Good morning. Welcome to Insights with
0:03
Pastor John. Today I want to talk about
0:07
the church
0:09
and uh you know one of the things that
0:12
we have to understand is the church
0:16
is Jesus's body. That's all of us.
0:22
The church isn't a building.
0:24
The church isn't a place of worship. The
0:28
church is the people that have received
0:31
Jesus as Lord and Savior.
0:34
Uh, a lot of things go on these days.
0:38
Uh, a lot of things we're seeing that in
0:41
America anyway, you never expected to
0:43
see.
0:45
um having a group of protesters invade a
0:51
church service where people are are
0:54
praying, hearing the word of God being
0:57
preached, singing songs and coming to
1:00
disrupt the service
1:02
um
1:05
is something we haven't seen in this
1:07
country
1:09
in its entire 250 year history as a
1:12
country.
1:13
Uh Christians are being persecuted all
1:16
over the world. Uh churches are attacked
1:20
in countries. Christians are taken
1:23
captive. Uh they're killed. Uh and I do
1:28
mean all over the world. And
1:33
the church hasn't suffered the
1:35
persecution it's suffering now since
1:39
back at the beginning of the church in
1:42
the first century church.
1:45
We started out, the church started out
1:49
as a
1:52
as Jewish believers that had received
1:54
Jesus
1:56
and they were immediately
1:59
brought under scrutiny by the Jewish
2:05
uh rulers of the synagogues and the
2:08
Sanhedrin court.
2:11
And then
2:13
the church began to suffer persecution
2:15
at the hands of
2:18
their own people.
2:20
And then they they the church shifted
2:25
and moved into reaching out into the
2:28
non-Jewish world and the spreading of
2:30
the gospel, which if you read through
2:32
the first six chapters of Acts, you you
2:36
would get a very good understanding of
2:38
the founding of the church and what
2:40
happened there.
2:41
It's very important that you understand
2:44
how the church progressed.
2:47
But then because the church was
2:50
considered Jewish,
2:52
um they began
2:54
and they were growing so rapidly
2:57
everywhere in the Roman Empire
2:59
that the church fell under persecution
3:03
that lasted for close to 300 years.
3:07
uh Christians were executed, Christians
3:10
were tortured, Christians were as we all
3:13
hear fed to the lions. Um and then
3:19
about 300 years after the church comes
3:21
into existence
3:23
uh
3:27
with emperor Constantine, it becomes the
3:30
state religion of Rome. But in that in
3:33
that interim from the time of Nero
3:38
until Constantine, the church was
3:41
attacked.
3:42
They they literally tried to wipe
3:46
the church out. Tried to wipe Christians
3:49
out of existence. Yet the church
3:52
continued to grow.
3:54
And it's one thing for us to
3:57
uh very important thing for us to recall
3:59
and remember is that the church grows
4:03
through adversity.
4:05
When things happen that you sit there
4:08
and you're it boggles the mind in
4:10
today's world that the church would come
4:13
under attack from anyone. Yet here we
4:16
are uh dealing with this today.
4:20
And you know, the church was
4:26
called out from among the people.
4:29
We're supposed to be a separate people.
4:32
We live in this world, but we're not of
4:35
this world.
4:37
And the church has taken a lot of uh
4:40
hits because we've had people that we
4:45
elevated
4:46
that had moral failures and uh some of
4:50
them were corrupt.
4:52
Um and people look at at church and at
4:57
Christians say, "Well, you're no
4:58
different than I am, so why should I
5:00
even be uh considering this?" But
5:05
for at least 40 years,
5:08
uh, Christianity was mocked. It's still
5:12
mocked in some places, put down. And you
5:15
have people out there that are claiming
5:17
to be Christians that uh,
5:21
their lives don't match that. Their
5:25
lives don't show us uh, a change. And
5:29
that's one thing about being a Christian
5:32
that's absolutely imperative
5:36
is that your life
5:39
should change.
