CRACKED SOIL IN THE DRIED-UP SECTION OF THE RIVER KHARTOUM, SUDAN -AUG. 25: Falling water levels have exposed sections of the Blue Nile riverbed and formed small islands in Sudan's capital Khartoum amid high temperatures and reduced rainfall. Anadolu footage recorded on Tuesday, Aug. 25, showed large stretches of exposed riverbed along the Blue Nile, one of the Nile River's main tributaries, as water levels receded. The decline comes as Sudan's agricultural sector faces severe pressure. Thousands of acres of farmland have remained uncultivated amid the conflict that began in April 2023, while low river flows and delayed rainfall have further disrupted agricultural production. The Blue Nile, which originates from Lake Tana in Ethiopia, meets the White Nile in Khartoum to form the Nile River. The Nile system crosses several African countries before flowing north through Sudan and Egypt and emptying into the Mediterranean Sea.
