here in the United States we
0:02
celebrate we have three holidays where
0:06
we celebrate soldiers We have uh armed
0:10
services
0:12
day and that's a day
0:14
for men and women that are serving in
0:17
the military that are wearing a uniform
0:21
Then we have Memorial uh Veterans Day
0:24
and that's for men and women that served
0:26
in the military and came home and hung
0:28
up their
0:30
uniforms And then we have Memorial Day
0:34
and Memorial Memorial Day
0:37
um is for those that never got
0:40
back And
0:42
so tomorrow you're going to be running
0:45
around with people that
0:47
are grilling hamburgers and hot dogs and
0:51
maybe throwing steaks on the grill And I
0:54
want you to keep this in mind Memorial
0:55
Day is the most expensive holiday there
0:57
is is far more expensive than Christmas
1:00
or any other day that we celebrate
1:02
because we're celebrating Memorial Day
1:04
and the freedoms that we have because of
1:06
all the men and women that have died to
1:09
give the people in this country the
1:11
freedoms that they
1:13
have I was looking this morning I saw
1:16
that almost 60,000 men and women died in
1:19
Vietnam They didn't come home from
1:21
Vietnam
1:24
My
1:26
grandfather Harold Hensley lived over in
1:29
Typton My mom was born in October of
1:32
1943 And my grandfather enlisted in the
1:35
US Army And
1:38
um they sent him to
1:40
England And while he was there and
1:43
marching around waiting on his orders
1:45
from Dwight David Eisenhower whom he met
1:48
face to face
1:50
um they decided they were going to
1:54
land on
1:57
D-Day and my grandfather when if you
2:00
ever watch that old TV show World at War
2:02
and you see those amphibious troop
2:04
carriers that are going up to the
2:06
beaches at Omaha Beach and Anio my
2:08
grandpa was in one of those
2:11
He said as the storms and the sea was
2:14
tossed by the waves that men grown men
2:16
were puking over the sides of those
2:18
ships And when they hit the beach and
2:20
the front came down and they come out of
2:21
the front of those troop carriers seven
2:23
out of 10 men died on the
2:27
beach My grandpa survived
2:33
One of my dad's uncles was on the USS
2:38
Indianapolis in the south in in the
2:41
Indian
2:42
Ocean Had this ship shot out from under
2:44
him He watched 650 of his fellow
2:47
soldiers get eaten by sharks as they
2:49
were floating in the water waiting to be
2:51
found They were sunk by a Japanese
2:53
submarine
2:58
When you see a a man or a woman wearing
3:01
a
3:03
uniform remember that when they
3:08
leave they may not come
3:11
home And when they don't come
3:14
home it's because they
3:18
believed that the rights that we have in
3:21
this country are worth dying for
3:27
It it it hurts my heart in the worst
3:30
kind of way when I see people disrespect
3:37
soldiers You may not You may be a person
3:40
that believes we shouldn't go to war or
3:41
any of those things but you know what
3:44
that person has put that uniform on and
3:46
they volunteered because we haven't
3:48
drafted anybody since the end of Vietnam
3:50
Okay so everybody you see today wearing
3:52
a uniform chose to
3:54
go knowing that when they go they may
3:58
not come
4:04
home When they struck the Twin
4:08
Towers thousands of young Americans join
4:11
the the
4:12
military to protect the country we live
4:16
in This is what Jesus said about it He
4:19
says "Greater love hath no man than
4:22
this that a man lay down his life for
4:25
his
4:29
friends." That's John
4:32
15:13 Stop and think about it
4:35
When those people put those uniforms on
4:38
those young men and women when they
4:40
enroll into a military academy to become
4:42
an officer in the in the United States
4:45
military they're agreeing to do
4:48
something and that is to serve and
4:51
protect this
4:53
country against all enemies foreign and
4:56
domestic They don't want to go to war
4:59
They don't want to shoot other people
5:01
They don't want to launch bombs and
5:03
rockets or or torpedoes and missiles
5:06
from ships and
5:08
submarines They want their families
5:11
safe They want them free from
5:14
harm And they put the uniform on for
5:17
that
5:18
reason I remember talking to brother Koi
5:20
several occasions on campouts about his
5:23
time in
5:25
Korea And while he was in Korea where he
5:28
was at he was guarding the Hoch Min
5:30
Highway the Hoch Min road That's where
5:31
the Hochmen Trail My uncle was on a ship
5:34
out in the
5:35
sea in the United States Navy at the
5:38
same time They were both in Korea
5:41
Brother Coy told me that for half the
5:43
time he was in there they froze to death
5:45
because they sent him to they sent him
5:46
to Korea with jungle with jungle
5:49
equipment And Korea is not the jungle
5:53
It's mountainous snow cold He said they
