
can give you a week for a whole week we
16:22
good even if they want to get out of
16:23
pocket they like you write off some mail
16:25
I'm going to calm down so a cup of $1
16:27
noodles and a relationship can solve a
16:30
lot damn we just put this up in DC
16:35
politics yeah it's true lowkey angel
16:38
lowy angel wow wow Marvin yes have you
16:42
ever felt and thank you for all that
16:44
you're sharing with us right now I can
16:46
feel a transformation within me just
16:48
from listening to you um when you spoke
16:51
about feeling like you were chosen right
16:53
folks were looking out for you and
16:55
you're coming from the projects and I
16:58
made me wonder did you ever deal with
17:00
survivors remorse like wondering why was
17:03
I chosen versus someone else who got
17:06
arrested or someone else whose life was
17:09
taken I think it's it is it's the other
17:11
way around I never actually dealt with
17:13
survivors remorse um I recognized that
17:17
it could have been me though and so I'm
17:19
grateful that it wasn't me I grew up um
17:22
in N I grew up in in Katon in the 90s
17:24
during crack time you know 80 ' 85 86
17:27
during that time and I can honestly say
17:29
out of maybe about 30 of my friends
17:33
there's probably only four or five they
17:35
still alive wow that grew up with me and
17:37
so it's it's not survivors remorse it's
17:41
thanking God for favor you know thanking
17:42
God for Mercy thanking God for Grace
17:44
because it could have been me um there's
17:46
been times I I I always tell my wife
17:48
that I got shot but I actually shot
17:50
myself I have playing with a bullet hit
17:52
it with a hammer and shot myself in the
17:54
leg you know just stupid mischievous
17:56
stuff like that that we used to do and
17:59
um I'm sorry I
18:00
me let me tell you funny about that my
18:03
mom my mom my mom didn't play right and
18:07
let me tell you about this real funny my
18:08
mom didn't play and so when I got shot
18:10
in the leg I had to make a decision tell
18:12
my mom and and get this whipping or go
18:15
to the hospital I said you know what I
18:17
rather just just go on in the house Le
18:19
in the covers and just die cuz I don't
18:20
want this whipping you know it's so and
18:23
so that's what happened I went upstairs
18:25
and my mom was like what does that no
18:26
somebody cuz it was on my front porch
18:28
and she came upstairs but I didn't get a
18:29
whip and she took me to the hospital but
18:31
that's how my mom ruled wow yeah yeah
18:34
wow damn yeah you still got a bullet
18:36
wound um it's yeah well it's small it
18:40
was a little 22 you know it it traveled
18:42
and came back out okay but I always tell
18:44
I'm going survive I got shot she was
18:45
like boy you a get shot you shot
18:47
yourself like I got shot who shot you me
18:50
with a hammer
18:53
ham that's that remind me that biggie
18:55
song who shot you shot you me me raise
18:58
your hand if you shot yourself and so
19:00
yeah I don't I don't have and I I I
19:02
don't have survivors remorse I'm just
19:04
I'm so grateful that that I'm here I'm
19:07
grateful for the relationships that I
19:09
had growing up because those
19:11
relationships made me the person that I
19:13
am today you know even the the people
19:15
that I hung out with that were you know
19:16
gang bangers drug dealers I'm grateful
19:18
for them because um they they they kept
19:21
me out of the so they die so that I can
19:24
live you know if that makes sense
19:26
absolutely Minister I'm grateful for
19:27
that mvin Mayo is here come on they call
19:31
him the gospel cop cop that's what they
19:34
call him man he has an he has an amazing
19:36
story we just play this song bow down
19:38
and understand the origin of that the
19:40
song that brought us together is a song
19:42
called God Did It we have Heather on the
19:44
line from Delaware she wanted to speak
19:46
to you if you want to speak to this man
19:47
too phone lines are open go ahead
19:51
Heather Heather you there Heather be can
19:54
you hear me yes go ahead go ahead
19:56
Heather I was about to start talking I'm
19:58
a first time caller so I just want to
19:59
say hey everybody we got a first time
20:05
caller celebration bro all right go
20:07
ahead
20:08
Heather so when Heather be said that she
20:11
was sitting in the car she was listening
20:12
to music the same thing happened to me
20:14
