I'm
0:02
always as honest as I can be yep that's
0:06
cuz sometimes the truth hurts and I'm
0:08
not into hurting people but I'm as
0:10
honest as I can
0:12
be but I'll tell the truth here mhm I
0:16
don't like a lot of shows on television
0:18
yep you say it that's true for the most
0:21
part television sucks I I just don't
0:24
like a lot of shows I find myself at
0:26
home I watch a lot of sports I watch a
0:30
lot of repeats of shows I can probably
0:32
name every single episode of The Fresh
0:35
Prince of
0:36
Bel Martin and Everybody Hates Chris
0:39
those are like my favorite shows in the
0:41
world so I find myself watching a lot of
0:43
repeats it's hard to get me I've very
0:46
own Mike Muse can attest to this to
0:48
watch a new show it's hard it's just
0:50
like ah okay I was cool I watch Seinfeld
0:52
too I watch that a lot classic um but
0:56
it's hard for me to get into these new
0:57
shows I don't know why maybe because the
0:59
way the industry is now you get into
1:01
something and then by season three or
1:02
four it's gone it's over and it's like
1:04
damn I just wasted like 18 episodes in
1:07
my life on something and now it's out of
1:09
my life but then this thing comes along
1:13
called Abbot
1:15
Elementary my goodness I don't know how
1:19
I stumbled across it I don't know if it
1:22
was the imagery or something about it
1:25
that spoke to my heart and spirit but it
1:27
put me in that place that I grew up as a
1:30
kid when we would run home to watch
1:32
television to catch every episode it put
1:35
me in the mind frame when I would come
1:37
home as a young adult I gotta watch
1:39
Martin tonight I gotta watch Martin
1:42
tonight I got to check it out that's
1:44
what this put me in the mind frame of so
1:48
when I got invested in this show I would
1:51
go around y'all watching Abbot
1:53
Elementary where you been what why y'all
1:56
a tell me nobody told me about this sh I
1:59
love it I love it young old older than
2:04
old younger than young everybody seems
2:06
to enjoy this show man and I think the
2:09
thing about it is when I saw you on this
2:13
show I was rooting for the
2:16
show I was rooting for this show because
2:20
I wanted it to win cuz I want you to win
2:24
and when I found out the story about
2:25
quenta and then I saw the legend the
2:28
icon Miss Cher Le Ralph who every time I
2:31
say her name we just got to give her a
2:33
round of applause and the camaraderie
2:36
and everything I said they got one they
2:39
got one they got one welcome him back to
2:41
the show cuz we got one we got him here
2:44
citizen the Sway in the Morning the one
2:46
the only Tyler James
2:49
Williams TJ W thank you thank you thank
2:53
you that's like all true I mean forget
2:56
an intro that's that's love man that's
2:59
that it like it it hits differently um
3:02
because that's ultimately all you ever
3:03
really want to do you want to make
3:05
something that people can get excited
3:07
about that they can become like part of
3:09
their lives and their world and like
3:12
that's the beautiful thing about this
3:14
show for me is watching that happen
3:16
again um and coming into people's living
3:18
rooms and and becoming a part of their
3:20
routines and their lives and that's the
3:23
beautiful thing about TV when it's done
3:24
well um and you know I got nothing but
3:28
love for this room everybody in this
3:30
room man I always feel feel like immense
3:34
amounts of Love here so that it really
3:35
means the most what no just all truth
3:39
like I said I find myself when I'm
3:41
watching this show and just being
3:43
blessed let me say this to have
3:45
experience and television and film I'm
3:47
like how many times did they do this
3:49
take because I would break character
3:52
every five minutes like y if I'm home
3:56
watching this and busting out laughing
3:58
how do y'all stay in char character on
4:00
set we
4:02
don't we don't that's the thing it's
4:04
it's so hard man there's like there are
4:08
takes where or just whole scenes I'm
4:10
like I don't even know what we're going
4:11
to be able to keep here because we're
4:13
all fans of the show and like I don't I
4:16
particularly I don't watch the show when
4:18
it's done like I I don't really watch
