China: Shanghai sees surge in one-person companies.

Storyline Shanghai sees surge in one-person companies One-Person Companies, or OPCs, are popping up everywhere in China with industry data showing more than 500,000 nationwide. In Shanghai, young people are opening OPCs to start their new careers. This young man is a vlogger and an entrepreneur from Serbia. With only a computer, AI tools and a desk, he began a cross-border consultancy. Solo founder from Serbia: "Many Chinese companies want to enter into the Serbian market, so they contact me and ask questions, including about things like trade policies and international trade law." Other foreigners who want to start one-person companies use government support services which provide translation, trade and tax policy advice. Liu Bin, Chief representative for business operations, International Innovation Center: "They want to join this community to establish a global headquarters here. What they're really eyeing is China's advantages in AI computing power — not just in terms of technology, but also in terms of cost."
