US: Storm Surge Floods Boardwalk Just An Hour Before High Tide.
Oct 9, 2026
Margate City, United States - September 26, 2026 Gray floodwater covered the beachfront boardwalk on Saturday, reaching a white picket fence about an hour before high tide. The Margate City Fire Department posted footage from September 26 showing water spread across the boardwalk and surrounding the base of a “Danger, No Jumping or Diving” sign. A torn flag hung from a nearby pole, while another sign was partially submerged. The flooding came as a nor’easter was centered about 170 miles southeast of Atlantic City. The Weather Prediction Center had coastal flood warnings in effect along the New Jersey shore, with major flooding expected over several high tides. Wind gusts along the coast topped 50 mph as the storm pushed water into coastal communities. Roads and vehicles were reported underwater from Atlantic City to Point Pleasant Beach, while power outages across New Jersey exceeded 30,000 around noon. The storm also forced about 20 people from a hotel in Edgewater after water reached waist level. Gov. Mikie Sherrill warned that a Saturday afternoon lull did not mean the storm was over. No deaths were reported in New Jersey.
