VARIOUS OF PEOPLE CELEBRATING RETURN OF ACTIVISTS WITH BANNERS AND FLAGSBARCELONA, SPAIN — MAY 23, 2026: Spanish activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla arrived in Barcelona on Saturday, May 23, days after being detained by Israeli forces in international waters. The Global Sumud humanitarian aid flotilla said Tuesday that all 50 vessels in its convoy had been seized by Israel. The Global Sumud Flotilla had been attempting to break the blockade on Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid to the enclave when it was intercepted by Israeli forces in international waters. The flotilla, carrying 428 people from 44 countries, departed Thursday from Marmaris, Türkiye, in an effort to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza Strip, which has been in place since 2007.
