Prototype earbuds with really good ANC

Dave Taylor here, and I'm checking out these. These are the Acuity Serena, super ANC wireless earbuds

And these are just prototypes. They're not actually shipping yet, but they sent me an early pair, which is pretty nice

They're really nice earbuds. Now, frequency response 5 Hertz to 21,000 Hertz with greater than 100 decibel sound pressure level

They support AAC and SBC, which means they don't support APTX, but that is something you might or might not worry about

It's okay. They have good ANC. I've got to say, really good ANC

So they have both regular ANC or active noise cancellation mode, and they have what they call super ANC

and the regular ANC gives you a 25 decibel reduction in ambient and background noise, which is good

And then the super ANC jumps it up to 45 decibels. So it's really putting in some processing power there to really get rid of background noise

And I did my standard test of standing in front of a floor fan with these on high ANC

and I could not hear the floor fan at all because of the music

and I didn't have it turned up very loud. And in fact, one of the things that they point out, which is absolutely true, is with good A and C, you don't have to turn the volume up so much, so it's really better for your hearing

If you're used to having earbuds or headphones or music where you just jam it super high so that you can cover up all those background noises, it's not good for your hearing and probably bothers your neighbors

So, really good alternative. And switching between A is super easy because on each of the earbuds and here a close so you can see the surface the surface is actually a touchpad So a triple tap on the left ear lets you step through the three ANC modes of regular ANC

super ANC, and hear-through, which is where you can actually still be listening to music if you're so inclined

but you can actually hear a lot more of the ambient noise around you

so you can have a conversation with someone. It's kind of nice to have a conversation with background music

that they don't know about. Now, it does noise and echo cancellation and suppression for voice, too

I'll give you a demo of that in just a minute. And each earbud, these are kind of big for this device

They have seven hours of battery life, and it's a four times charge in the case

It's a pretty big case, too, but they've really focused on battery life and ANC

So you put these units in, and you get a little tiny light indicating what its battery status

is. And obviously I put them both in and close it up. Super easy to work with. USBC for charging

hours of playback. And yes, you can listen with one while you put the other one into charge

Now let talk about playback and I listen to some old classic Thelonious Monk Jazz and oh my gosh it sounds really good the music reproduction is very impressive it a big full sound very accurate and precise and I would say the sound stage
