Our hearts are bleeding, and we are disappointed with the Peruvian electoral system. That is why there is distrust. That is why we feel offended, we feel violated, because our vote has not been respected. Because the relationship between the vote and the results does not match. That is why we are demanding new general elections." 3. VARIOUS OF PERUVIANS HOLDING BANNERS, FLAGS AND CHANTING SLOGANS 4. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) ANOTHER PERUVIAN CITIZEN PARTICIPATING IN PROTEST SPEAKING TO REPORTER, SAYING: "We are here to support. What we want is for the elections to be as transparent as possible and not to be constrained by a schedule, because I believe that the National Jury of Elections is there to ensure fair and transparent elections. What is more important than time? And I think that is why we will all support this. Because no matter who wins, the truth is what matters most. That is why we are supporting candidate Rafael López Aliaga, because he is presenting evidence of all the irregularities that exist in these elections, and I believe the best thing would be for them to be countered through a formal complaint with the evidence they are requesting regarding the tally sheets and the general voter registry, where there are votes that have not been fully counted in a transparent manner."LIMA, PERU - MAY 9, 2026: Hundreds of citizens gathered in the Peruvian capital Lima on Saturday, May 9, to protest the results of the presidential election, joined by far-right candidate Rafael Lopez Aliaga. Demonstrators marched through the streets carrying flags and banners as political tensions continued to rise following the vote. Uncertainty remains over which candidate will face Keiko Fujimori in the runoff election scheduled for June 7, as electoral authorities continue reviewing disputed results and vote counts. The protests come amid growing polarization in the country, with supporters of different political groups demanding transparency in the electoral process.