5:41
Jesus, he accepts you as you are and
5:45
then the word tells us that you have to
5:50
change and that change has to be come
5:54
from the inside not the outside.
5:57
Uh Jesus even addressed it himself. And
6:00
what was the thing he said? He he told
6:02
the Pharisees
6:04
uh to go and clean the inside purse cuz
6:08
they were all about their appearance,
6:10
about who they were, about what they
6:12
were watching. Uh about how they prayed
6:15
on street corners and wore the finest
6:17
clothes. And Jesus said, "Don't do that.
6:22
clean the inside of first because what
6:25
you have there is a whitened septic. You
6:29
You look great on the outside, but
6:30
you're full of dead men's bones.
6:33
The church has to look different than
6:35
the world.
6:37
It has to act different than the world.
6:40
where we we are told in scriptures,
6:44
especially if you spend the time to
6:46
study all of Paul's writings between
6:50
from Romans all the way to Hebrews,
6:53
everything that he talked about was
6:55
separation, becoming something different
6:58
than what the world is. And you have to
7:01
do that. If you're a Christian, you have
7:04
to change. Uh things about you have to
7:07
change. Your focus has to change. the
7:10
things that you're looking for or
7:12
looking to
7:14
uh
7:16
live your life accordingly should line
7:19
up to God's word. And if it doesn't, uh
7:22
it's not God that's in error, it's you
7:24
that's in error.
7:27
U
7:29
you know, I I stop and think about the
7:32
way church has changed just in the 42
7:34
years I've been saved. Uh, do you
7:38
realize that a lot of churches have
7:40
armed security in the parking lots and
7:43
outside their buildings because people
7:45
attack them? You have people that have
7:48
no consciousness towards God. They have
7:53
no problem whatsoever attacking
7:55
churches. Um, last year alone in the
8:00
United States, I'm not talking about in
8:02
some third world countries where uh it's
8:05
well known and well documented that they
8:07
attack and kill Christians. I'm talking
8:09
about right here in the United States.
8:11
Uh people going into a Catholic church
8:14
and opening opening fire on the on the
8:18
people that are there trying to worship,
8:21
killing people.
8:23
uh other churches or people driving
8:25
vehicles through the walls and attacking
8:27
the the the people that are in the
8:30
church and trying to kill as many as
8:32
they can.
8:34
Um,
8:35
our most recent thing was they didn't
8:39
kill anybody, but they came in and
8:40
disrupted a church service
8:43
uh because they don't agree or because
8:46
they thought the pastor of that church
8:49
was a member of ICE.
8:53
Um,
8:55
but at the same time, just to show you
8:58
how skewed this is, they would not dare
9:01
do that
9:02
to a mosque,
9:05
but they would do it to a Jewish
9:06
synagogue. And they have. They've done
9:09
it in New York. They've done it in other
9:10
places. They've set the buildings on
9:12
fire. They've attacked the people
9:14
inside. They've killed people as they
9:16
come out of the synagogue.
9:18
In the United States,
9:21
the one place in the whole world
9:24
where we're our right to worship is in
9:28
the Constitution. And this is a
9:30
protected space. This is a space where
9:34
Christians or whatever are supposed to
9:37
be able to worship God freely.
9:40
Yet today,
9:43
we're under attack.
9:46
So I wanted to I wanted to remind you
9:53
the church has always been under attack
9:56
since its inception.
9:59
Jesus said that he would that upon this
10:02
rock I will build my church and the
10:04
gates of hell shall not prevail against
10:06
it. Well stop and think about that. Upon
10:11
this rock I will build my church and the
10:13
gates of hell shall not prevail against
10:16
it. That telling you that there is a
10:20
war. There's a war that is instituted by
10:24
the enemy. He uses people. He uses
10:27
people that have twisted ideologies. He
10:30
uses people that are fanatics and uh
10:35
that are violently angry at everything.
10:40
And the whole purpose is to do
10:43
everything he can.
