Thousands of demonstrators gathered in the Wedding district before marching towards a Rheinmetall facility, carrying placards calling for an end to arms supplies to Israel and expressing support for Palestinians. Ahead of the march, protesters observed a minute of silence to mark the anniversary of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide. Police, who had deployed in large numbers, intervened during the protest and detained multiple people. Rheinmetall’s Berlin facility, once used primarily to produce automotive parts, has increasingly been repurposed since last summer to manufacture components for artillery ammunition. Protesters accuse both the company and the German government of complicity in the ongoing genocide in Gaza by continuing to export arms to Israel. They are also demanding that Rheinmetall shut down this production facility.