4:20
the edits or what you guys end up seeing
4:21
I watch the show when we're shooting it
4:24
and
4:25
that's it's just so good and that's not
4:29
not everybody else it's so good and
4:32
people are so funny um that's how I know
4:35
there's something there is that we can
4:37
barely make it through a take that's how
4:40
I like there's C there's a few episod
4:42
stuff that we just shot on last Friday
4:45
that like it's it's going to tear your
4:47
mouth out it is it's going to tear your
4:49
mouth out it's it's we couldn't keep it
4:52
together and that's what I think is so
4:54
fun about it is when you do a show
4:55
that's like kind of chuckle funny you
4:57
can feel it when you do a show that's
5:00
like I can't keep myself together you
5:03
get excited about what the audience is
5:04
going to see yeah man I love it Tracy is
5:07
there a reason Tyler that um you prefer
5:10
watching it while you're filming versus
5:13
when the entire product is
5:16
complete I think I'm too critical of the
5:19
final product yeah I think I'm way too
5:21
critical of the final product
5:22
particularly my stuff um I can't really
5:25
enjoy it um when doing it on the day
5:29
also so there's a whole another show
5:31
that you guys don't see that's the
5:33
privilege that I get to have I get to
5:34
see that other show that isn't going to
5:37
make it because of time or it gets left
5:40
on editing room floor that's my show
5:42
that's the show that like I get to hold
5:44
on to and keep near and dear and like
5:46
you know people use memes and stuff all
5:48
over the place and there's stuff that we
5:50
just have from the edit that we can send
5:51
to each other um that's to be the
5:54
beautiful part of doing the show um I
5:56
have a separate show I get a chance to
5:58
watch and participate in wow man thank
6:00
you for sharing that with us too yeah no
6:02
it's it's it's a really at some point
6:05
you know at some point you should come
6:08
by we would love to you should stop by
6:12
we would love to you guys stop we're
6:14
shooting now um and we just uh okay
6:17
let's leave work yeah let's go um but we
6:19
just got picked up for season 4 so yeah
6:21
come on just got picked up for SE
6:23
congratulations um so yeah sometime in
6:26
the summer stop by it would be great no
6:27
we will we actually we shoot out La once
6:30
every other month or something like that
6:32
for the week we would love to just to
6:36
watch you guys and the magic that that
6:38
happens we would love it thank you yeah
6:42
bring the whole Sway in the Morning
6:43
everybody have a good time Mike mes yeah
6:46
I have a question for your character for
6:49
me on television is so important and I
6:51
think it serves such an important role
6:52
uh it's rare we get a chance to see that
6:54
on television and to see uh black man
6:57
with so much range of a story line
6:59
I'm just curious um as you were thinking
7:02
about this character for you like who
7:04
did you think about when you were
7:06
constructing um who your character is um
7:10
the men in my family my dad my
7:13
grandfathers my uncles they were fully
7:17
fleshed out human beings that's what I I
7:20
love about them so much um and the
7:24
conflicts that they have in their lives
7:27
aren't necessarily the things that you
7:28
used to see on TV they're just trying to
7:31
show up and be good men in the places
7:34
that they have to be and that's what
7:36
when I approach Gregory was the first
7:38
thing on my mind this isn't a guy who is
7:41
trying to shuck his responsibilities
7:43
this isn't somebody who's um got your
7:46
typical sitcom struggles his struggles
7:48
are just trying to exist in this space
7:50
and do the best that he can and I wanted
7:52
to bring the humanity of my father and
7:55
my grandfather's and my uncles to
7:58
network television mhm and that's that
8:01
was really important from the jump and
8:02
when me and Quin talked about it for the
8:03
first time she had the exact same
8:05
feeling that was the thing that let me
8:06
know that we had something here we were
8:09
on the same page about it immediately
8:11
yeah it's R because we don't get a
8:12
chance to see black men playing
8:14
characters where seeking Perfection yes