5:56
froze every
6:00
night But eventually they got the right
6:03
equipment and they had good food And
6:05
what they were doing was they were
6:07
trying to keep communists from coming
6:08
down the Ho Chi Min trail and invading
6:10
South Korea That's why they were
6:14
there My uncle used to tell stories
6:16
about it But I'm going tell you about
6:18
the stories my grandpa told
6:21
They landed on Omaha Beach and they were
6:24
charging up the beach and the Germans
6:27
were firing on them and seven out of 10
6:29
men were dying within 5 minutes trying
6:33
to get up that
6:36
beach trying to
6:38
stop tyranny in
6:42
Europe going to protect the people in
6:46
France and all the other parts of Europe
6:50
And my grandpa was there and he talked
6:51
about how they they were finally able to
6:53
get up to the line and blow up some of
6:55
the the uh the machine gun nest and
6:58
things that were there on the beach And
7:01
then after they got they actually got
7:04
through Omaha Beach and they went in
7:06
there my grandfather went to the Battle
7:09
of the
7:10
Bulge in the United States
7:12
Army and fought there Saw men die from
7:16
both
7:18
sides And when they finally won my
7:21
grandpa's last duty assignment before he
7:23
got shipped
7:25
home they sent him to a concentration
7:27
camp to liberate the
7:31
Jews And my grandpa had
7:34
pictures It was the most horrible thing
7:36
you have ever seen of what one human
7:39
being can do to
7:41
another My grandpa said they were
7:43
walking skeletons They were skeletons
7:45
with skin stretched across them They
7:47
could just barely walk
7:50
6 million Jews die My grandpa said they
7:54
couldn't even bury them They used
7:56
caterpillars you know cat trackers to
8:00
dig mass
8:02
graves and through the body sick and
8:05
covered them with quick line and buried
8:09
them because there were so many of them
8:11
there was no place to bury them
8:16
He said it was a smell he could never
8:19
forget the
8:21
atrocities that were committed on these
8:24
people And this last week as I was
8:26
watching the
8:27
news there's a young couple in
8:30
Washington DC outside the National
8:31
Jewish Museum of
8:33
Washington The young man was a Christian
8:36
The young girl was a Jew They were
8:39
getting engaged They were going to get
8:41
married and somebody who has
8:46
been galvanized by all this stuff we see
8:49
in there walked up and killed them
8:52
both simply
8:54
because and he was he was a Christian
8:56
but he was also Jewish by birth and
8:59
killed them because they're
9:05
Jews and I
9:07
think that on this Memorial
9:10
Day when you're eating that hamburger or
9:13
you're having that hot dog or you're
9:16
eating that steak or you're having some
9:18
brisket I think you should
9:20
pause and I think you should recognize
9:23
that the fact that you're sitting there
9:24
able to do that is because somebody's
9:28
dad somebody's mom somebody's uncle
9:31
somebody's
9:33
grandparent somebody's
9:35
ancestor put it on a United States
9:38
military uniform and says "I will make a
9:40
difference."
9:45
and they shipped somewhere they had
9:47
never been to before because we haven't
9:49
had a war in the United States since the
9:52
Civil
9:54
War There's been no wars here We've been
9:57
in wars but not here not in our homeland
10:02
And all of these men and women have been
10:04
shipped worldwide all over the
10:08
world to bring peace to a world that
10:11
doesn't want
10:15
it And know that the rights that we have
10:17
as
10:20
Americans are rights that nobody else in
10:23
this world
10:24
has And so I want to remind
10:27
you that when you see a
10:32
soldier shake their
10:35
hand tell them you appreciate what they
10:39
do Tell them thank you for your service
10:43
Cuz they didn't have to put that uniform
10:45
on They chose
10:48
to They chose to
10:53
But those aren't the only heroes that we
10:55
need to remember We also need to
10:58
remember the heroes that were police
11:01
officers and first
11:03
responders and firemen that have also
11:06
died who puts that uniform on and goes
11:09
to work every day Do you know it's
11:11
actually harder on a police officer than
11:13
it is a soldier because every day a
11:15
police officer goes to work is a day he
11:18
has to keep in mind that he may never
11:21
never ever see his family again
11:23
that
11:24
day This might be the last time I get to
11:27
hold my child kiss my wife and walk out
11:30
my front
11:32
door because cops aren't protected
11:35
either They wear a lot of protective
11:38
equipment but they aren't protected
11:41
either There's a whole lot of people in
11:45
uniforms that protect us
11:50
They protect us from ourselves and from
11:52
each
11:53
other Remember who they
