(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) DEMONSTRATOR MAN SAYING: “We are from the Ayacucho region. We have come here outraged because Juntos por el Peru, the People's Party, won decisively in Peru. The people of the south and the north have always suffered. Ordinary people continue to suffer, and Juntos por el Peru clearly won. But now they want to commit a major fraud so that the truth does not come out. Throughout our lives, Peruvians have been deceived. We have always been misled. Today, technology allows us to see reality. How can they commit such a large fraud with the votes from abroad when Juntos por el Peru has already won in Peru.” 4. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) DEMONSTRATOR WOMAN SAYING: “From here, we call on all provinces to investigate and to defend our vote, the vote of the people, the vote of Peruvians. Brothers and sisters, this is what we demand to ONPE and the National Jury of Elections. They cannot deceive us. Not only us—we are not children, and even children can see what is happening. Today, we demand that the complaints raised by our fellow Peruvians abroad be thoroughly investigated. They must not be ignored. We call for a full investigation and for the matter not to be left unresolved."LIMA, PERU - JUNE 13, 2026: Hundreds of citizens marched through the streets of downtown after the latest election results were released on Saturday, June 13, in Lima, Peru. Supporters and citizen groups marched toward the headquarters of the National Jury of Elections after presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori moved into the lead in the official vote count, following several days in which left-wing candidate Roberto Sanchez had maintained a slight advantage. With 98.25% of ballots processed, the gap between the two candidates is fewer than 5,000 votes. The demonstration reflected the anticipation and political tension gripping the country as the vote count continues in one of the closest elections in recent years.
