Prince Harry & Elton John Lose Case Against Daily Mail Publisher
Jul 8, 2026
Prince Harry has lost his lawsuit against the publishers of the Daily Mail over alleged unlawful information gathering.
Harry, who lives in California, joined six high-profile figures in the 2022 legal action against Associated Newspapers.
The other claimants included Elton John, David Furnish, Elizabeth Hurley, Sadie Frost, campaigner Doreen Lawrence, and former politician Sir Simon Hughes.
The lawsuit claimed that journalists hacked phones, tapped landlines, and bugged homes and cars. The Daily Mail's publisher, Associated Newspapers, has denied all of the allegations.
Mr Justice Nicklin ruled that the claimants failed to prove their case. He said unlawful sourcing could not be assumed if lawful alternatives remained realistic.
The 11-week trial took place earlier this year. Harry and the other claimants could now face legal costs of up to £50 million ($67 million).
In a joint statement, Prince Harry and Lawrence described the ruling as a "complete and obvious whitewash, but sadly not altogether unexpected."