11:58
are And remember the people who came
12:01
before
12:03
you who stood in the gap in this
12:07
church who prayed for this
12:11
church who taught in this church so that
12:15
you today would have an opportunity to
12:17
do the same thing
12:20
can't bring them back from the
12:22
dead nor would they want to come They
12:26
went on to be with Jesus They kept the
12:28
course They finished their race They're
12:29
out of
12:30
here Now it's our
12:34
turn But what we should do is focus in
12:38
on what they did Not wishing they would
12:41
come back but realizing that we when you
12:44
had people here for
12:48
decades that prayed over this church
12:50
they fasted over this
12:54
church and their focus was on how can I
12:57
keep this church open and growing and
12:59
going forward And that was their focus
13:02
That is what they focused
13:05
on And so for 70
13:10
3 years 72 years actually for 72
13:15
years These church doors have remained
13:20
open There are no big eyes and little
13:23
U's in the sight of God And there are no
13:25
big eyes and little U's in the kingdom
13:26
of God There's only one King of Kings
13:29
and one Lord of Lords The rest of us are
13:32
under
13:33
him But not a single one of us sitting
13:36
in this church can do it alone It takes
13:39
all of
13:41
us Jesus said "Wherever two or three are
13:43
gathered together in my name there am I
13:45
in the midst of you." He said "A
13:47
three-fold cord cannot be easily
13:49
broken." When the church is in unison
13:52
pulling together all going the same
13:55
direction the church overcomes The
13:59
church has victory
14:03
If you ever see one of these movies
14:06
where they show where the lines in a
14:09
military action are broken you have all
14:12
these I like movies that's got knights
14:14
in them I thought that was pretty cool
14:16
that their armor and their swords and
14:18
all that kind of stuff I always liked it
14:20
when I was a kid But you would see what
14:22
would happen if the lion got
14:24
broke When that line got broke everybody
14:29
scattered But when they held the
14:32
line and they stood against the
14:36
tyranny they overcame the enemy that was
14:39
coming against
14:41
them And we
14:44
as the
14:46
church have to realize we have to do the
14:49
same
14:49
thing there There is no way not to The
14:53
enemy would love and I mean love to see
14:56
this church die
15:03
And we can't let
15:05
it We have to say "No not
15:08
today No not tonight I refuse to allow
15:12
this church to be killed because we
15:16
still have people to reach and we still
15:18
have people to minister
15:22
to The harvest is
15:24
ripe The workers are few Look around you
15:30
This is what God's going to use to build
15:32
this
15:39
church And so I want to remind you as
15:42
we're getting ready to go into Memorial
15:44
Day and you're going to have this
15:47
week ask God a
15:49
question Ask him "What can I
15:53
do how can I serve
15:58
help me to keep my focus on the things
16:00
you called me to
16:02
do so that I can help somebody
16:08
too We all have
16:12
ministry Your ministry is your ministry
16:14
My ministry is my ministry But all those
16:16
ministries work together They go hand in
16:18
hand for one purpose One purpose
16:22
only To reach the lost
16:27
to protect them just like the soldiers
16:29
protect
16:32
us And if we lose that focus and when
16:36
the if the focus
16:39
shifts we begin to lose
16:46
So I want to encourage
16:48
you take this
16:52
week ask God what do you want me to
16:56
do how can I
17:00
serve tell me how to reach
17:04
somebody Give me the
17:06
courage Cuz it takes courage Anyone
17:09
tells you that being a Christian is easy
17:11
thing is lying to you to your face It's
17:15
not Being a Christian is the hardest
17:17
thing in the world because you have to
17:18
take a stand against what's wrong for
17:21
what's right And I'm not saying what's I
17:23
mean what's right God's word You have to
17:26
take a stand for what's right God's
17:31
word So if you're a Christian you're a
17:35
warrior And remember that just like
17:38
those soldiers put that uniform on and
17:41
go to protect this country Paul said
17:44
"Put on the whole armor of God." That
17:45
makes you a soldier too with just as
17:48
much responsibility as anybody
17:51
else So with that I'm going to wind it
17:53
up I'm going to ask you guys to think
17:57
about
17:59
it and ask God "How can I do more what
18:03
do you want me to do
18:06
how can I reach the unreachable how can
18:09
I teach the unreachable how can I bring
18:12
those that are lost and dying but into
18:16
the light to receive everything they
18:19
need from
18:22
you and pursue
18:26
it everybody stand
18:31
Heavenly Father we just thank you and
18:33
praise you
