Will coasting in Neutral save your gas? NO! And here’s why…
Sep 17, 2024
A lot of drivers are absolutely sure that it’s a great idea to shift from Drive to Neutral when coasting. They believe that this way they save fuel, let the transmission live longer and overall improve the efficiency of their vehicles.
But this is a myth that you shouldn’t believe. All these shifting movements don’t prolong the life of your transmission, to say the least. They actually reduce the longevity of the torque converter or the clutch pack by engaging it when the car is still in movement. This is quite stressful for the transmission.
But the biggest disappointment comes when you look at the fuel consumption. Your gas mileage will actually get worse if you cost in Neutral. And in this short video, I will tell you why this happens.