8:16
right and seeking excellence and I think
8:18
that is such a dynamic that black men
8:19
have to wrestle with inside of corporate
8:21
America and so to see your character
8:23
Gregory have to reconcile Perfection uh
8:26
and to reconcile wanting more and in
8:28
particular we don't see black men in
8:30
education space as one as a teacher but
8:32
then two wanted to become a
8:34
superintendent or principal
8:36
administrator I say administrator and
8:37
then also two third balancing out with
8:39
gardening like we don't even see there's
8:41
so many black men that I know who
8:44
Garden many black men that know that
8:46
tend to flowers and and and
8:48
prw plants and to see that is so fleshed
8:52
out it's just so special about that if
8:54
you can talk a little bit about that
8:57
feeling of when you're thinking about
8:58
Gregory how to reconcile of like seeking
9:01
Perfection and stepping up to home plate
9:04
expecting to hit a grand
9:06
slam I think we're always in a good
9:09
place when we can show black men caring
9:12
about things
9:13
deeply um the reason why he seeks
9:16
Perfection is because he deeply cares
9:20
about not only the kids in his life but
9:24
he's fully aware and we kind of explored
9:26
that a little bit in season one of what
9:27
he represents to them this may be one of
9:29
the only times they see somebody in his
9:32
position um I also feel like the what
9:36
what what is I guess you could say
9:38
relatable in this is that every black
9:41
man walking on the face of the Earth
9:42
feels this high standard that he has to
9:45
meet um we we've we've always kind of
9:49
had that we have to do twice as much
9:51
work to get half as far um but we don't
9:54
necessarily always
9:57
see the emotional toll that that takes
10:00
we see the Triumph and I think the the
10:03
Brilliance in Abbott is not the Triumph
10:04
of him getting to the principal position
10:07
it's watching him grapple with the
10:09
emotions and the weight of that he has
10:11
several moments when he cracks and those
10:12
are the things in the episodes that I
10:14
love the most is like we have to show
10:16
what this pressure does we have to show
10:18
how he cracks and then he comes back
10:21
that's the that's the Brilliance of the
10:24
way Quinta in the writers room approach
10:26
Gregory is they don't want him always to
10:29
just win because that sets up an
10:31
unrealistic standard I feel like for
10:33
people you need to be able to see these
10:35
moments of failure or it didn't quite go
10:37
the way you thought or getting to that
10:39
position that you want to be in is going
10:40
to take longer than you thought but
10:42
there's Beauty in the moment um and
10:45
those are the things that I cherish the
10:47
most and hopefully you know make a
10:49
difference over
10:50
time man I love it I love it I love it
10:53
Tyler James Williams is here citizens
10:55
888 742 3345 you want to to talk to him
11:00
you can up next I'm going to find out
11:02
what made him uh come back to New York
11:04
yeah yeah he lives here now settle down
11:07
so not only can we go to Cali then we
11:09
just might crash the PAAD for some food
11:10
too why not stop by we always have a
11:13
little something we always got a little
11:14
something he's here y'all let's talk to
11:16
him you can watch him every single week
11:18
on Abbott Elementary Wednesdays tonight
11:21
9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time having
11:23
conversations we're opening up the phone
11:25
lines now 888 742 3345 while the music
11:28
was playing I was sitting here thinking
11:30
about Quin Brunson who I've we've never
11:33
met Mike have no we not yet she hasn't
11:35
been a guest on this show to experience
11:38
I've met her not for my show but I've
11:39
met her met her yeah and thinking about
11:41
her thinking about Shonda ryes um shout
11:45
out to Shonda who's a citizen of SW
11:47
morning we support her shows I don't you
11:49
know um uh uh Issa Ray shout out to her
11:53
as well everything she was doing Tyler
11:55
Perry shout out to what Tyler Perry has
11:57
been able to do in his industry in terms
12:00
of shows and US supporting um his shows
12:03
as well Ava Ava duven and and shout out
