VARIOUS OF CROWD GATHERED IN CENTRAL RAMALLAH SCRIPT Palestinians in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah marched on Tuesday, May 12, to mark the 78th anniversary of the Nakba, commemorating the displacement of Palestinians following the creation of Israel in 1948. Large crowds gathered in central Ramallah for the march, where participants carried Palestinian flags, black banners and symbolic keys representing the right of return for Palestinian refugees. Representatives of Palestinian groups and members of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization addressed the crowd during the event, according to Anadolu’s correspondent in Ramallah. Palestinians mark the Nakba each year in mid-May to remember the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians after Israel declared independence on May 14, 1948. More than 9,400 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons, facing torture, starvation, and medical neglect that have led to the deaths of dozens, according to Palestinian and Israeli rights groups.
