US: Checking His Phone While Stranded 260 Feet Up Cliff During High Risk Mount Yonah Rescue.

Georgia, United States - August 25, 2026 A climber stranded on the west face of Mount Yonah was rescued after calling 911 around 7 p.m. on August 25, 2026. The climber became stranded while free climbing and was unable to move either up or down. A drone located him about 260 feet up on a narrow ledge measuring roughly 20 by 20 inches. Video shows the climber standing on the steep granite cliff, holding onto the rock and checking his phone while firefighters prepare rescue ropes above him. White County firefighter Will Roper rappelled down the rock face, reached the climber and secured him with a harness. The two were then hauled back up the cliff together using the rope system. Crews completed the rescue about 42 minutes after arriving. The climber was not injured. White County Fire Services, EMS, Emergency Management and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources took part in the rescue.