but you all were playing it
20:17
wow my life wasn't the best I went
20:20
through some things and you know now I
20:23
see that God did it like I'm eight years
20:26
clean thank god wow
20:29
come on come on come on come on come on
20:34
my four-year-old loved this song let me
20:35
tell you I play it every morning it
20:37
gives me the strength to keep going
20:38
because at the end of the day I know
20:40
that everything that I go through that
20:41
day God did it I might not notice at the
20:44
time that he's doing it that he's doing
20:46
it but when I look back I didn't grow up
20:48
in church I didn't have a relationship
20:50
with God but as I got older I'm in my
20:52
30s now so as I got older things like
20:55
weren't going my way and I didn't know
20:58
what to do so I turned to God and I
21:00
wanted peace in my life and that's what
21:03
I've gotten I've gotten so much
21:05
peace and and God did it every day I
21:08
know that God did it oh my gosh how does
21:11
that make you feel to he man it's it's I
21:15
give all the glory to God the Bible say
21:16
he inhabits the Praises of his people
21:19
and um the Bible say if I don't praise
21:20
him the rocks of crowd just the fact
21:21
that she's praising God right there that
21:23
mean the Rocks don't have to Crow for
21:24
her and so that gives me joy that makes
21:26
me want to keep going that tells me that
21:28
what I'm doing is not in vain you know
21:31
and I'm I'll keep continuing to minister
21:32
I was telling my wife I I will Minister
21:34
there's times I've been having chest
21:35
pains and sometimes I'm singing and I'm
21:37
like if I die I die but I'm Gonna Keep
21:40
continue to to sing and give God praise
21:42
to save somebody and so the fact that
21:44
that song reached her that way it's a
21:46
it's a joyful it's a joyful thing and
21:48
I'm I'm grateful for it you know how
21:49
good it is you know your kids listen to
21:51
your music like I'm going be honest to
21:52
you I don't really listen to Shade 45
21:55
because there's a lot of music on there
21:56
that I don't agree with but I do listen
21:58
to y'all every morning because you all
22:00
have this this feeling that y'all this
22:03
vibe that y'all give off that gives me
22:05
the good spirits for that day you know
22:06
what I mean so like my four-year-old
22:09
asked Mom can we listen to God did it
22:11
yes we can here we go that's like it's
22:14
very motivational it keeps your spirits
22:16
High you know I went through a lot of
22:18
downs like I was depressed for a very
22:20
long time and I got out of it and nobody
22:23
did that but God there you go have there
22:25
where's your four-year-old what's your
22:26

27:42
the suffering of this present time is
27:44
not worthy enough to be compared to what
27:47
he has to offer us amen when we get over
27:49

30:02
intervention talk about it divine
30:05
intervention preach homie and when you
30:07
are able to recognize it you are truly
30:09
blessed this is divine intervention the
30:11
way this thing came full circle I don't
30:13
know if I ever felt this way in a radio
30:15
Studio watching the minister sing from
30:18
his heart it didn't come from a physical
30:21
place in his body it was inside of his
30:24
heart I saw this man B Bell is that the
30:27
word Bellow belting this out or I saw
30:30
him getting these these notes out I saw
30:33
him digging and and I had to come to his
30:36
assistance on the hook you know
30:38
I hope he shares his performance fee
30:41
with
30:43
me this was amazing to witness I'm so
30:46
glad we got it on uh on camera so we're
30:49
going to put this up on sway Universe on
30:50
the YouTube channel as well as we live
30:53
on air um I want to take these callers
30:56
right HB
30:57
yeah just really quickly cuz you said
30:59
something about this being divine
31:01
intervention I think a lot of times
31:03
we'll hear something and feel something
31:05
in our spirit and in my in our hearts
31:07
and we'll feel like I'm tripping I'm
31:09
crazy but be obedient be obedient
31:12
because again it was no accident that I
31:15
jumped in the car and turned on channel
31:18
64 mhm I have my own playlist you know
31:22
but something was just I was moved to do
31:24
it I was moved to do it and we here and
31:27
then I was moved to to DM him you know
31:30
what I mean like be obedient you just
31:33
never know where God is leading you you