12:07
to what she's doing I love that and I
12:10
and I'm hoping Tyler was from one Tyler
12:12
you know to the other switch over um to
12:15
you um you know because I don't want to
12:17
leave anyone out it's very important
12:19
when I mention shows that I I grew up
12:21
watching and shows that I love to see
12:24
that you know there's a new wave and
12:25
there's a new thing now and if we try to
12:27
list every single show be here all day
12:30
but I want to recognize these people who
12:32
are putting in this work for television
12:34
for us that we run home and watch these
12:36
shows is it a plan of yours at some
12:38
point one day to possibly go into that
12:41
you producing shows and creating shows
12:44
for other folks and young actors like
12:45
yourself to be able to have a platform
12:48
yeah um definitely at some point you
12:51
know um and to tell you the truth the
12:53
person who really keyed me on to it was
12:56
Quinta we would be talking about the
12:59
show and things that were happening as
13:00
it was taking off because I'd had you
13:02
know success in television before I
13:04
could kind of tell when things were
13:06
happening and predict what was happening
13:07
next and from these conversations we
13:09
were having she was like yo you talk
13:11
like a producer and I was like I didn't
13:13
even realize that that's what I'm doing
13:14
this is just what I've been in for so
13:16
long um so yeah it's it's it's coming at
13:19
some point I think I've built up a
13:21
wealth of knowledge this is like lot
13:23
people don't realize it's been 20 years
13:25
since Everybody Hates Chris premieres
13:27
Chow it's been that was 2004 this is a
13:31
big year for 20 year anniversary my God
13:34
so I've got 20 years of TV Tyler you
13:37
just made all of us go really yeah it's
13:40
been 20 years that's amazing bro wow
13:42
congratulations congratulations that
13:45
that knoow and that knowledge I do want
13:47
to give back and kind of put my hands on
13:49
something wow I don't think I was even
13:51
born
13:52
yet my God you was Bor to smoking
13:55
cigarettes
13:57
like get your get hell out of here that
14:01
right before we cut into the music
14:02
before Tracy jumps in um back to New
14:05
York you are so hell yeah man welcome
14:08
back oh it's so good I've been trying to
14:10
get back home for the longest um so
14:12
that's 20 years ago I did a show about
14:15
New York that took me to La and I never
14:19
really had a plan to go to La I was
14:21
always going to be a New York actor I
14:22
was just going to stay here and great
14:23
but Everybody Hates Chris Shout out
14:24
there um and ever since then I've been
14:26
trying to get back um and then it was
14:30
during the the strike of this year I was
14:32
just like now's my time I'm coming back
14:34
I'm done um so Abbot still shoots there
14:38
when I'm there that's what I'm doing but
14:39
when I'm not I have a sense of normaly
14:41
here which is nice my life have yes
14:45
family my life doesn't have to revolve
14:46
around the industry yes it's it's I can
14:48
have a regular life here so it's so good
14:51
to be back you deserve that you deserve
14:53
Joy that's the one thing we've been
14:55
repeating here constantly you have to
14:57
cuz you have to have to if you don't
14:59
tell yourself that you'll forget yep you
15:01
deserve Joy courtesy and comment Tracy
15:03
thinking about your younger years with
15:05
um the 20-y year aniversary of Everybody
15:07
Hates Chris it reminded me that you
15:09
actually have two younger brothers who
15:11
have the same initials as you and
15:14
they're both actors as well so one is
15:17
there a deeper meaning between the
15:19
tjw and then also do you guys like um
15:23
help each other hone your acting skills
15:25
so my mother when she named us she
15:28
wanted us to always be connected that
15:31
was the thing that was her goal she was
15:33
like I want you to always no matter what
15:36
happens be connected and take care of
15:37
each other um beautiful and it's really
15:41
developed more as we've gotten older to
15:43
the point where now we all live together
15:47
yeah it's yeah we all choose to to live
15:50
together on both coasts and we just kind
