ACTIVIST EMMY VONK SPEAKING TO REPORTER (Dutch)UTRECHT, NETHERLANDS - APR. 30: Protesters gathered in Utrecht on Thursday, Apr. 30, to condemn Israeli military’s attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters. The demonstrators assembled at the Utrecht central train station to voice their opposition to the interception of the aid convoy. During the march, participants staged a sit-in at a major city intersection, temporarily blocking bus traffic and causing significant transportation delays. Participants carried banners with messages such as ‘Stop the genocide in Gaza,’ ‘Boycott Israel,’ and ‘Help break the blockade’. Emmy Vonk, an activist who was previously detained by the Israeli army during a flotilla mission in October 2025, told Anadolu that the attack on international waters is a violation of human rights. The demonstration concluded peacefully back at the central train station. The flotilla, carrying humanitarian aid for Gaza, aims to break Israel’s blockade and open a humanitarian corridor by sea. Israel has imposed a blockade on the Gaza Strip since 2007, leaving about 1.5 million Palestinians out of roughly 2.4 million homeless after their homes were destroyed during the war.