31:36
have to be obedient and you're not crazy
31:38
you're not tripping it's it's that
31:41
feeling that we all feeling here right
31:42
now yeah that's that's the feeling that
31:45
I follow that's the feeling right when
31:46
you get that feeling that's why I say
31:48
it's a feeling it's a feeling when you
31:50
get that feeling you got to go with it
31:52
right you got to go with it man I
31:55
appreciate that God did it man we got m
31:57
Mayo is here man let's turn it up a
31:59
little bit we got a lot of callers yes
32:00
we do this is how we do good news
32:02
Thursdays we you know at the end of the
32:04
call you know we we we we want people to
32:06
tell their stories so folks know that
32:08
every day ain't you know you might it
32:11
might be hard for you today you might be
32:13
going through something you might be
32:14
walking through fire you hear these
32:16
stories and find out that other folks
32:18
are doing it too they're going through
32:19
it too but they made it yeah they made
32:21
it through it which means you can too
32:24
turn it up a little bit torch we got
32:25
Britney on the line from Arkansas what
32:27
upy a first time
32:29
[Music]
32:31

32:33
morning how you doing
32:35
Britney I'm doing good I'm doing very
32:38
good like I'm been giving God the praise
32:41
and you know thankful to be able to talk
32:44
to y'all this morning I've been on the
32:46
line for hours and had to call back
32:48
three times but I made it you made it
32:51
you made it tell us your story tell the
32:53
minister your story
32:55
too um I have been doing a dealing with
32:58
a lot of
32:59
illness and I've recently had three
33:02
biopsies and I got one more on the way
33:05
and I just got all my test results back
33:09
and no cancer and I am believing this
33:12
last one will be no cancer wowow I will
33:15
be here to to take care of my kids yeah
33:19
which my youngest one's birthday is
33:21
today so she was trying to talk to y'all
33:23
this morning but I'm I'm just I had to
33:26
get my testimony out because you know I
33:30
always was saying like why me but then I
33:32
had to think I'm not the only one going
33:34
through this um so uh today has just
33:39
been a really a thankful Thursday for me
33:43
amen wow you want to say anything to him
33:46
praise God praise God you know I've been
33:49
I've dealt with the same thing I had
33:50
cancer twice cancer yeah I had um cancer
33:54
um Touch of colon cancer that they were
33:56
able to cut out um no chemo I just had
33:59
um skin cancer um about a year ago and
34:03
they had a cut a patch out the size of a
34:05
a grapefruit of my shoulder and um and I
34:08
just prayed I prayed and I spoke it over
34:10
myself I spoke healing over myself and
34:12
sister I just want you to know that the
34:13
power of life and death is in your
34:16
tongue as long as you speak healing over
34:19
yourself as long as you are positive
34:21
over yourself God will bring you out of
34:24
it because he has to bring you out of it
34:26
because it's in the word the Bible says
34:29
you have not because you ask not and so
34:31
you ask God for healing he has to heal
34:34
you and so keep the faith sister and
34:35
just know that everything's going to
34:36
work out long as you got God in your
34:38
heart amen wow amen thank you Britney

long a while back um I called him before
35:13
my husband passed away in a car accident
35:16
then my mother passed away then my
35:17
father um my son Caleb my 11-year-old
35:21
now has been trying to get over to miss
35:23
Heather be's house forever in a day but
35:26
um
35:27
the reason why I'm calling is because my
35:29
now 17-year-old has gotten contact with
35:32
his father over 12 years and we'll be
35:35
seeing him for the first time next month
35:39
in
35:40
Jersey god it Jesus did it oh God did
35:45
it they they have been a strange for how
35:47
many years they hadn't seen each other
35:50
12 Years sir I said 11 but he's 17 about
35:53
to be 18 but 12 years it's been 12 years
35:56
you trying to make the connection happen
35:58
why why would Why didn't it
36:00
happen well we met in the Marine Court I
36:04
ended up having another kid with him as
36:06
well which is my son Caleb and Gabriel
36:09
um Gabriel has made contact with him um
36:12
we're doing babysits right now but he's
36:14
going to be seeing his father next month
36:16
for spring break and all I can say is