15:52
of like bounce back and forth um and
15:55
yeah we like hone everything every every
15:58
cre cretive decision that we make we run
16:00
by each other um there's nothing that
16:02
you'll see or hear that I didn't kind of
16:04
talk out with them first um to get their
16:07
opinion on because they we have a really
16:09
high standard and a high bar for
16:11
everything um but they you know I had my
16:14
first show at 12 my middle brother had
16:15
his first show at 12 and sold to the
16:17
baby boy um so there's an understanding
16:21
that we have hell of each other's
16:23
experience that nobody else will ever
16:24
have that is some Divine secr like what
16:28
is it really is wow cuz it's I don't
16:31
know for all the citizens out there I
16:33
mean it is not easy to get a job in this
16:37
industry no not even even though we
16:39
watch television we were just talking
16:41
about this at lunch you know a
16:43
commercial is hard to get a national
16:46
network commercial the chances are
16:48
astronomical are astronomical not the
16:51
kind of they just give to celebrities
16:53
I'm talking about a real audition
16:56
commercial you go in and it's tough yeah
16:59
it's tough so for all three siblings to
17:02
have this beautiful gift you just know
17:05
God is real and it's that's amazing for
17:07
sure it's something that like to me it's
17:10
kind of like the the teaching profession
17:11
in the same way you got to be called to
17:13
it you have to be called to because if
17:14
not you're not going to be able to last
17:16
not just from the perspective of the
17:18
talent of the thing but it's difficult
17:22
to go through those periods of time when
17:23
there's not stuff or when you're reading
17:25
against a hundred people and you have to
17:27
be the one reading that they pick for
17:29
Everybody Hates Chris they read kids on
17:32
both
17:33
coasts both coasts um two years in a row
17:37
is the thing so like they the first year
17:40
I went I was on my way to the audition
17:42
and they said go home we found whoever
17:43
it is going to be and then they came
17:44
back a year later still looking so
17:48
getting one job the chances are out of
17:52
this world if you're not called to it
17:55
you're never going to be able to push
17:56
through that you have to be able able to
17:58
push through that time and and and
18:00
looking at other people and knowing that
18:01
what's for me is for me that is such
18:06
brilliant I don't even want to call it
18:08
advice that those experiences I'm so
18:11
glad that you shared that because people
18:14
need to hear that it is it is a daunting
18:17
task to go audition because oh my God
18:19
you you can feel like you nailed it like
18:22
you can walk out of the room there's
18:24
still like pee dripping out down your
18:26
leg cuz you're like I know I got this
18:28
baby they about to call me I'm about to
18:30
pay my rent for 3 years straight right
18:33
and you had and just like he said Tyler
18:35
they go home we found somebody yeah you
18:38
know and sometimes has nothing to do
18:40
with anything that you did the amount of
18:42
times where even for like Abbott there
18:45
will be tapes that come in from people
18:47
and it boils down to not even whether or
18:49
not the read was good the read was great
18:51
you hit every moment it was everything
18:53
that we needed but there's something
18:55
that just doesn't quite fit the way that
18:58
we need it to whether it be a look or
19:00
sometimes it even boils down to height
19:03
like just from Quint size just a frame
19:06
two people in the same camera angle wow
19:09
you can't be but for so tall so it boils
19:12
down to something like that sometimes
19:14
and people take it personally but you
19:16
shouldn't you just keep going and
19:18
there's no one can take the role that
19:20
was built for you it's not possible I
19:23
don't care what it is when you see
19:25
somebody read and that moment and that
19:27
spark happen I've seen it happen
19:29
multiple times there's not a person on
19:31
this Earth that can do that but you but
19:33
if you're not called to it it'll break
19:36
you down over
19:38
time yes amen citizens that's listening
19:41
