The demonstration, organized following calls by several civil society organizations, began at Odenplan Square where protesters demanded an immediate end to what they described as Israeli war crimes in Gaza. Demonstrators carried Palestinian flags and banners reading “Stop the Zionist regime’s genocide in Palestine.” Jonathan Key, a representative of the Jewish Anti-Zionist Alliance supporting the rally, said the occupation of Palestine did not begin recently but dates back around 80 years. He also criticized the lack of public awareness surrounding the Nakba and argued that its history should be taught in schools alongside other major historical events. Palestinians commemorate May 15 as the Nakba, or “Great Catastrophe,” marking the displacement that followed Israel’s declaration of independence in 1948. According to Palestinian accounts, nearly 1 million Palestinians were forcibly displaced during the events, hundreds of villages and towns were destroyed, and thousands of Palestinians were killed.