36:21
God he waited a long time for this so oh
36:25
Jesus H God did it God Did It sister God
36:29
did it yes did I'm actually at a lost
36:33
for
36:34
words but this one God did it you know
36:38
nobody but God
36:40
yes enjoy it take pictures yeah yeah
36:44
save it a moment I'm not going that's
36:46
all right tell him to take pictures save
36:48
it a moments okay and and I I commend
36:51
you for you know not being in the way of
36:54
that Father and Son establishing a bond
36:57
between themselves right and that's
37:00
going to do so much for your son I could
37:02
say that from a a person who didn't grow
37:05
up with a father in the household I
37:07
yearned to know more about my father so
37:09
as I became an adult and got a chance to
37:11
sit and talk with him it was a great
37:13
closure for me it was a a you know it
37:15
was a Great Awakening for me so
37:17
congratulations to you Elizabeth salute
37:20
to you Elizabeth and you a citizen
37:25
Elizabeth
37:31
[Music]
37:35
right now our new brother right here
37:38
minister mvin Mayo it's a feeling Matt
37:40
Matt is on the line in Jersey jersey
37:43
stand up welcome morning morning
37:45
everybody hey I just want to quick quick
37:47
tell that two years ago um I had Co
37:50
really bad pray I wasn't a big believer
37:53
two years ago I had Co really bad had
37:55
pneumonia um and I felt a presence and
37:58
that same in that same two years I broke
38:00
my neck that same year also felt another
38:04
presence I never believed really but
38:06
once you feel that you you can't go back
38:08
from it's something that like it's hard
38:11
to express words but once you feel it
38:13
it's great feel it and it changed my
38:15
whole life um honestly like and even
38:20
even now it's even for my sports team
38:22
the Raiders get fired to McDaniels and
38:25
get AP in there we're changing
38:27
everything God did it God did it God did
38:31
it even got the ra as a new coach that's
38:35
right it's amazing feeling and I just
38:37
want everybody to know that if they
38:38
don't believe that hopefully everybody
38:39
gets that feeling in life at one point
38:41
and another remember we used to say that
38:44
too we used to do this segment Matt and
38:46
I say and I know because I would give
38:48
people who DM me and say sway I'm not a
38:51
Believer and I used to say man I don't
38:54
know you could still you you receiver
38:57
whether you're a Believer or not you a
39:00
receiver that's why you having this
39:01
feeling right what makes me weird and
39:05
what's a weird feeling is how many signs
39:06
did I miss prior to that because of what
39:09
Heather said being
39:11
obedient voice and it changed my whole
39:14
life I quit my job and everything
39:16
because I I was I was taken away from my
39:18
family working I was a lineman before
39:20
working thousands of hours over time and
39:22
it ain't about that it ain't about the
39:24
money it ain't about all that it's about
39:26
being family taking Jesus it's great
39:28
it's great feeling come on Matt wow you
39:31
say got any words from Matt wow well
39:34
math you got you definitely have the
39:35
faith I always cool back to me right now
39:39
so I want to spread it that's right it
39:40
said if you have faith of a mustard seed
39:42
that you can move M you can say to the
39:44
mountains move from here to there and
39:46
those mountains have to move and so you
39:48
definitely got the faith and so I just
39:49
say Keep the Faith man God did
39:52
it God bless God bless mat you a citizen
39:56
CZ
40:02
SW I can't sing a lick but this song
40:05
make me feel like I'm L
40:07
vro we got raml on the line talk to us
40:11
raml welcome good news Thursdays what's
40:14
going on Sway in the Morning Trac y
40:16
about Tracy hey 1804 game what's
40:20
goody what's happening so look um I used
40:24
to live in Richmond Virginia I'm from
40:26
nor New Jersey my family moved down to
40:29
Richmond and to be honest you know what
40:31
I mean I was a piece of crap and I I
40:34
used to sell drugs in kraton CT Mosby CT
40:40
um BME all of the projects in Richmond
40:44
and when I say piece of crap I was
40:47
playing both sides of the fence I was
40:49
supplying all of the projects and they
40:51
was beefing it and I like to apologize
40:53
to you Mayo because a lot of that I'm
40:56
talking from 89 all the way to maybe 94
41:00
we terrorized those projects it was