if as an artist however you want to
19:44
Define yourself take that with you right
19:47
there cuz that is a gem rewind this 50
19:50
million times because you need to hear
19:52
that he you're absolutely spot on Mike
19:55
mes I mean that was a word a word and I
19:58
think that goes back for people who may
20:00
not be interested in acting but if
20:01
you're looking for a corporate job we're
20:03
in the season right now where college or
20:05
high school students are receiving
20:07
acceptance letters or rejection letters
20:08
and I think that's important takeway
20:10
that even if you didn't get into the
20:11
school of your choice parent listening
20:13
to us right now who may have a child is
20:14
not getting into school their choice
20:16
know that what is for your child will be
20:17
for your child right and what's for you
20:19
be for for you I'm curious though with
20:21
that being said then talk to us about
20:22
Abbot in the moment you got called to do
20:25
Abbot right because I would think on
20:27
paper if I was to see something even
20:29
before it came out I was like I don't
20:30
know how a show about a school is going
20:33
to work out right and so I'm just
20:35
curious for you
20:37
so I don't get even the first
20:40
conversation about Abbot until we're in
20:42
the middle of the pandemic so I'm at
20:45
home locked down um and Quinta shoots me
20:49
a DM because she had lived down the
20:51
block for me at the time it was like Hey
20:53
I have this idea for a show I'm going to
20:54
go pitch and I want to put your name in
20:56
it if you're cool with that and I'm like
20:58
yeah sure let's see what happens um I
21:01
was looking at other shows at the time
21:03
there was one of which is on currently
21:06
and is very successful
21:09
um but again what's for you there was
21:12
something about one she had built
21:15
Gregory around me and that was unique
21:18
for me I was like okay there's something
21:21
here but then there was that like
21:23
feeling of I know every now and then you
21:25
look at somebody you're like I feel like
21:27
you got something I feel like there's
21:29
something in you to give and that's how
21:31
I felt about her was like I feel like
21:33
you're about to pop crazy and I can't
21:36
put my finger on why I can't even build
21:40
the evidence or the argument for it but
21:42
I know that whatever it is you're about
21:43
to do is going to take off
21:46
and it was one of the biggest blessings
21:49
of my life because coming out of the
21:51
pandemic there were a lot of actors
21:52
looking for jobs and trying to figure
21:53
out what their next move was and I
21:55
wasn't even aware that during it all
21:58
somebody was building something for me
22:00
specifically in the time where there was
22:02
the most uncertainty in the world there
22:05
was somebody sitting somewhere thinking
22:08
I have something for this person right
22:09
here and it would it came from a place
22:12
that nobody would have expected
22:15
um that that gives me Faith going down
22:18
the line forever if ever I'm in a place
22:21
where I don't know what's supposed to be
22:22
or what's supposed to happen somewhere
22:25
somebody is working on the thing that
22:27
you need and you may not even be aware
22:30
of who they are um that that was the
22:33
most serendipitous experience I think
22:36
I've ever had in my life Beau yeah God
22:40
did God did God did it man listen we got
22:44
Kev on the line Kev you've been holding
22:45
forever brother thank you so much
22:47
calling in from Charlotte how you doing
22:48
say what up to Tyler he's here Kev yo yo
22:51
yo yo yo what's up good morning
22:53
everybody what's up what's happening man
22:56
what's happening cooling cooling man I
22:57
appreciate y taking the time and taking
22:59
the call um I want to say I am a black
23:03
man in education and when I first saw
23:07
Abbot Elementary like the first episode
23:10
like the first season bro I saw myself I
23:14
don't know if you were in like the first
23:15
early early episodes but like the first
23:17
one or two but I know when I saw you I'm
23:19
like bro there I go there I
23:21
go like literally literally because you
23:25
dressed apart you act AP part and I'm
23:28
