Los Angeles, United States - October 11, 2026 10/11/2026 08:26 am GMT-0700 LONG BEACH, Calif. – Powerful waves continued to pound the Long Beach Peninsula Sunday morning as city officials braced for additional coastal flooding and damage from swells associated with Tropical Storm Rachel. According to City News Service, eight structures across 13 addresses have been red-tagged, with another structure yellow-tagged following days of destructive surf that damaged waterfront homes and portions of a boardwalk. Mandatory evacuations remain in effect for homes along the 6400 and 6500 blocks of Seaside Walk, while evacuation warnings have been issued for several surrounding areas. The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood warning through 3 p.m. Sunday, with waves of 4 to 7 feet and high tides exceeding 7.5 feet expected. City crews have begun moving 45,000 cubic yards of sand to reinforce the shoreline, while heavy equipment is placing massive sandbags weighing more than 3,000 pounds along vulnerable areas. Forecasters warned that the combination of tropical storm-generated swells, elevated tides, and strong winds could cause additional structural damage, beach erosion, and coastal flooding through Sunday.