41:02
about the money it wasn't about y'all
41:04
kids and all of that and um I don't know
41:06
if you remember a guy named D Jesus told
41:10
us not to mess with y'all I think they
41:13
used to call you mayo or mayo or
41:15
whatever miy Micky either May us not to
41:17
mess with you right they said not to
41:20
mess with y'all and unfortunately de de
41:22
passed on and we we we didn't and and my
41:26
life just changed from from just dealing
41:29
down there in Virginia because you know
41:32
how how bad it was you know the murders
41:35
the the the drugs and everything and I
41:37
was a part of that I was I was was was
41:39
doing that and to find somebody to tell
41:42
me don't deal with that kid like he got
41:44
a future he he's this and he that you
41:47
know at at first I was like ah whatever
41:49
that it it was almost like a challenge
41:50
now that now we got to get this dude but
41:52
my brothers my brothers who are
41:55
preachers now
41:56
they used to work with me and they they
41:59
reiterated n we not messing like you
42:01
know we just got told not to mess with
42:03
this dude and a long story short we went
42:06
to Virginia Union University so I I was
42:08
when I say a piece of crap I'm I'm
42:10
trying to please my parents by going to
42:12
school but I was in the streets heavy
42:15
and one day we were coming from school
42:18
and my brothers um they were like look
42:21
man we got to change our lives and we
42:24
were coming I I don't know if you
42:25
remember hugan not
42:27
um coming from Virginia Union we were on
42:29
hugenot road going to Chesterfield and
42:31
there's the bridge we were going over
42:33
that bridge and my brothers we were
42:36
having this conversation about changing
42:37
our lives and while we were having this
42:40
conversation unbounce to us we couldn't
42:44
see anything it was like God had that
42:47
car in in elevated to where we were just
42:50
suspended in air and couldn't see out
42:53
the windows or nothing and this
42:54
conversation was really deep as far as
42:57
changing our lives my mother our
42:59
mother's in the church and she used to
43:01
tell us look you you can't keep doing
43:03
this you can't keep straddle the fence
43:06
and we we actually put our hands on each
43:07
other's hands and we made a pack to
43:10
change our lives my brothers are still
43:12
preachers to this day they have a church
43:14
in in patteron New Jersey and
43:16
unfortunately I strayed they went right
43:20
and I end up going to jail and I got
43:23
leared the hard way you know and I again
43:26
I'd like to apologize for how we
43:28
terrorized those projects shooting in
43:30
the daylight not caring not not oh my
43:34
God I I you know I get choked up
43:37
thinking about it because we we were
43:38
terrible y your childhood like you guys
43:41
couldn't come outside sometimes when we
43:43
when we were beefing with mody and
43:44
kraton and I'm being a piece of crap
43:47
dealing with both both sides giving them
43:49
guns from New York giving them drugs
43:51
from New York just perpetuating that
43:53
crap and and it just it it it imploded
43:57
and yeah I went to prison and when I
43:59
came home I got my family straight I'm
44:02
saved I'm I'm I I love the Lord I love
44:05
listening to this station I'm so glad
44:07
you're there mayo and and just you're
44:09
the man bro thank you brother you're the
44:11
man thank you brother you know exactly
44:13

44:15

44:18
want to say I appreciate you man thank
44:19

44:21
have to tell you I forgive you because I
44:23
forgive you you know what I mean but you
44:26
did what you had to do to survive back
44:27
then you know and and just stuff that
44:29
happens but let me tell y'all something
44:31
I'm a police officer for 19 years right
44:34
mhm I seen more murders growing up as a
44:37
kid than I have as a police officer oh
44:40
wow yes yes I did more murders growing
44:43
up as a kid I was standing beside my
44:46
well we call him my cousin but we call
44:47
him my uncle but he's really my cousin
44:49
you know older cousin he was shot
44:51
standing beside me I'm had to be 12 or
44:53
13 years old this is the type of stuff
44:55
that traumatized um the kids from the
44:57
project and so man I appreciate you
44:59
calling you taking responsibility for
45:01
that man and you know God bless you I'll
45:03
continue to pray for you man thank you