going say something that I don't think
23:29
I've heard from people um with black men
23:32
in
23:33
education they want us in the building
23:36
but they don't want what comes with us
23:38
if that makes sense to y'all and when
23:40
you said you mimicked your your your
23:42
family and things like that and you
23:45
projected that into your character it's
23:47
like this is not me this is a lot of
23:49
things that come with me you know what I
23:52
mean and it made sense inside the school
23:55
and when I saw you bro like I said was
23:58
like yo every week I got my wife
24:00
watching it I think I started putting
24:01
people on it but before it got to like
24:04
really really like talking about you
24:06
know like that water cooler conversation
24:08
but bro I saw you I saw myself and I
24:11
couldn't do nothing but cheese and um
24:13
also Mike uh I spoke to you a week ago
24:16
about um education and ask Mike and that
24:19
just shows how passionate I am about
24:22
education these days because it's
24:24
totally different from when we grew up
24:26
and that Abid element looks like old
24:28
school days it doesn't look like new
24:29
school days it looks like old school and
24:32
it just like I say it just mirrored what
24:34
I went through as a student in school in
24:37
the like to say 90s 2000s so yeah man
24:40
big up to you and even what you saying
24:42
now was prophetic bro yes it is
24:44
everything you're saying is what's
24:46
what's for you might not be for you but
24:48
what's for you will be for you and it
24:50
will fit it won't be tight it won't be
24:52
loose it won't be uncomfortable and bro
24:54
all of that I I love it I love it I love
24:57
love it I love it thankk you first off
25:00
thank you for the work that you do um
25:02
because doing Abbott has been an
25:04
education for me on the work that
25:06
teachers do and the unsung heroes that
25:08
they are and it's something that you
25:10
have to be called to and it's something
25:11
that nobody claps for you for and you
25:13
show up every day and you do it and it's
25:16
hard and it's not easy and you're
25:18
dealing with kids that aren't even yours
25:21
um thank you for doing that in the way
25:24
that you do it even in the midst of the
25:26
silence um and it is one of the greatest
25:29
honors of my career to be able to give
25:32
you something to look at and see
25:33
yourself in the
25:35
middle yeah hopefully we can continue to
25:37
do the show and I can continue to do
25:39
that but thank you for the work that you
25:42
choose to do every day you could do any
25:44
number of things I'm sure you sound like
25:46
a very intelligent brother but thank you
25:48
for choosing to do this because we need
25:51
you in this space there's not enough of
25:53
you in this space and I would love to
25:55
see that thank you man it's not like we
25:58
on the phone man I
26:00
app like not yeah right and thank you
26:04
Kevin but Tyler this is what we were
26:06
talking about with his role is cuz Kevin
26:08
called up last week and he's so
26:09
passionate about that the work that he
26:11
does and this what we were saying we a
26:12
conversation about appreciate that
26:14
important your character is and when I
26:16
watch the show I think about people like
26:17
Kevin yeah yeah that's so thank you
26:19
Kevin this is who this is for thank you
26:20
y got me cheesing listen it's a feeling
26:23
you're a citizen I love it I love s in
26:25
the so from cev to Kevin we got in PA
26:28
what's up Kevin what up Kevin hey what's
26:31
go hey what's going on Y how y'all doing
26:33
today doing great today say what up to
26:35
Tyler Tyler how you doing Tyler I just
26:38
want to thank you man you are
26:39
inspiration and uh sway this show for
26:41
sway man this is the realest show I've
26:43
ever heard so I want y'all to keep on
26:45
doing what you're doing man Tyler what
26:47
you have said is so true about you know
26:49
your character Gregory you know it's a
26:52
struggle out here being a black man you
26:53
know I'm in a city that's a 100,000 in
26:56
Eerie Pennsylvania and it's it's really
26:58
not going down like it's was going down
27:00
in bigger cities you know what I mean
27:01
right but it's it's a real it's a real