10:45
He doesn't care if you go to church. He
10:48
doesn't care if you
10:51
uh say you're a Christian. What he cares
10:54
about is if Christ is changing you.
10:58
Because if you embrace Christ
11:03
and you live Christ
11:06
with your full life, you are his enemy.
11:11
Peter said that the devil goeth about as
11:15
a roaring lion seeking whom he may
11:18
devour.
11:21
Jesus said, "The thief cometh to kill,
11:22
steal, and destroy, but I came to give
11:25
life and give it more abundantly."
11:27
Um, you can't hold hands with the world
11:31
and be a Christian.
11:34
It doesn't work that way. We have to
11:37
understand how important it is to
11:40
separate ourselves. U, that doesn't mean
11:43
we become these weirdos that live in
11:46
these uh, small walled off communities
11:50
because that's not what he said either.
11:53
He gave us the great commission. He
11:55
said, "Go into the world and make
11:58
disciples, teaching them all the things
12:00
I've taught you, baptizing them in the
12:02
name of the Father, Son, and the Holy
12:03
Spirit." So, he sent us out as his
12:07
ambassadors, his emissaries
12:10
to bring people into his kingdom.
12:13
And the world
12:16
lives in darkness and they don't want to
12:18
see the light. and they get offended
12:21
when you when you are showing that
12:24
light. And so now we're at a place in in
12:28
our country where
12:31
the Christian faith is coming under deep
12:35
deep attack.
12:37
And if we're going to be the church,
12:41
we're going to have to go back and take
12:43
a look in the book of Acts and see what
12:46
the church did. in they continued to
12:48
pray, they continued to preach, they
12:51
continued to tell the truth, they
12:54
continued to help people that needed
12:56
help. And uh
12:59
we have to realize that the world does
13:02
not want
13:04
you to
13:06
um
13:10
represent Christ
13:12
truly. They don't care if you say you're
13:15
a Christian, but they don't want you to
13:17
live like one. And they definitely don't
13:20
want you to do the things that Christ
13:22
said to do. So, the battle's real. The
13:26
enemy is real.
13:29
Um, but we wrestle not against flesh and
13:32
blood, but against spiritual wickedness
13:33
in high places. And we have to keep in
13:37
mind that our our battle is not with the
13:40
person that's been deceived, but the one
13:42
that deceives them. And so we have to
13:45
proclaim the truth. We have to tell
13:47
them, "You're you're deceived. You
13:50
believe one thing, but that's not what
13:52
the word says." So today,
13:56
I would like for us to begin to pray
13:59
for
14:01
some specific things. The first thing is
14:05
for revival that the church will revive
14:09
itself and begin to to once again and
14:13
we've have done this many times but
14:15
begin to once again proclaim the gospel
14:18
as it is not a watered down uh gospel
14:23
that uh
14:26
doesn't resemble anything that the
14:28
church founders at the founding of the
14:31
church preached. But to preach that
14:33
gospel
14:35
to that Jesus came, he died on the
14:38
cross.
14:40
He was b he was in the grave for three
14:42
days and he rose from the dead. We have
14:45
the only church, the only message to the
14:50
to the world
14:53
that has a risen living savior.
14:57
Muhammad's dead, Buddha's dead. Um,
15:02
every major world religion that there is
15:06
uh outside of Christianity
15:10
does not have
15:12
a leader who's alive that founded it
15:16
except for the Christians because Jesus
15:19
Christ is sitting in heaven to the right
15:22
hand of the father waiting for the
15:24
father to send him back to gather the
15:26
church. And you and I need to be good
15:28
watchmen. We need to be watching for
15:30
Christ to return and we need to be
15:33
prepared to do what we need to be
15:34
prepared for.
15:37
And uh so I want to leave that with you
15:40
this week. Be the church, but be the
15:43
true church. Don't be a watered down
15:46
version of Christianity, but actually
15:49
live the life that Christ commanded.
15:53
And we'll see you guys next week. Fakes.
