So I got two cameras here. They're kind of the same, but also kind of different
0:04
It's the Insta360 GO Ultra and the GoPro Hero 13 Black. I'm going to carry both of them with me for a day, a couple different activities
0:12
in order to see what each one of them can do, how they're the same, and how they're different
0:16
We're in an unusual environment, obviously, but many environments have unique mounting points
0:22
like this bar. Look how we can stick the magnet right onto it. I mean, I don't know if I'm going
0:26
to shoot. We're going to find a spot to mount it that I'm not going to hit, But obviously we can't just slap the GoPro onto something metallic as quickly and easily to get that creative shot
0:41
There's me talking, Mo's showing the screen. You can monitor and frame your shot without even having the camera near you
0:48
And in this case, when he's got it mounted like that, how much quicker is it for him to just pop it out of the mounted portion
0:54
Because look, your thing remains mounted. So you just pop this out with a click, slap it somewhere else for a creative angle
1:00
and then slap it back in when you're ready to continue on from your mounted position
1:04
That could be anywhere, and then boom, slap it out, get the shot, slap it back
1:09
Am I right, Jack? Exactly. So we're just trying to set something up here
1:15
This is Jack's. This is actually Jack's obstacle course. So I'm going to go between these tires and then underneath those two stick obstacles
1:23
Try to pass it off of that passer and then one time it
1:38
Yeah First try? You're not going to believe this is the first try
1:47
He said crossbar. Give me the microphone. This is why you need durable cameras
1:56
Jack said crossbar I said that tight for the crossbar Now you have to hit the crossbar That very tight for the crossbar
2:13
What did we do, Mo? What did we hit? Crossbar. I mean, the GoPro looks yellow
2:25
Like, more yellow? or warm. But... This is a pretty cool shot
2:31
Oh, yeah. Yeah, this is better. The jacket, the highlights. Sky here is interesting
2:38
The sky has color. You got some water. Instead, like, no color at all on the GoPro
2:45
Okay, both cameras set to wide and 4K 60. This is also a stabilization test
2:56
Honestly, for stabilization, they're both impressive. This amazes me that we can do this
3:06
You need to crop. It crops the image so then the width of the initial image comes into play
3:10
Without any external gear, like no gimbal, nothing, you can make a shot like this
3:14
That's crazy. With a little bit of crop, a little bit of software, and you are just on rails
3:21
Okay. Now I'm running. Yeah, like this is only one variable here. This is an audio test
3:26
We got a little bit of wind, and we are listening to the Insta360 Go Ultra, is what the audio sounds like
3:34
Now let's switch over to the GoPro. Well, that's a big one
3:38
Hero 13 Black. So much more muffled on this. So you tell me which one sounds better
3:46
What do you mean you tell me? You know damn well which one sounds better. The GoPro. It's a lot of
3:59
Trail running is harder than just road running By a lot That where I noticed the biggest difference The audio that we recording here is through the Ultra
4:10
It's not through the camera that is pointing at me right now. So whatever you're listening to is coming through here
4:15
because it's essentially like wearing a lap. You don't even think about it. You kind of forget that you're wearing it
4:19
Wow, look at the stabilization on that, eh? I mean, this is some wild stuff, but I am the gimbal
4:24
Having a separate module that I can just pick up and check out what I see, I can frame my shot
4:29
and also have the confidence that I'm rolling. Like I can see that I'm recording
4:33
I can look at the length of the clip. Oh, here's indoor. So the green in that wreath
4:41
is almost like, just looks like black on the GoPro. It's a lot darker and some of that color
4:48
is almost completely lost. And then color temperature, which is impacting anything that's white
4:54
I mean, in this example here, like color of this countertop or this table and the container and the napkin
4:59
And yeah. Why you gotta make me hungry like that, though? Damn, dude
5:08
Well, that's the biggest difference. Low light. Like, very low light. Like, I'm talking dark
5:14
Like, dark. It's dark out. And I'm not just talking, like, where the subject is sitting in the driver's seat
5:20
But in the parking lot. If you look to the left-hand side of each frame
5:23
And you can tell there's a little bit more available light there. Or the signage. The buildings
5:28
We can do V5. It's not even usable. The frame on the right is not usable now
5:35
Could you in post play with it? Yeah. I mean, you can always play with things in post
5:40
but when it comes to using an action camera or a small portable camera like this
5:45
you're probably trying to stay out of correction in post as much as possible
5:49
just to streamline your workflow. Like, we've got a much wider image on the 360 versus the GoPro
5:55
You're shooting them in the same mode, right? GoPro calls it hyper-wide. Right
6:00
And Insta calls it action which is both of their widest Yeah okay so this is the widest setting for either of the two cameras see there going to be some distortion regardless but you can evaluate the difference in
6:12
distortion here it's weird because it's the insta360 is is wider but it has less distortion
6:19
look at this wall right here we got an almost straight line here and then we've got this
6:23
bowing and the other thing that happens as things move to the center part of the frame
6:27
they tend to look better than on the edges. When you have more to work with
6:32
what you end up with in the center tends to be more usable. Having that extra width is helpful
6:38
I mean, the distortion difference here is, again, like, significant. Like, this wall is like, Jesus
6:46
Yeah, I mean, this is the biggest difference. If this matters to you at all, if you plan on shooting at night in low light
6:52
low light availability situations, I mean, the footage kind of speaks for itself
6:57
That's your biggest gap. I mean, I could kind of pick it up in some of these more dim scenes from the earlier portion outdoors
7:04
But as that sun begins to fade, then you notice it a lot more
7:08
And so there's a couple things at play. Obviously, there's the pure video mode in the first place, but then there's also the larger sensor
7:14
Along with the low light, the audio difference is significant. Just like look at the location of the microphone
7:20
Like it's right there front and center. It's a relatively big grill on top of a capsule
7:24
Extremely portable package. engine. This portion can go underwater up to 33 feet, but it also opens you up to a variety of
7:31
other mounting possibilities like we did on the net where we put it on the crossbar
