UK: Thousands Fill Parliament Square As Tommy Robinson Rally Floods Central London.
May 20, 2026
London, United Kingdom - May 17, 2026 Tens of thousands of demonstrators gathered in Parliament Square on May 17, 2026, for the “Unite the Kingdom” rally organised by far-right activist Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon. Video filmed by X user Joanne Dennett from inside the crowd shows a packed square filled with waving Union Jack and St George’s Cross flags. Thick pink smoke from flares drifted through the area as people stood and sat on barriers and stone ledges beneath the bronze statue of Winston Churchill, with the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben visible behind them. According to Metropolitan Police estimates, around 50,000 to 60,000 people attended the event. The turnout was significantly lower than the 150,000 participants claimed at Robinson’s previous major rally in September 2025. The march started in Kingsway, moved through Whitehall, and ended in Parliament Square, where Robinson delivered speeches to supporters. During his address, he called on followers to prepare for a “Battle of Britain” and urged them to become politically active before the next general election, focusing on anti-immigration themes and criticism of the UK government. The rally unfolded during one of the largest policing operations in recent years, with approximately 4,000 officers deployed to keep the event separate from a rival pro-Palestine Nakba Day march. Despite heightened tensions throughout the day, there were no major clashes reported between the groups. Police confirmed that around 43 arrests were made, mainly linked to public order offences and hate crimes. The raw footage captured the atmosphere from the centre of one of the largest right-wing mobilisations seen in London in recent times.
