Located on the island of Djerba in southeastern Tunisia, the synagogue has resumed receiving foreign visitors under heightened security measures and an organized program. The annual visit is being held with limited participation. One of the organizers and former Tourism Minister Rene Trabelsi said around 200 participants, mainly from France, have attended this year’s event. He noted that accommodation was arranged for pilgrims, with two hotels allocated for visitors while others stayed independently on the island. Perez Trabelsi, head of the El Ghriba Synagogue Association, said participation this year ranged between 200 and 300 people. He added that the event began on Thursday and will conclude on Tuesday, with its main program taking place on Monday evening and Tuesday morning. The visit includes religious rituals such as lighting candles and praying inside the synagogue, which is considered one of the oldest Jewish places of worship in the world.
