Where does your body store iron, magnesium and zinc? These three essential minerals are found throughout your body, but you might be surprised by how much is stored in your blood, bones and muscles. In this YouTube Short, expert nutritionist Dr Richie Kirwan explains how much iron, magnesium and zinc your body contains, where these minerals are stored, and why their location matters when understanding mineral deficiencies. Key Facts: Iron: The average adult carries approximately 3–4 grams of iron, with roughly two-thirds found in haemoglobin inside red blood cells. Haemoglobin is responsible for transporting oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body. A significant proportion of your remaining iron is stored for future use, including in the liver. Magnesium: Your body contains approximately 25 grams of magnesium, with more than half found in your bones. Less than 1% of your body's magnesium is found in your blood, meaning blood tests don't always reveal whether magnesium intake is inadequate. Zinc: Your body contains approximately 2–3 grams of zinc, with around 60% found in skeletal muscle. Much of your remaining zinc is found in your bones, with only a small proportion circulating in your blood. These minerals are incorporated into tissues and cells rather than simply circulating freely around your body. FAQ: Q: How much iron is in the human body? A: A typical adult contains approximately 3–4 grams of iron, with most of it involved in transporting oxygen through haemoglobin. Q: Where is magnesium stored in your body? A: More than half of your body's magnesium is stored in your bones, while much of the remainder is found in muscles and other soft tissues. Q: Where is zinc stored in your body? A: Approximately 60% of your body's zinc is found in skeletal muscle, with much of the remainder located in bones. Q: Can a blood test detect low magnesium? A: Not always. Because less than 1% of the body's magnesium is found in the blood, blood magnesium levels don't necessarily reflect total body magnesium stores. Q: Why does mineral storage matter? A: Minerals such as iron, magnesium and zinc are incorporated into important tissues and cells. Understanding where they're found helps explain their roles in the body and why deficiencies can be complex. #myprotein #wheyprotein #protein #nutrition ********************************* Myprotein is Rated Excellent on Trustpilot 🔔 Subscribe to our channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/MyproteinUK?sub_confirmation=1 📲 Download the Myprotein app: https://myprotein.onelink.me/IYeO/o2erh9hb The UK & Europe's Number 1 Online Sports Nutrition Brand, Myprotein.
