before we get into the charger let's
0:03
listen to it with the fratsonic system
0:06
either off or set to very
0:08
[Music]
0:21
low 60s So we're in the Scat Pack right
0:24
there's two trims RT and Scat Pack RT is
0:27
the slow one at 496
0:30
horsepower This is the Scat Pack So it
0:32
adds a track mode and a drag mode and a
0:35
custom mode So each mode drive mode has
0:38
its own level of sound and throaty growl
0:41
We like the drag mode cuz it's the
0:43
loudest but they also each drive have a
0:46
little enhanced uh driving dynamics as
0:49
well Um this is 670 horsepower The 0 to
0:53
60 is 3.3 seconds
0:56
Um you ready yep
1:05
I don't think I was ready Okay People
1:08
usually aren't I usually warn people
1:10
hang on to your phones I We did this in
1:12
Chicago and we had a longer straightaway
1:14
and there a few times phones weren't
1:16
flying and Oh gosh But
1:20
uh so uh that that felt more serious
1:24
than the
1:25
uh Hellcat did Yeah Well they say this
1:28
is faster than any of their Hellcats Now
1:31
they plan to do not only a four-door
1:33
version of this by the end of this year
1:36
but also a gas version both twodoor and
1:39
four-door by the time next year So
1:42
people will have their options right um
1:45
I think it makes sense to do an EV
1:47
muscle car If muscle cars are about
1:50
power and athleticism and throaty growls
1:53
I think they did this right but again
1:55
people will have their options you know
1:58
but I think they're going to make a gas
2:00
version of this They did a really good
2:02
job Handles like a dream You know most
2:04
EVs are so heavy the batteries are heavy
2:07
that it's just low center of gravity
2:09
really enhances the handling
2:12
Um we customize this ambient lighting to
2:14
any color you know in the rainbow as
2:18
well on any given ride
2:22
She showed me that on the wagon ear Yeah
2:36
So the Charger does look and feel really
2:38
impressive I think that the rumbling
2:41
that you get from the drag mode uh
2:44
really does help even if it's all
2:46
artificial Hold on Here we're about to
2:48
go

3:14
[Music]
3:19
And you can hear that it's not imitating
3:22
a V8 so much as enhancing the sound that
3:25
the car naturally
3:27
has And it really is a muscle car
3:30
looking
3:31
car And it's quite comfortable inside
3:34
But what's kind of funny is that you can
3:36
see it's got a lot in common with the
3:39
Wagon Ear S which has a different
3:41
personality There were also longer lines
3:44
for the Chargers than any of the other
3:46
muscle cars People really had to wait
3:49
for that and that was on press
3:57
[Music]
4:00
days Here's a Caddy swinging around
4:03
That's just for comparison
4:07
[Music]
4:24
The Chargers were really the only cars
4:26
that you could hear to any large degree
4:28
on this electric car test
4:31
track Now again a lot of the screeching
4:34
that you're hearing is not because the
4:36
cars don't handle well It's because
4:37
they're running on concrete which just
4:40
makes a lot of
4:42
squealing fun as it
4:45
is And there's some variation in how
4:48
hard the drivers are pushing the cars I
4:50
don't think they push the wagon quite
4:53
nearly as hard as the Charger
5:00
[Music]
5:13
One thing to remember about the Charger
5:15
is it is a full-size car It is actually
5:18
longer than the last one This one's only
5:21
two doors It's got a frunk which is the
5:24
front trunk The frunk is actually quite
5:26
small We've got a still shot of that
5:30
Sorry about the lack of focus in these I
5:32
was doing some of them with a 35mm
5:34
camera It doesn't focus as
5:36
[Music]
5:49
[Music]
5:52
well You will know it when you hear a
5:54
Charger coming down the street
5:58
If you're wondering why I have so much
6:00
footage of Chargers running down the
6:02
track it's because they were pretty much
6:04
constantly in
6:05
use Unlike say the Volkswagen that you
6:09
occasionally see uh there was a longer
6:12
line for the Chargers there was always
6:14
somebody waiting and it seemed like they
6:16
were always being driven They weren't
6:18
resting at all
6:20
And it might be that the previous SRT uh
6:24
trademark of a car that you can race all
6:26
day is still in force even with an
6:30
electric Anyway this is Dave signing out
