The participants carried Palestinian flags, banners, and placards while chanting slogans to demand an immediate end to the conflict. The rally joins a series of global demonstrations calling for international intervention and the protection of civilian lives in the region. Demonstration marks the 78th anniversary of the Nakba, which is described as the “Great Catastrophe” of 1948. More than 800,000 Palestinians were forcibly displaced during the events surrounding the establishment of Israel in 1948—a catastrophe Palestinians commemorate annually on May 15 as the Nakba.