27:04
struggle and you showing how it's okay
27:06
for black men to feel all their emotions
27:10
how it's okay to fail how it's okay to
27:12
keep trying because you know you have to
27:14
fail some always to succeed and we don't
27:17
teach that it's part of the proc and
27:18
it's it's important for us to understand
27:21
that you know I teach a lot of Workforce
27:23
Development myself you know and I'm
27:25
trying to get a you know these families
27:26
into self- sustaining jobs that are
27:29
careers for their for their betterment
27:30
for their lives so we can stop poverty
27:32
man it's yeah it's bad out here in these
27:34
streets man it's so bad you choosing to
27:37
do good work we have to understand that
27:40
accepting and expecting failure you know
27:42
what I mean that's the key because once
27:45
we change our mindset to become more
27:47
positive that we can make it and we can
27:49
struggle and make it through that then
27:52
we understand that's part of the process
27:53
of growth yeah and that's part of the
27:56
plan and then as you said you God is
27:59
good all the time I thank God and give
28:00
him all the glory for even connecting
28:02
with y'all and hearing this message CU
28:04
this
28:17
reinspect generation because uh mean
28:20
we're all we got it's a circle man if if
28:24
if I can inspire you then you can
28:25
inspire me and then we keep going back
28:27
and forth I'm going to take these
28:29
stories and I'm going to remember them
28:30
when I go to work I'm going to remember
28:32
those who are choosing to do work that's
28:35
not necessarily glamorous so that
28:36
whenever I am stepping in front of a
28:38
camera and it is I don't get it messed
28:40
up and I don't get it twisted wow um so
28:44
thank you for what you do and for
28:45
sharing those words man and like I I
28:47
hope as you go through this process and
28:49
there's going to be struggles and ups
28:51
and downs that you just you keep heart
28:53
and you keep going yes you're right
28:55
failure is part of the process when
28:56
you're failing you're doing something
28:57
good to get into it so thank you man I
28:59
really appreciate that man God bless you
29:01
brother Kevin as well and you a citizen
29:03
way in the morning man wow wow man one
29:07
of them on one of them on there's a lot
29:09
of good energy today no said if you mind
29:13
sharing you said that I was going to say
29:15
he said that he shared that when he
29:16
walked in he said the energy in here and
29:19
um that's on purpose Tyler like I said
29:22
to you it's on purpose sway decided
29:25
purposely he wanted to make this safe
29:27
space and a welcoming space for artists
29:30
and and and and for people to come
29:31
through and share their stories and talk
29:33
about their purpose and and their craft
29:35
and what they've been chosen to do and
29:37
be protected by their feelings and their
29:39
thoughts in here so thank you for for
29:41
your compliment to us because we we we
29:44
choose to do that as well now thank you
29:46
for Contin I've come to this show since
29:49
I was in my teens wow
29:52
um and I've done a lot of press a lot of
29:55
places and talked about a lot of shows a
29:57
lot of places no room feels like this
29:59
one this one feels actually safe there
30:03
are other people who create the illusion
30:04
of it and there's a lot of especially in
30:06
the age of the internet of like people
30:08
trying to you can feel it they're trying
30:10
to bait you into something to create a
30:12
viral image or of
30:14
something this is an actual safe space
30:17
and I think when people listen to that
30:18
show this show they can feel that I feel
30:20
it when I walk in the room it's always
30:22
my stop when I'm coming through New York
30:24
I can't not um and that takes a lot of
30:29
fortitude to choose to do you could do
30:32
what everybody else does you choose not
30:34
to and I commend all of you including
30:36
Sway and I hope a man's feel better yes
30:39
snotty knows that's you know it's all
30:41
good um we all get it a little bit but I
30:44
commend y'all for making that choice
30:46
because not everybody always makes that
30:47
choice thank you and I can feel it thank
30:49
